If you mean listening to a playlist yourself, turn on YouTube’s playlist Repeat control. If you mean broadcasting a public 24/7 music livestream, that control is not enough: your source software must loop the media and keep sending it through an encoder to YouTube. Set up and test the loop in the software that supplies the stream, then monitor the broadcast.
Choose the right kind of repeat
For personal listening
Open a video from the playlist on desktop, expand the playlist, and click the Loop control in the playlist box. On a TV or game console, select Repeat until the setting shows Playlist. This repeats playback for you; it does not make your channel broadcast a live stream. YouTube Help: repeat a playlist.

For a public livestream
A livestream uses an encoder to send a source feed to YouTube. YouTube’s viewer-side playlist Repeat control is not documented as a control for that encoder feed. Configure the media source or automation software to repeat, and keep it feeding the encoder. YouTube’s setup guide explains the encoder connection and stream controls, but does not prescribe one universal playlist-loop setting for all source software. YouTube Help: encoder setup.
Set up and test a continuous broadcast
- Choose an encoder workflow. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders. Software running on a computer can be a practical creator-controlled setup; dedicated hardware may suit a higher-production event. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, but that is not a requirement for every creator. YouTube Help: live encoder guidance.
- Configure the source to repeat. In the source player or automation software, enable playlist repeat or its equivalent. Exact controls vary by software, so do not assume that a setting in YouTube’s viewing player will loop the encoder’s media.
- Test the playlist transition. Before relying on the setup, run a private or unlisted test stream and observe what happens at the playlist’s end. Confirm that the next item starts and that audio and video continue into the encoder. The cited YouTube setup guidance does not define a universal method for this step.
- Connect the encoder to YouTube. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview before going live. Treat the stream key like a credential: it is what lets the encoder send the feed to your channel. YouTube Help: encoder setup.
- Check upload capacity. Compare your available upload bandwidth with the complete outgoing stream bitrate, including audio and video. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total bitrate; a disrupted connection can break the stream. YouTube Help: live streaming tips.
- Monitor and test recovery. Watch stream quality, audio, video, network status, and the source software while live. YouTube recommends continuous audio/video monitoring. If you use a backup encoder, test it by stopping the primary and confirming that playback rolls over to the backup. YouTube Help: live encoder guidance.
Know what long streams mean for archives and replay
YouTube’s encoder setup help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its DVR guidance says rewind may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. These are archive and replay limitations; the cited guidance does not say that YouTube automatically ends every stream at 12 hours.
