Cartridge fit and control-panel steps vary by model, so do not force a filter or assume one reset method works for every Samsung refrigerator.
Find the right filter before you start
Samsung uses different water-filter types across refrigerator models. Check your refrigerator’s model number and verify the compatible cartridge in the Samsung US filter instructions or your refrigerator’s manual. You can also read the part number printed on the existing cartridge. HAF-CIN, HAF-QIN, and HAFCU1 are examples of Samsung filter types, not interchangeable options by default. Have the matching replacement filter and a towel ready. Samsung warns in its surfaced owner-manual material that unapproved filters may leak and damage the refrigerator; this is Samsung’s caution, not a comparison of every non-Samsung filter. Do not infer a cartridge’s contaminant performance or certification from its fit alone.
Replace the filter step by step
- Shut off the water supply and relieve pressure. Turn off the refrigerator’s water supply, then dispense water until the flow stops. Samsung Canada recommends this to reduce pressure before removing the cartridge.
- Locate and open the filter compartment. The compartment location varies by refrigerator. If you cannot find it, consult the user manual for your model.
- Remove the old cartridge. For HAF-CIN or HAF-QIN, rotate the filter counterclockwise until it unlocks, then pull it out. For HAFCU1, twist left to unlock and pull the cartridge down. Keep the towel beneath the compartment because a few drops may escape.
- Prepare and insert the replacement. Remove its protective cap. Insert the cartridge into the housing and turn it clockwise until it locks. For HAF-CIN or HAF-QIN, align the lock mark with the housing indicator; for HAFCU1, align the notch with the arrow. If the cartridge will not align or lock, stop and recheck its part number and refrigerator compatibility rather than forcing it.
- Restore the water supply and flush. Turn the supply back on and follow the flushing amount or duration specified for your refrigerator and region; guidance differs, as outlined below.
- Reset the filter reminder. Use the procedure for your refrigerator’s control panel or manual. Do this after installing the cartridge and flushing the line.
Flush the new filter using the applicable instructions
Flushing clears the new cartridge and line after installation. Samsung’s published instructions do not give one universal quantity, so use the guidance that applies to your refrigerator and region.

These are regional instructions, not amounts to combine. If the manual for your exact model gives a different direction, follow that manual.
Reset the filter-light reminder
The reminder reset varies by model. Samsung says many refrigerators use a three-second button hold, but the button label and method can differ: some models use a button combination or an on-screen menu. Check the control-panel instructions in your refrigerator’s manual or Samsung’s support page for the exact model. Do not rely on a button sequence from another refrigerator.

When to replace the filter, and what to do if it will not fit
Samsung gives six months as a general replacement interval, not a guarantee that every filter will last exactly that long. Water quality and dispenser use affect timing; reduced water flow can also indicate that replacement is needed. Check your model’s guidance if the reminder appears earlier or later.
