Install Multicraft as two connected components: its PHP web panel and the daemon that starts and manages Minecraft servers. On a Linux VPS, download and run the setup script as root, complete the installer at http://your.address/multicraft/, start the daemon, remove install.php, change the default administrator password, and then download Minecraft and create a server from the panel.

What you are installing
Multicraft is not a single process. The panel is the browser-based administration interface, while the daemon runs on a VPS and controls the Minecraft server processes. A normal single-VPS installation can host both pieces, but they still have separate configuration, permissions and logs.

- Daemon: a background service that launches, stops and monitors Minecraft instances. The daemon itself has no external software requirement listed by the official documentation.
- Minecraft runtime: Java must be installed and accessible to the Linux account that runs each Minecraft server. As the official installation documentation states, “Java is required to run the Minecraft server.”
The commands below assume a Linux VPS, a root shell (or an account that can become root), a DNS name or IP address for the panel, and a web server already configured to serve the directory selected by the setup script. They do not provide a performance sizing formula: the appropriate CPU, memory and storage depend on the Minecraft version, world size, mods or plugins, concurrent players and the results of your own monitoring.
Prerequisites and requirements
Panel software
The documented panel requirements are a web server with PHP 5.4 or newer and these PHP extensions:

MySQL requires at least one available database. The documentation says two databases are ideal when you intend to keep panel and daemon data separate. SQLite is available as the default installation choice, but the account used by the web server must be able to read and write the SQLite database file.
Daemon and Minecraft software
The daemon does not have an additional external dependency in the documented requirements. Minecraft does: install Java before attempting to launch a server, and verify that the Minecraft user can execute it. The official installation documentation does not specify a particular Java release, so choose a release supported by the Minecraft version you plan to run and confirm it with that version’s own documentation.

- Decide which Linux user will own the Minecraft files. The setup script can create the requested server user if it does not exist.
- Reserve a web address such as
http://your.address/multicraft/for the panel and ensure the web server points at the panel’s web root. - For MySQL on another host, plan firewall rules and database credentials before running the browser installer. The default MySQL port is
3306, unless your connection string specifies another port. - If several daemons will share one panel, plan a Dynamic license and a unique daemon ID for every daemon.
Download the Linux package
Use the official Linux 64-bit archive URL supplied for this installation. Run the commands as root so the setup script can create users, install files and set ownership:

When setup.sh starts, answer its prompts carefully. It can create the selected server user, make the base installation directory, copy the bin and jar directories, create multicraft.key when you provide a license, write multicraft.conf, copy the panel into the web root, set ownership and run set_permissions. Record the installation path and the server user: you need both for daemon startup, service configuration and log inspection.
Complete the browser installer
- Point your browser at
http://your.address/multicraft/, replacingyour.addresswith the VPS hostname or IP and preserving the trailing path. - Follow the front-end installer to select the database type and enter the database connection details. With SQLite, confirm that the web-server account can access the database file. With MySQL, use a database account that can connect from the panel host and, when applicable, from the daemon host.
- Keep the daemon password consistent. The password configured in
multicraft.confmust be identical to the daemon password stored in the panel configuration; a mismatch prevents the panel from authenticating to the daemon. - Finish the installer and test that you can reach the login page before moving on to server creation.
As soon as the installation works, delete install.php. Leaving the installer available exposes an unnecessary administrative entry point. The official documentation gives the same security instruction: “For security purposes, please delete the ‘install.php’ as soon as everything is working.”
rm /path/to/your/panel/install.phpReplace the example path with the actual panel directory created by setup.sh. Do not delete the file before confirming that the installer completed successfully, because you may need it to finish an incomplete setup.
Start the Multicraft daemon
Start the daemon using the path selected during setup. The documented example uses a Minecraft account named minecraft:

/home/minecraft/multicraft/bin/multicraft startIf you selected another home or base directory, adjust the path to that installation. Starting the daemon is separate from creating a Minecraft server: at this point you are starting Multicraft’s controller, not necessarily a configured game instance.
Check that it stayed running
- Verify that the command returns without an error and that the daemon process remains active.
- Open the panel and check whether the daemon is shown as online or available.
- Inspect the daemon log beside
multicraft.conf, normally namedmulticraft.log, if the panel cannot connect or the process exits.
Do not work around a failed start by repeatedly launching the command. First read the log, verify the configured paths and permissions, and confirm Java access for the Minecraft user.
Make the daemon start after a reboot
The official Linux method installs a systemd unit, gives it normal file permissions and enables it at boot:

systemctl start multicraftThen check its state:
systemctl status multicraftIf systemd reports a failure, compare the service’s configured path and user with the values chosen in setup.sh. A unit that points to a different home directory can fail even though the manual start command works. Use the daemon log beside multicraft.conf together with the systemd status output to identify the first error.
Download Minecraft and create the first server
After the daemon is online and the administrator account is secure, use the panel’s built-in workflow rather than manually copying an arbitrary server jar:
- Sign in with the initial
adminaccount. - Open Users and change the default
adminpassword immediately. Use a unique, long password that is not reused on the VPS or database. - Open Settings → Update Minecraft and use the available download options to obtain the Minecraft server version you intend to run.
- Open Servers → Create Server.
- Choose the daemon, server name, directory and Minecraft version, then save the server definition.
- Start the new instance from the server controls and watch its console for the first boot messages, world generation and any request to accept the Minecraft EULA.
The exact fields offered by the panel can vary with the installed Multicraft release and license. The important sequence is to update or download the Minecraft files first, then associate them with a server definition on an online daemon.

