Keep it somewhere it is less likely to be bumped. For extra protection, choose a display case that fits the model rather than assuming any LEGO case will accommodate it.
Set up the model and shelf
- Check the build: Confirm the model is fully assembled, then use an orientation its design supports. If a particular section repeatedly comes loose, consult that set’s building instructions or model-specific support rather than relying on a general display fix.
- Support the footprint: Use a level, stable surface deep and wide enough for the full base, including protruding parts. Leave clearance above the model as well.
- Reduce disturbance: Choose a spot where people are less likely to brush against or handle the model. No universal shelf method is established as a guarantee against a build coming apart, and the available LEGO guidance does not specify shelf load ratings.
Measure the model before choosing a display location. LEGO’s large-set display article illustrates the issue with the LEGO Icons NASA Artemis Space Launch System, which is 70 cm tall, and identifies shelving and glass showcases as options. Those are possibilities to assess for your set, not a guarantee that every shelf or showcase will fit or secure every model. LEGO’s guide to displaying large LEGO sets also includes fan suggestions; treat those as individual experience, not manufacturer testing.

Choose an open shelf or a case
Compare the available options by footprint and height, how much of the base they support, protection from dust and incidental contact, and how easily you can reach the model if it needs repositioning. There is no single best option for every build.

Check case dimensions before buying
LEGO’s Play and Display Case – Blue (5006157) has six gray baseplates, a transparent cover, and stated external dimensions of about 39 cm wide, 14 cm deep, and 19 cm high. LEGO describes it as protection from dust and damage, but those external measurements do not establish that a model will fit inside. Check the usable space and your model’s actual dimensions before choosing it. LEGO Play and Display Case – Blue.

Keep minifigure cases in their lane
LEGO’s 8-Minifigure Display Case – Red (5006151) holds up to eight figures on studded plates and can sit on a desk or shelf or be mounted on a wall. Its stated purpose is minifigure display, not housing a general full-size set. LEGO 8-Minifigure Display Case – Red.
Keep the display away from heat and direct sun
LEGO advises keeping stored bricks somewhere dry and away from heat sources. It cautions against direct sunlight and temperatures above 104°F (40°C), which may make bricks brittle or discolored over time. That guidance is specifically for stored bricks; applying it to a completed display model is a sensible care precaution, not a tested claim about a particular shelf or set.
