To join a friend who is already playing a Fortnite Creative experience, open the Social panel, select your friend, and choose Join Creative Server. If that option is unavailable, check the friend’s privacy setting or join their party and enter the experience together.

Select Join Creative Server. Epic documents this as the way to enter a friend’s in-progress Creative game without first being in the same party. Epic’s Creative permissions guide explains the direct-join option.

If “Join Creative Server” is missing or unavailable
First confirm your friend is in an active Creative session, rather than only in the lobby. For a non-party friend to join directly, the host’s participation privacy must allow Friends or Public. Ask your friend to review the privacy option from their profile. Epic also lists social and gameplay privacy controls under Settings > Account and Privacy; labels and placement can shift with updates. Join through a party instead
If direct joining does not work, get into the same party first, then have the party leader start or enter the Creative experience. Party access is controlled separately from Creative-session privacy.

If the party is set to Invite Only, the host must invite you or approve your join request. With Joinable, friends can enter without a separate invitation.

Party Joinability is managed in the party controls in the Social tab. Epic describes the options in its Epic Parties FAQ.
Once you are together, enter or launch the map. If the friend is already in an in-progress server, the direct-join route may be quicker; the party route is useful when the direct option is unavailable or you want to enter together.

Playing together across platforms
Epic says Fortnite players can play with friends on any platform. Its friend instructions note that players on platforms other than PC or Mac need cross-play enabled to play with friends on other platforms. Platform-specific settings and support can vary, so check the relevant platform’s cross-play controls if the invitation or join attempt fails. Epic’s friend and cross-play instructions also explain how to add someone by their Epic display name from the lobby.
Joining to play is not permission to edit
Visiting a published map to play does not automatically give you permission to edit its island. For Create-mode collaboration, Epic describes a separate owner-led flow: the owner sets permissions to Public, invites the other player to the party, has both players ready up, meets them in the hub, and enters the owner’s personal golden rift. The documentation is older, so the exact menu labels may differ in the current client. See Epic’s Creative-mode overview.
If you can join but cannot talk
Fortnite distinguishes party chat from island game chat. Game chat works only when you are in the same island instance and the island creator supports it. Age settings, parental controls, and platform settings may also limit voice or text chat. Check which channel you intend to use and review the communication controls in Epic’s party, voice chat, and text chat instructions.
