To integrate Parasoft Selenic with Java Selenium tests, install and license Selenic, attach its Java agent to the test JVM, run at least one successful test, and then use the analyzer to review captured execution data and locator recommendations. The agent does not replace Selenium; it adds capture and optional analysis or healing to an existing test workflow.
What the basic integration does
Parasoft Selenic 2026.1 uses two JARs: selenic_agent.jar captures execution information while tests run, and selenic_analyzer.jar analyzes that information and can generate recommendations. The agent stores data in the user’s Parasoft recorded-data directory by default. Start with command-line integration; an IDE plug-in is optional.

- Install the Selenic archive and configure its license.
- Confirm your Java, Selenium, test framework, operating system, browser, and WebDriver meet the requirements for your exact release.
- Make the agent JAR available to the test JVM and pass it as a Java agent.
- Run a successful test with capture enabled.
- Run the analyzer, inspect its report, and decide whether to apply recommendations manually or configure self-healing.
Parasoft’s Selenic 2026.1 Command Line documentation states: “At least one successful test execution is required for Selenic to provide recommendations.”

Attach the agent to a Maven test run
The basic documented Maven pattern is:
mvn test -DargLine=-javaagent:/path/to/selenic_agent.jar=captureDom=true
Replace /path/to/selenic_agent.jar with the installed JAR’s actual path. The key option for locator recommendations and automatic bad-locator healing is captureDom=true, which enables DOM capture when Selenium locates elements.
Make sure the argument reaches the JVM that runs the tests, not only Maven’s own JVM. If your project already sets Surefire’s argLine—for example, for another Java agent or coverage tool—preserve those existing flags and combine them with the Selenic agent argument. Do not overwrite a required existing configuration. The exact property wiring depends on the project’s test plug-in and build configuration.

After the test run succeeds, invoke the analyzer JAR using the command and options for your installed release, then inspect the generated report. Parasoft documents the capture and analysis flow in its command-line guide. Review recommendations before adopting them: a recommendation is evidence to assess, not proof that an application change is harmless.
Choose whether to enable self-healing
selfHealing=true enables Selenic’s default locator and wait-condition healing features. Locator healing uses historical execution information to attempt an updated locator at runtime; it requires a successful prior test execution. Wait-condition healing extends Selenium waits to address insufficient wait conditions and does not have the same historical-run prerequisite. Parasoft documents a default additional wait extension of 50% when the relevant self-healing options are enabled.
Healing can help a test cope with a changed locator or a wait that is too short, but it cannot establish that changed application behavior is correct. Keep assertions that verify the user-visible outcome, and investigate failures that may signal a real regression instead of treating runtime healing as a fix.

Optional: add the IDE plug-in and record tests
The command-line integration does not require an IDE plug-in. The plug-in can import recommendations, create Selenium tests from recorded actions, and update test code. Installation differs between Eclipse and IntelliJ. Parasoft says Selenic cannot run in the same IDE instance as other Parasoft tools; use a separate IDE instance for Selenic.

It captures UI actions that Selenic can use to create Selenium tests and JUnit test projects. Recorder installation also installs the SOAtest Web Proxy, which is required for certain API-test and multi-session coverage workflows. Parasoft’s test creation documentation describes this workflow.
Optional: run test impact analysis
Test impact analysis (TIA) is a separate coverage-based workflow for running Selenium tests affected by application code changes. The simple agent invocation above does not enable TIA. For Selenic 2026.1, TIA requires Java 17 or 21, even though the general requirements also list Java 11.

- Configure and attach Parasoft’s coverage agent to the application under test (AUT).
- Run tests so coverage collection can associate test cases with the code they exercise.
- Process collected coverage with
jtestcovto create a baseline report. - Deploy the changed application and run the Selenic Maven plug-in with the baseline so it selects impacted tests.
Scope coverage to application source code with includes and excludes; Parasoft warns that instrumenting every class can take too long. For multi-session mode, enable it in the coverage agent and identify the test user or process with coverageAgentUserID. The documented workflow also uses the SOAtest Web Proxy for full test runs in that mode. A keystore can be configured for HTTPS coverage-agent communication. Follow the release-specific TIA instructions for the coverage-agent, baseline, and Maven plug-in settings.
Optional: add Applitools visual checkpoints
Selenic can integrate with Applitools for visual checks, but Applitools is not required for ordinary Selenium execution or Selenic analysis. With the agent enabled, checkpoints can be captured before Selenium navigation actions, before clicks, and at the end of each test.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Put the required Applitools JAR files on the test project classpath.
- Make
APPLITOOLS_API_KEYavailable to the CI process, or pass it as a Java system property. - Enable the agent option
applitools=trueand supply the requiredapplitoolsApplicationName.
Results appear in the Applitools web application and Selenic’s HTML report. Consult Parasoft’s Applitools integration instructions for the exact configuration.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Optional: create API tests during UI execution
Selenic can create API tests with Parasoft SOAtest during UI test execution when createApiTests=true is configured. This is not part of the minimum Selenium integration: a SOAtest server and Parasoft Web Proxy must be running. The documented requirements specify SOAtest Server 2022.2 or later, sequential test execution, and no support for Apple Safari. In concurrent runs, creation is limited to one scenario at a time. See Parasoft’s API-test creation documentation before adding the workflow.
Troubleshoot common integration failures
- No recommendations appear: Check that an agent-enabled test completed successfully and that the analyzer is reading the recorded-data directory for that run. The vendor requires at least one successful execution.
- Locator recommendations or locator healing are missing: Confirm the agent argument includes
captureDom=trueand reaches the test JVM. - The tests still run, but Selenic captures nothing: Verify the JAR path and that the
-javaagentflag is passed through the test runner’s JVM arguments, not merely to Maven’s process. - Another agent stops working after the change: Inspect Surefire and other test plug-in configuration for an overwritten
argLine. Retain and combine the project’s existing JVM flags. - Results appear to belong to another run or project: Use a unique session identifier or build ID when coordinating runs, and follow Parasoft’s documented session-order workflow for analysis.
- TIA selects an unsuitable test set or does not run: Confirm the AUT was instrumented, the coverage scope includes relevant application code, test-linked coverage was collected, a baseline was created, and the changed application and baseline are passed to the impacted-tests goal. Check the Java 17 or 21 TIA requirement.
- Applitools checkpoints fail: Confirm the Applitools JARs are on the test classpath, the API key reaches CI or the JVM, and both required agent settings are present.
- API tests are not created: Verify SOAtest Server and the Web Proxy are running, the SOAtest version meets the requirement, execution is sequential, and the browser is not Safari.

If your goal is to capture a website screenshot rather than instrument Selenium tests, ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API and MCP server. It is not a replacement for Selenic’s Selenium analysis or test impact workflows. One GET request returns an image or PDF; for example:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters. Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. An MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
