Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →A Windows update can interrupt a YouTube Live loop in two different ways: OBS may stay open but lose its connection, or Windows may restart and close OBS altogether. OBS’s Automatic Reconnect setting addresses the first problem; restarting OBS with the --startstreaming launch parameter can address the second, if your Windows startup setup, network, and YouTube settings are ready. Neither is a guarantee, so test the full restart-and-recovery path before relying on it.
The steps below are for OBS users. Other encoders may have different recovery and startup options.

Know which failure you are trying to recover from
A connection interruption while OBS is still running is different from a full Windows restart. OBS can try to reconnect in the first situation. After a reboot, OBS must be launched again before it can send video. Plan and test both parts separately.

Prepare the YouTube stream before changing Windows startup
Record the working setup
Note which encoder and OBS scene or source supplies the loop, and whether the YouTube event is scheduled or continuously open. Keep your stream key private; do not include it in screenshots, task arguments, or support posts.
Verify the stream URL, key, and event settings
In YouTube Live Control Room, check the stream settings and confirm that OBS has the matching stream URL and current key. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address” in Manage live stream settings. Anyone with the key may be able to send a feed to your stream, so treat it as a credential.

Review the event’s auto-start and auto-stop choices in Live Control Room. Those choices affect how encoder output starts and ends the event, and copied or reused stream settings can carry selections forward. Check the actual event rather than assuming its controls match another stream.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Set OBS to reconnect if its connection drops
- Open OBS Studio and go to Settings > Advanced.
- Find Network and enable Automatically Reconnect (the wording may vary by OBS version).
- Save the setting and test a brief, controlled network interruption if it is safe to do so. Confirm OBS reconnects and that YouTube receives the feed again.
This setting is for a connection loss while OBS is running. It will not reopen OBS after Windows has shut down or restarted.

Arrange for OBS to start streaming after Windows restarts
OBS documents --startstreaming as a launch parameter. For scheduled-task or other automated launches, the OBS Project says to set the working directory (“Start in…”) to the folder containing obs64.exe. See OBS Launch Parameters (published May 30, 2021).
- Find the OBS executable. Locate
obs64.exein your OBS installation folder. The precise folder depends on how OBS was installed. - Choose how Windows will launch it. Use the startup mechanism appropriate to your PC, such as a scheduled task. The OBS launch parameter does not configure Windows sign-in, task permissions, or whether the computer can start OBS unattended.
- Set the launch arguments. Add
--startstreamingto the OBS launch command or task arguments, following the format required by your chosen startup mechanism. - Set the working directory. If using a scheduled task or another automated launch, set Start in to the folder containing
obs64.exe, as OBS specifies. - Check sign-in and network readiness. Determine whether your startup arrangement requires someone to sign in and whether the network is available when the task runs. The OBS parameter does not solve either condition.
- Test while you can intervene. Use a suitable private or unlisted test stream, then perform a controlled restart. Observe whether Windows starts OBS, the correct loop source plays, OBS sends the encoder output, and YouTube receives the feed.
Windows editions and configurations differ. Do not assume that changing an update setting or suppressing a restart makes the stream recover. If you adjust Windows Update scheduling, check the current controls for your edition and distinguish delaying a restart from recovering the stream after one.

Verify the stream in YouTube Live Control Room
After a test restart, check Live Control Room for the incoming preview or feed and monitor stream health before relying on the setup. YouTube recommends previewing before going live and monitoring stream health in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that archive behavior does not confirm that a stream restarted successfully.
- Confirm OBS opened and loaded the scene or source containing the loop.
- Confirm OBS shows it is sending, rather than only displaying the loop locally.
- Confirm YouTube receives the feed and the event is in the intended state.
- Check the stream health indicators for warnings before leaving the setup unattended.
Troubleshoot by the point where recovery stopped
OBS did not open after the reboot
The failure is before the encoder can send anything. Check the Windows startup, sign-in, task trigger, permissions, and task history for your chosen startup arrangement. Confirm the task points to the right OBS executable and has the OBS program folder as its working directory.

OBS opened, but it did not start streaming
Check whether the launch arguments include --startstreaming, whether the expected OBS profile and scene loaded, and whether the task ran with the permissions and user context your setup requires. Also check that the network was ready when OBS launched.
OBS is sending, but YouTube shows no feed
Check OBS’s connection or encoder status, network access, the stream URL and key, and the event in Live Control Room. If YouTube reports an encoder start error, its stream-key guidance says to get a stream key from Live Control Room and update the encoder.
The feed arrives, but the event does not behave as expected
Review the event’s auto-start and auto-stop settings in Live Control Room. Verify that you are checking the intended event and that its stream settings have not been copied from a configuration with different choices.

The loop is visible in OBS but is not moving as expected
Check the OBS scene and source that supply the loop, and verify playback locally before investigating YouTube settings. A successful Windows launch does not prove that the intended media source loaded or is playing.