When SQLite is the practical choice
Use SQLite when the panel and daemon are on one VPS, the database file can remain on that VPS, and the web-server account can access it. Check ownership and permissions after setup; a database file that is readable by root but not by the web-server user will produce installer or runtime errors.
When MySQL is the better choice
Choose MySQL when the panel and daemons need a shared database, when you want the database on a separate machine, or when direct file access would be awkward. Configure the same database details in multicraft.conf and the panel configuration. Ensure that MySQL accepts the connection from the relevant VPS addresses and that firewalls allow only the required sources to reach port 3306 (or the custom port in your connection string).

- Create the database and a dedicated MySQL account with only the privileges Multicraft needs.
- Permit connections from the panel and daemon IP addresses instead of opening MySQL to the entire internet.
- Enter matching host, port, database name, username and password values wherever Multicraft asks for them.
- Set the same daemon password in the daemon configuration and panel configuration; this is separate from the MySQL password.
- Test connectivity from each host before diagnosing a panel or daemon bug.
Run multiple daemons on different VPSs
A Dynamic license can allow one Multicraft panel to manage Minecraft instances distributed across multiple physical or virtual machines. In that design, the panel is the common control point and each VPS runs its own daemon.
- Install the daemon on each VPS and make the daemon hosts use the shared MySQL database.
- Make sure every host can reach the MySQL server on its configured port.
- Set the same daemon authentication password in each daemon’s
multicraft.confand in the panel’s corresponding configuration. - Assign a unique
idinmulticraft.confto every daemon. Reusing an ID can cause the panel to treat separate hosts as the same daemon. - Confirm that the Dynamic license is active and supports the number or range of daemon IDs you are configuring.
- Start each daemon and verify that the panel discovers it through the shared database.
The panel detects distributed daemons through that shared database; it does not require the daemons to share a local filesystem. Keep game worlds and server files on the VPS where their daemon runs, while keeping the database connectivity and credentials consistent.
Troubleshoot common installation failures
The panel cannot find the daemon
- Open the daemon log, normally
multicraft.logbesidemulticraft.conf, and look for authentication, database or startup errors. - Open the panel log at
protected/runtime/application.logand match its timestamp with the daemon error. - Compare the daemon password character for character in the daemon and panel configurations.
- For a remote setup, test database reachability and confirm that the MySQL server allows the connecting host on port
3306or your selected port. - For a Dynamic deployment, confirm that the license is active and that every daemon has a unique, license-supported
id.
The daemon starts but Minecraft will not launch
- Check that Java is installed.
- Run the Java command as the same Linux user that owns the Minecraft server files, not only as root.
- Verify that the selected Minecraft jar was downloaded through Settings → Update Minecraft and that the server definition points to the intended version.
- Read the server console and daemon log for permission, path or memory errors before changing unrelated settings.
The browser installer reports a database or permission error
- With SQLite, inspect the database file and its parent directory. The web-server account needs the necessary read and write access.
- With MySQL, recheck hostname, port, database name, username and password, then verify that the server accepts connections from the VPS address.
- Check that all required PHP extensions are loaded by the PHP installation used by the web server, not merely by a different command-line PHP binary.
The service works manually but not after reboot
- Run
systemctl status multicraftafter boot and read the reported exit reason. - Confirm that
/etc/systemd/system/multicraft.servicehas mode644and references the same installation path and user used by the manual start command. - Use
systemctl start multicraftto reproduce the failure under systemd, then inspectmulticraft.log.
Security and operational checklist
- Delete
install.phpimmediately after the panel installation is verified. - Change the default
adminpassword before creating servers or sharing panel access. - Use a strong, unique daemon password and protect both configuration files from unnecessary read access.
- Restrict MySQL exposure with host-based permissions and firewall rules; do not expose port
3306broadly when only a few VPS addresses need it. - Run Minecraft under a dedicated non-root Linux user. The setup script can create that user, and file ownership should match it.
- Keep the panel, daemon and operating system patched according to the versions you have deployed.
- Back up the panel database and Minecraft worlds separately. A database backup restores control metadata; it does not replace the world files stored on each daemon host.
- Monitor disk space, Java process health and the daemon logs so a full filesystem or stopped daemon is detected before players report an outage.
What a successful installation looks like
You have a working installation when the panel login succeeds, the default administrator password has been changed, install.php is gone, the daemon remains running manually and through systemd, and the panel shows that daemon as available. Settings → Update Minecraft should be able to place the selected server files on the daemon, and Servers → Create Server should create an instance that starts with Java under the intended Minecraft user. In a multi-host deployment, each daemon should appear separately with a unique ID and a shared, reachable MySQL backend.
