Use a fresh Playwright BrowserContext for each independent test. It isolates cookies and browser storage while letting multiple sessions run in one browser. Playwright Test already does this when you use its default page or context fixture. For reliable parallel tests, also isolate server-side users and records: a new browser session cannot stop two tests from changing the same account or database row.
What browser-session isolation does—and does not—protect
A browser context is an isolated browser session. Separate contexts do not share cookies, local storage, or session storage, so one test’s browser-side login or preferences do not leak into another test’s context. Playwright can host multiple contexts in a single browser, avoiding the need to launch a separate browser process for every session. See Playwright’s BrowserContext and isolation documentation.

This boundary is only on the browser side. Contexts do not isolate server-side accounts, database records, global application settings, external services, or files. If two tests use the same account and mutate its data, they can still interfere even with separate contexts. Playwright describes concurrency considerations in its parallel testing guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse Playwright Test’s default fixtures for independent tests
In a Playwright Test suite, use the built-in page or context fixture rather than keeping a page or context in shared global state. Playwright Test provides a new context for each test, and the page fixture is a page in that test’s context. A test can therefore start with its own browser session without manually resetting cookies between cases.

import { test, expect } from '@playwright/test';
test('user can sign in', async ({ page }) => {
await page.goto('https://example.com/login');
await page.getByLabel('Email').fill('[email protected]');
await page.getByLabel('Password').fill('test-password');
await page.getByRole('button', { name: 'Sign in' }).click();
await expect(page.getByText('Welcome')).toBeVisible();
});
test('another test starts with a separate session', async ({ page }) => {
await page.goto('https://example.com/account');
await expect(page.getByText('Sign in')).toBeVisible();
});
The URLs and selectors above are illustrative; replace them with the routes and accessible labels in your application. The isolation behavior comes from the test-scoped fixture, not from the example credentials.
Model multiple users with separate contexts
When one test needs two independently signed-in users at the same time—for example, a sender and recipient in a messaging flow—create two contexts from the same browser and give each context its own page. Do not open two pages in one context if the users must have separate cookies or storage.

For actual parallel tests, use test accounts and data designed for concurrent access. Unique contexts separate the browser sessions; they do not make shared account mutations safe.

Avoid repeated logins with saved authentication state
Playwright can save authenticated browser state and use it to initialize new contexts. This avoids repeating the sign-in flow while preserving a fresh context for each test. Follow the Playwright authentication guidance for generating and applying storage state.

Use a shared saved login only if tests using it can run concurrently without changing server-side state in ways that affect one another. If tests mutate the account, allocate separate accounts—for example, one per worker—or arrange safe, unique test data. Authentication state can include cookies or headers that allow someone to impersonate the account. Keep generated state files in an ignored directory and never commit them.
Make parallel tests safe beyond the browser
Fresh contexts solve browser-state collisions, not shared-resource collisions. For parallel workers, isolate the resources the tests create or modify:

- Use unique identifiers for records created or edited by each test, so workers do not overwrite or delete one another’s data.
- Use a test user per worker when tests need persistent account state, and ensure that user’s data is not shared with other workers.
- For a genuinely shared resource that cannot safely be used concurrently, serialize only the affected tests or configure a single worker where necessary.
- Clean up test records when appropriate, but do not treat cleanup as a substitute for fresh browser contexts. Cleanup can miss state or fail partway through.
Playwright’s guidance on avoiding shared state in parallel tests covers the backend coordination side of this problem.
Fresh context or cleanup between tests?
For browser state, prefer starting a test with a fresh context over trying to reset a reused session. Cleanup requires knowing every stateful surface to clear and can leave behind storage that is easy to overlook. Playwright’s isolation guidance describes the benefit of starting from scratch: if a test fails, the state to investigate is more likely to belong to that test. A context is non-persistent unless configured otherwise; the Python BrowserContext API documents non-persistent contexts as not writing browsing data to disk.

Persist only the authentication state your test setup needs. A saved storage-state file is a deliberate exception to starting fully unauthenticated: it seeds a new context with the chosen login state, but the rest of the test still has an isolated context.
Common isolation failures and fixes
- A test is unexpectedly signed in. Check whether it reuses a global page, context, or persistent browser profile. Use Playwright Test’s per-test fixture or create a new context for that session.
- Two users appear to share a login. They may be using separate pages in the same context. Create one context per identity.
- Parallel tests edit or delete the same data. Browser contexts cannot prevent backend collisions. Give tests unique records or worker-specific users; serialize only the unsafe operation if necessary.
- A supposedly fresh test is already authenticated. Check whether the test setup applies saved authentication state. Use it intentionally, and use separate accounts if tests mutate shared account state.
- Credentials or a session appear in source control. Remove generated authentication-state files from version control and keep them in an ignored location; treat them as secrets that can enable impersonation.
Or skip the browser setup
For capturing a website screenshot rather than testing browser-session isolation, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API and an MCP server. It does not replace Playwright test contexts; it is an alternative when the task is to capture a page.
Example cURL request (see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation):
Quick Recap
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server lets AI agents use screenshot tools. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.
