On PS4, open Minecraft, choose Play, open the Servers tab, pick a featured server and select Join Server. You need an active PlayStation Plus subscription for online multiplayer. Typing in any third-party server address is a different matter, and Minecraft’s official pages don’t confirm it for PS4.
Before you join: what you need
- PlayStation Plus. Minecraft’s multiplayer requirements say console online play needs a premium online subscription. Minecraft’s PlayStation announcement names PlayStation Plus. Prices change, so check PlayStation’s store for current terms.
- An internet connection and the Bedrock-compatible version of Minecraft. Minecraft says players need the matching edition for Bedrock multiplayer.
- A Microsoft account, only in some cases. You need one linked to your PSN account to play with friends on other platforms or to join a Realm. It isn’t needed just to browse featured servers.
Join a featured server on PS4
- Launch Minecraft on your PS4 and wait for the title screen.
- Select Play.
- Open the Servers tab.
- Choose one of the featured servers. Minecraft’s server guide says this tab lists featured servers that are currently online.
- Select Join Server and accept any prompts.
- Let any required resource packs download, then wait for the server lobby to load.
Link your Microsoft account if you need friends or Realms
Minecraft Help describes the process like this:
- Launch Minecraft and choose Sign in with a Microsoft account on the title screen.
- Scan the QR code shown, or visit
microsoft.com/linkon another device and enter the displayed code. - Sign in and confirm. The accounts are then linked.
One Microsoft account can be linked to one PSN account. Linking doesn’t give you access to arbitrary outside servers.

Can you add a custom server address on PS4?
Minecraft’s general Bedrock guide describes an Add Server option. You enter a server name, address and optional port. That guide is written for Bedrock generally, though. The official pages don’t say a PS4 has that control, so don’t assume it does. If a server operator tells you to type an IP on PS4, check what your own Servers tab offers. Otherwise stick to the featured list.

If you’re trying to reach a friend’s ongoing world, ask for a Realm invitation or use the Friends route. It isn’t a public server.

Troubleshooting
- The Servers tab won’t load or the server won’t join: confirm the console is online and your PlayStation Plus subscription is active. Then try another featured server, since listings can go offline.
- A friend on another platform can’t be added: link your Microsoft account first.
- Version problems: Minecraft warns that game and server versions must match. Preview builds may need to return to a released version.
- A friend’s world isn’t in the list: it’s probably private. Use the invitation path.
Staying safe on servers
Minecraft’s guidance says to keep real-world personal details private and to add only people you trust. Use the mute, block and report tools if someone behaves badly.
