Turn on Dark Mode in iPhone settings, open the webpage in Safari, and take a screenshot. The key limitation: iPhone Dark Mode does not automatically make every website dark. The site must support a dark appearance; for an eligible article, Safari’s Reader view may offer a simplified alternative.
Turn on Dark Mode on your iPhone
- Open Settings and choose Appearance to select Dark. On iOS 26 and earlier, Apple documents the path as Settings > Display & Brightness. The exact menu wording can vary by iOS version; if you cannot find it, search Settings for “Dark Mode.” Apple’s Dark Mode instructions describe the current options.
- Alternatively, open Control Center, touch and hold the brightness control, then tap Dark Mode.
Make the webpage dark before capturing it
Open the page in Safari and let it finish loading. Check whether the website changes to its own dark theme. Dark Mode changes the iPhone’s system appearance, but a website needs to provide dark-mode styling for its page content to appear dark. WebKit contributor Timothy Hatcher explains: “By default there are no behavior changes with how pages look when a user is in dark mode.” WebKit’s explanation of dark-mode support covers how sites opt in.

If the site stays light
There is no universal Safari switch that forces arbitrary webpage content into dark mode. If the site offers its own theme control, use that. On some articles, Safari’s Page Menu offers Show Reader, which simplifies the page for reading; it is conditional, changes the layout, and is not a general dark-mode control. Capture the visible screen or the whole webpage
- With Face ID, quickly press and release the Side button and Volume Up together. On an iPhone with a Home button, quickly press and release the Side button and Home together.
- Tap the screenshot preview. For only what is currently visible, save the screenshot. To include a long Safari page, select Full Page in the preview.
- Inspect the full-page preview and crop if needed. Apple documents saving a full-page capture as an image to Photos or as a PDF to Files. Apple’s iPhone screenshot guide includes the capture steps and save options.
Choose a standard screenshot when you need the current viewport; choose Full Page when you need content below it. A site’s own dark theme best preserves its design. Reader may suit an eligible article when a simpler layout is acceptable.

If the button shortcut is difficult
Apple documents other screenshot triggers, including AssistiveTouch, Back Tap, and voice command. Screenshots save to Photos by default. See Apple’s screenshot instructions for the available alternatives.
Troubleshoot common issues
- The page is still white: The iPhone’s appearance setting does not compel a site to change its design. Check for a theme option on the site; otherwise, use Reader only if Safari offers it and the simplified view works for you.
- There is no Full Page option: Full Page is documented for Safari webpage captures. Confirm you opened the screenshot preview after capturing a Safari page; the option is not promised for every app or capture context.
- The settings path does not match: Menu labels can vary with iOS. Search Settings for “Dark Mode” or consult Apple’s current Dark Mode instructions.
- The button combination does not work: Press and release the correct pair for your iPhone model, or set up an alternate trigger such as AssistiveTouch, Back Tap, or voice command using Apple’s screenshot guide.
