To make an ASMR YouTube Live stream recover after Windows restarts, set up three separate things: Windows must launch OBS, OBS must start sending video, and YouTube must put the broadcast live. Saving a stream key or adding OBS to startup handles only part of the job. Configure each step, then test a full reboot and confirm the status in YouTube Studio.
Understand what has to recover
A restart does not automatically resume a live broadcast just because OBS opens again. Recovery has three checkpoints:

- Windows launches OBS. The app opens after the relevant Windows startup or sign-in event.
- OBS connects to YouTube. OBS sends the encoder feed using the YouTube server URL and stream key.
- YouTube makes the broadcast live. The broadcast’s settings determine whether the incoming feed starts it automatically or whether someone must click Go live.
Check all three. An OBS window on screen is not proof that viewers can see the stream.
Connect OBS to the intended YouTube broadcast
- Open YouTube Studio and select the intended live stream, or create a scheduled broadcast. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the broadcast’s stream settings, then enter them in OBS’s stream configuration. YouTube notes that returning creators may be able to load previous stream settings, including the key.
- Protect the key. Treat it like a password: do not show it in screenshots, publish it in a script, or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the new key.
- Confirm the right profile and broadcast are selected in OBS and YouTube Studio. A saved key can connect to the wrong channel or event if you have multiple configurations.
Make Windows open OBS after a restart
Two community-reported approaches are a shortcut in the Windows Startup folder and a task configured in Task Scheduler. Neither one proves that OBS will successfully connect or that YouTube will go live. Windows account and startup settings affect when an app runs, so use the option that fits your setup and verify it with a reboot.

Community discussion describes placing an OBS shortcut in the Startup folder or using Task Scheduler. Choose based on whether OBS should launch at sign-in, whether you need a delay or retry in your particular setup, and how easily you can confirm that it ran. Optional: start streaming when OBS launches
Some OBS community posts report launching OBS with the --startstreaming argument. The sources cited here do not establish it as a current, officially documented option for every OBS version. If you try it, confirm that your installed OBS version accepts it and that the intended profile and stream settings are saved. Do not assume the argument succeeded just because OBS opened; verify the encoder connection and YouTube status.

Set YouTube’s broadcast behavior
For a scheduled stream, check the broadcast’s Auto-start setting in YouTube Studio. OBS’s YouTube guidance says that when Auto-start is enabled, the scheduled broadcast can go live when the encoder starts streaming. If it is disabled, OBS may send a preview feed while a person still needs to click Go live. YouTube’s scheduled-stream workflow also describes checking the preview and then selecting Go live.

- Save the OBS stream configuration and confirm that it points to the intended YouTube channel and event.
- Check whether the scheduled broadcast’s Auto-start setting matches your plan.
- Restart Windows deliberately at a time when you can inspect the result. A controlled test is safer than relying on the next update or power outage to reveal a problem.
- Confirm Windows launches OBS. If it does not, troubleshoot the startup shortcut or scheduled task separately.
- In OBS, confirm that streaming has started and that it reports a connection rather than an error or repeated reconnect attempt.
- Open YouTube Studio and confirm the event is actually live. If it is showing a preview, use Go live if that is the intended workflow and someone is available to do so.
- Check the stream from a viewer’s perspective where practical, and make sure the audio is present. For ASMR, a live status alone does not establish that the microphone or playback audio is audible and clean.
Testing OBS launch, encoder connection, and YouTube live status separately makes it easier to identify which stage failed.

Troubleshoot a stream that does not resume
- OBS does not open: Check that the startup shortcut or task points to the installed OBS executable and is configured for the Windows account and startup event you actually use. Then test another restart.
- OBS opens but is not streaming: Check the saved profile, stream URL, and key. Confirm that any optional launch argument works with your installed OBS version rather than relying on community reports alone.
- OBS is sending video but YouTube is not live: Check the selected event and Auto-start setting. If Auto-start is off, a person may need to select Go live in Studio.
- The first connection fails after power returns: A community poster warns that a PC may start before the network equipment after an outage, and that OBS auto-reconnect may not recover from a failed initial connection. This is an anecdotal failure mode, not a universal diagnosis. Check that the router and internet connection are ready; if needed, test a delayed OBS launch or a retry approach in your setup.
- The stream reconnects to an unexpected event or channel: Recheck which OBS profile and YouTube broadcast are selected, especially if you use more than one channel or saved configuration.
What a restart means for the broadcast and archive
A restart can interrupt the encoder feed, and the available sources do not establish that YouTube will always preserve the same broadcast event or create a new archive after recovery. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that statement does not guarantee an archive for a particular interrupted stream.
