Set the repeat control on the media source in the encoder sending your broadcast. In OBS, enable Loop for one video, or use a VLC Video source with Loop Playlist for several files. The loop repeats the media; OBS, your computer and internet connection must still keep sending the live feed.
Choose the right loop for your relaxation stream

Loop one video in OBS
- Open the scene that will carry your broadcast. Add a Media Source and select the local video file.
- Open the source properties and enable Loop. OBS describes this setting as replaying the file after playback completes; its documented default is off.
- Review the other playback options, including Show nothing when playback ends, which hides the source after playback completes. Rehearse privately or with an unlisted stream to confirm the source remains visible and the audio behaves as expected.
- Start the encoder and check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room and the resulting audio and video before relying on the broadcast.
OBS documents support for common video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV. Supported formats do not guarantee that every file will decode correctly on every computer. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation.

Loop several files in sequence
- Install VLC, then add a VLC Video source in OBS.
- Add the local video files to its playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Leave or set Loop Playlist to on. OBS documents this option as on by default; it restarts the source when it runs out of media.
- Keep Shuffle Playlist off if you want the listed order preserved. OBS documents shuffle as off by default.
- Confirm VLC and OBS have matching architecture: the OBS documentation specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Before broadcasting publicly, check the transition from the last file to the first and listen for gaps or abrupt changes in volume.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create or select a live stream and open its stream settings.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube describes the key as the encoder feed’s “password and address”; keep it private and do not show it on screen or share it.
- Start streaming from OBS, then use the Live Control Room preview and go-live flow. YouTube says first-time enablement of live streaming may take up to 24 hours.
Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and stream settings guidance for the current Studio workflow. YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop controls affect encoder-driven starting and stopping; they do not replace the media source’s loop setting.

Keep the feed stable and plan for long sessions
- Leave upload headroom. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth 20% above the total streaming bitrate. Treat that as headroom beyond your outgoing stream, not as a target bitrate.
- Preview and monitor. Check the Live Control Room preview before going live, then monitor audio, video and stream status while the broadcast runs.
- Keep a local recording if the archive matters. YouTube’s current archive guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends a local archive as backup, and warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is an archive caveat, not a guaranteed maximum live duration. For an overnight or continuous broadcast, plan how to preserve the recording and whether to divide the broadcast into shorter sessions. YouTube archive guidance

Troubleshoot a stopped or blank relaxation stream

| The video ends instead of starting again | Reopen the OBS source properties and confirm Loop or Loop Playlist is on for the source actually used in the active scene. |
| The stream continues but the video is blank | Check that the media source is visible in the active scene, that the file can play, and that the source has not been hidden by its playback behavior. Rehearse the file in OBS before going live. |
| A VLC playlist source is missing or does not work | Confirm VLC is installed and its architecture matches OBS. In particular, 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. |
| The source loops but the broadcast stops or drops | A media loop cannot restart a failed encoder feed. Check that OBS is still sending, inspect YouTube Live Control Room’s preview and stream status, and troubleshoot the computer, upload connection or service interruption. |
