To restart a 24/7 bhajan stream after a Windows reboot, make Windows launch OBS and then verify that OBS reconnects to the intended YouTube live broadcast. For most people, the simplest option is a Startup-folder shortcut, which runs when the account signs in. Task Scheduler can start OBS at system boot or at sign-in and offers retry and network conditions, but neither method guarantees that the right broadcast goes live. Test the entire recovery path—including the network and YouTube destination—before relying on it unattended.
Choose when OBS should launch
Windows offers two practical launch paths. Choose based on whether you need OBS to open only after someone signs in or want Windows to trigger it at system start. Launching the program is just the first step: the stream destination and network recovery still need to work.

Option 1: Launch OBS when you sign in
This is usually the better fit when you want OBS’s normal interface available for checking the stream and intervening manually.

- Check Startup apps: Open Task Manager, select Startup apps, and see whether OBS is listed. If it is, enable it. Microsoft documents this setting for launching an app when the user signs in.
- If OBS is not listed, open the Startup folder: Press Windows key + R, enter
shell:startup, and press Enter. This opens the current user’s Startup folder. To configure a shortcut for all users of the device, useshell:common startupinstead; administrative access may be required. - Add an OBS shortcut: Create or copy a shortcut to the OBS executable into the folder. Use the installed executable’s actual location rather than assuming a path.
- Sign in and check: Restart Windows, sign in to the account that owns the shortcut, and confirm that OBS opens. Then verify the broadcast itself; an open OBS window alone does not confirm that YouTube is live.
These are sign-in launch methods. If nobody will sign in after a reboot, they will not by themselves start OBS.

Option 2: Use Task Scheduler for system start or sign-in
Microsoft’s schtasks reference distinguishes /sc onstart, which triggers a task each time the system starts, from /sc onlogon, which triggers when a user logs on. Choose the trigger deliberately: system start is not the same as an interactive user session. A graphical program such as OBS may not be visible or behave as expected when launched outside the operator’s normal desktop session.
- Open Task Scheduler: Search Windows for Task Scheduler and choose Create Task if you need access to the task’s trigger and settings.
- Set the trigger: Add a trigger for At startup if the task should run when Windows starts, or At log on if it should run when a user signs in. The exact label can vary by Windows version. Select the intended account where applicable.
- Set the action: Choose Start a program and point it to the installed OBS executable. If you use arguments, confirm them with a controlled test rather than assuming they will select a broadcast.
- Choose a task context appropriate for monitoring: If an operator needs the OBS interface, configure and test the task with that user session in mind. Running before sign-in can reduce visibility; a community user reported a setup in which OBS restarted without a visible window or tray icon, making manual control difficult.
- Consider task retry and network conditions: Task Scheduler supports settings to restart a task after failure and to run only when a network is available. Microsoft’s task schema requires both a retry count and interval for restart-on-failure. These settings concern the scheduled task; they do not guarantee OBS or YouTube will restore a dropped stream.
- Test the configured task: Run it, observe what appears on screen, and confirm the actual YouTube broadcast rather than treating a successful task status as proof that the stream is online.
Microsoft documents the startup and logon triggers and the task settings described here. They control when Windows runs a program, not which YouTube broadcast OBS selects or whether the streaming session recovers.

Make sure OBS reaches the intended YouTube broadcast
In an OBS Project community thread about a 24/7 YouTube stream on Windows 11, a participant suggested adding --startstreaming to an OBS shortcut and using Task Scheduler after a power failure. That is community advice, not a guaranteed current OBS interface contract. Another participant reported that OBS still prompted them to select the stream configured in YouTube Live Studio when using the argument.

So test what happens with your own OBS profile, account, and broadcast. Confirm that the correct stream is selected and that YouTube shows it as live. Do not assume that OBS opening—or an attempted automatic start—means the intended bhajan stream has resumed.

Account for the network starting later than the PC
After a power interruption, Windows may start OBS before the modem, router, or other network equipment has restored internet access. An OBS forum participant in the March 2024 thread “Autostart after e.g. Reboot” described the issue this way: “After power outages your PC and OBS will boot up faster than your network equipment.” This is one user’s practical experience, not a measured or universal result. The same discussion cautioned that an initial connection failure may not recover as expected.
- If OBS starts too early, check whether the PC and network equipment have internet access before expecting a live connection.
- Use Task Scheduler’s network-availability condition if it fits your setup, but still test what happens when connectivity returns.
- If short power interruptions are a concern, a UPS for both the PC and network equipment is one possible measure. The needed capacity and runtime depend on the equipment and are not established here; a UPS cannot guarantee continuous streaming.
Run an end-to-end restart test
Do a controlled test before leaving the stream unattended. Use the Windows account, OBS profile, YouTube broadcast, and network equipment that you intend to rely on.

- Note how the stream is currently configured, including which YouTube live broadcast OBS should use.
- Restart Windows under the conditions your chosen method is designed for: test a full reboot for an at-start task, or sign in for a Startup-folder or logon-triggered launch.
- Check whether OBS opens in the expected account session and whether someone can see and control it.
- Allow time for the internet connection and any network equipment to become available.
- Confirm in YouTube that the intended broadcast is actually live. A visible OBS window, a running task, or an old broadcast page is not sufficient confirmation.
- If it fails, identify which part failed—Windows launch, network availability, OBS connection, or broadcast selection—then change one setting and repeat the test.
Troubleshooting: what failed and what to check
