In OBS, turn on Loop for a single Media Source, or use a VLC Video source with Loop Playlist enabled for several clips. If you do not want the story to repeat, prepare a second scene and switch to it before playback ends. A video ending does not automatically mean the YouTube broadcast has ended: manage the media source and the live broadcast separately.
Choose what viewers should see after the story
Decide the intended experience first. Repeating a story keeps visuals on screen without a manual scene change, while a prepared transition lets you speak to viewers, pause, or show a calm holding card. Do not rely on the clip’s last frame as a fallback: OBS can hide a Media Source when playback ends.
- Repeat one video: Use an OBS Media Source and enable Loop.
- Cycle through several videos: Use a VLC Video source, add the clips to its playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. Choose whether the order should remain fixed or shuffle.
- End the video but continue live: Prepare an alternate scene, such as you reading from a book, a holding card, or an intentional transition, and switch to it before the clip ends.
Loop one story in OBS
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene and select the local video file. OBS documents common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM, as well as audio files. OBS Media Sources
- Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop.
- Confirm the source is visible in the scene and check the audio level. Preview the ending and verify that playback starts again as intended.
Loop a playlist of stories
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source and create a playlist of the clips you want to play. This source requires VLC to be installed. OBS VLC Video Source
- Set the playlist order or shuffle behavior to suit the program.
- Enable Loop Playlist and preview the transition between clips, including their audio. Check that the final item returns to the start of the playlist.
Keep the broadcast live if playback should stop
If the clip should play once, create and test a separate scene before going live. It might show the storyteller reading aloud, a quiet illustrated holding card, or a planned transition to the next activity. Switch to that scene before the video finishes; a Media Source may disappear at the end of playback.
Then check the broadcast separately in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube provides live-stream controls and settings such as auto-start and auto-stop. Confirm the settings and use the controls there to manage whether the broadcast remains live after the scene changes. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings

If you mean a YouTube video embedded on a page
The OBS steps above apply to local media in an OBS production. For an embedded YouTube player, Google’s IFrame Player API documents a loop parameter for a single video when the playlist parameter is set to that same video’s ID. This affects playback in the embedded player; it is not an OBS encoder or live-broadcast setting. YouTube IFrame Player API
Plan for children’s livestream rules
YouTube says creators must be at least 16 to livestream. It also says that streams featuring 13–15-year-olds who are not visibly accompanied by an adult may have live chat disabled, and the account may temporarily lose access to live chat or other features.
