In OBS, add the video as a Media Source, enable Loop, and verify that its audio reaches the stream’s active mixer. Before broadcasting, test the same file and scene in a private or unlisted YouTube stream. Compare sync at the start, near the end, and immediately after the loop: a steady offset may be adjustable, but drift that grows over time or a jump at the loop point calls for diagnosing the file, source timing, or playback load.
Check the video file before setting up OBS
Play the original file from beginning to end in a local player. Listen and watch at the start, near the end, and across the transition from the final frame back to the first. If the file already has misaligned audio and video, an ending gap, or a discontinuity at that transition, enabling a loop in OBS will repeat the problem rather than repair it. OBS documents looping, but there is no single file-preparation recipe established to make every format loop seamlessly.

Set up a single-file loop in OBS
- In your scene’s Sources panel, choose + and add a Media Source. Give it a clear name.
- In the Media Source properties, select the local video file and enable Loop. OBS restarts the file when playback completes. For a playlist, OBS also supports VLC Video with its loop-playlist option; VLC must be installed. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Watch the audio mixer while the file plays. Confirm the source is not muted and that its audio is included in the mix sent to the stream. If you monitor audio, listen for the source there as well; monitoring alone does not confirm what viewers receive.
- Keep the file, scene, frame rate, encoder, and audio path the same as you intend to use on air. Changing these between the test and broadcast weakens the value of the test.
Test the full stream and identify the kind of sync error
Make a private or unlisted test using the actual file and planned setup. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream, then monitoring stream health and messages during the event. Check a local OBS recording and the received YouTube stream at the beginning, middle, end, and immediately after the next loop begins. The local recording helps separate a source or OBS issue from a problem visible only in the received stream.

| Audio is late or early by about the same amount throughout. | Whether the offset affects only the Media Source or every audio source. | Measure the offset, adjust the affected source’s sync timing in small increments, and repeat the full test. Avoid delaying all audio if only one source is out of sync. |
| The mismatch becomes larger as playback continues. | Media timestamps and encoding, decoder or CPU/GPU load, and consistency of the audio sample rate. | Investigate the source and playback path rather than applying an arbitrary fixed delay. No single correction value is established for every file and computer. |
| Sync is acceptable during playback but jumps at every loop. | The file’s ending and beginning, their audio/video durations, and what happens when playback restarts. | Inspect or revise the source transition. A constant audio delay cannot correct a discontinuity that occurs only at the loop boundary. |
| OBS reports dropped frames or an unstable connection. | Connection stability and whether the network can sustain the selected bitrate. | Address the connection or bitrate issue and retest. Dropped frames indicate connection instability or an unsustainable bitrate; they do not, by themselves, prove the cause of audio drift. See OBS connection troubleshooting. |
Use YouTube’s 4K60 ingest settings as a starting point
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists the following recommendations for a 4K/2160p stream at 60 fps. They are ingest targets, not a guarantee that your computer or internet connection can sustain the stream. The page does not state a publication date, so check it again before relying on these volatile settings.

These are YouTube’s recommendations, not settings that diagnose sync. Check that your upload connection is stable at the selected bitrate before going live, and monitor stream health during the test. The official guidance is at YouTube’s live encoder settings.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a pre-recorded video to loop on YouTube Live without keeping OBS or a computer running at home, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos; it does not stream a camera feed. StreamNeo does not correct sync problems baked into a source file, so verify the file’s audio and loop transition before uploading.

A technically stable loop does not establish that you have the right to broadcast the recording. Confirm that you own or have permission to use both the video and its audio, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright rules before streaming. Repeatedly broadcasting pre-recorded material also does not by itself establish that a channel meets YouTube’s monetization requirements; channel eligibility and content review are separate from audio sync. Keep proof of licenses or permissions for material you did not create.
