Install the standard infiSTAR ArmA 3 package by downloading it from the infiSTAR server dashboard, extracting the archive, editing infiSTAR_config.sqf, creating a3_infiSTAR.pbo from the supplied a3_infiSTAR folder, and deploying it through your host’s server-mod controls. The password in the infiSTAR configuration must exactly match serverCommandPassword in the server’s Config.cfg. The separate Vision client has different files and a Vision-specific startup parameter, so identify your download before copying any instructions.
Playing with friends? Godlike.Host runs hosted Arma 3 servers from 10 data-center locations, with free DDoS protection.
What you need before installing
Have these items ready before changing the server:
- Access to the dedicated server’s files and startup settings, or a hosting panel that exposes equivalent file and server-mod controls.
- The infiSTAR package downloaded through the server dashboard’s infiSTAR download area.
- The administrator UID values that the package expects in
AdminUID(s). - A text editor that preserves plain-text configuration files.
- A current backup of
Config.cfg, the mission files you may edit, and the original infiSTAR archive. - A planned maintenance window. Stop the server before replacing files, then restart it after configuration and deployment.
Do not publish administrator UIDs together with passwords, and never post a real server-command password in a screenshot, support request, or public log.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIdentify the package: standard ArmA 3 or Vision
infiSTAR distributes a standard ArmA 3 admin-tools and anti-hack package separately from the Vision client. Their names, folders, and startup instructions are not interchangeable.
| Download | What to look for | Installation guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Standard ArmA 3 package | A structure containing @infiSTAR_A3, an addons directory, and the a3_infiSTAR folder. |
Configure infiSTAR_config.sqf, create a3_infiSTAR.pbo, then deploy according to the package instructions and your host’s server-mod controls. |
| Vision client | Files and folders named for Vision, such as @infiSTAR_A3_vision. |
Use the Vision instructions supplied with that download. The FAQ documents -serverMod=@infiSTAR_A3_vision; for Vision; it is not a universal launch parameter for the standard package. |
Release archives can change their folder names or include additional files. If the current archive’s README differs from the path below, follow the README for that release rather than forcing an older layout.

What infiSTAR provides
The vendor describes infiSTAR ArmA 3 as an in-game administration panel combined with anti-hack tools. Its product material discusses controls for players, vehicles, and buildings, and notes that the package includes ArmA 3 Anti-Hack and Admin-Tools with Vision free features. Treat those descriptions as product-level capabilities, not a promise that every button appears in every release or mission. Feature lists and commercial terms can change, so verify the live package description and the files in your account before planning a server around one particular feature.
Installation does not grant permission to every person who can join the server. Access is controlled by the administrator UID list and the package settings you configure. Keep those settings limited to trusted staff and review them whenever the staff roster changes.
Extract the archive and find the server files
- Stop the ArmA 3 server and make a backup of the existing server directory or at least its configuration, missions, logs, and active mod folders.
- Extract the downloaded archive without renaming its internal folders.
- For the standard package, open the path identified in the infiSTAR FAQ:
infiSTAR.de_A3SERVER_ARMA3_FOLDER@infiSTAR_A3addonsa3_infiSTAR
SERVER_ARMA3_FOLDER represents the server-directory placeholder used in the archive; it is not a literal folder name that must be created. The exact top-level directory can vary between releases, but the important relationship is @infiSTAR_A3addonsa3_infiSTAR.
Before editing anything, confirm that infiSTAR_config.sqf is inside the a3_infiSTAR folder. If you cannot find that file, you may have opened the Vision download, extracted only part of the archive, or received a release with a changed layout. Check the included instructions instead of downloading a random copy from a community upload.
Configure infiSTAR_config.sqf
Open the configuration file in a plain-text editor. The infiSTAR FAQ’s instruction is explicit:
“Open the
infiSTAR_config.sqffile and add your AdminUID(s), then configure the different settings for your server. – do not edit other files.”Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.Rank #2

— infiSTAR FAQ
Use the variable names, brackets, quotation marks, and comments already present in your release. Configuration syntax can differ between versions, so do not replace the entire file with a sample copied from an older tutorial.
Add administrator UIDs
- Locate the setting labelled
AdminUIDorAdminUIDsininfiSTAR_config.sqf. - Add each intended administrator using the exact format shown by the file’s comments or current instructions. Preserve separators and quotation marks.
- Check every character in each UID. A missing digit, extra space, or wrong identifier prevents that player from being recognized.
- Save the file in its original location and encoding. Do not rename it or move it outside the
a3_infiSTARfolder.
Only add people who should have administrative control. An infiSTAR admin account can expose actions that affect players, vehicles, buildings, and server operation, and the available features can change with the package version.
Review other package settings
The same file contains settings for the server. Change only options you understand and keep a copy of the original values. If a setting is not present in your release, do not invent a new variable based on a forum post; consult the package’s current documentation.
Set the server-command password correctly
infiSTAR’s server-command password must match the value named serverCommandPassword in the ArmA 3 server’s Config.cfg. Matching means the characters and capitalization are identical. If Config.cfg does not define that field, the infiSTAR instructions say to add it.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A configuration entry has this general form:
serverCommandPassword = "example-only-secret";
The value above is only a demonstration. Replace it with a long, private value in your own server and use the same value in the infiSTAR setting. Do not reuse the administrative login password for another service.
Do not confuse the two password settings
serverCommandPassword authorizes server-command communication used by the tools. passwordAdmin is a separate ArmA 3 server setting for administrative login. Bohemia’s configuration terminology treats them as different fields; changing one does not automatically set the other.

Verify the file and permissions
- Make sure you edited the
Config.cfgthat the active server instance actually loads, not a template or a second installation. - Keep one assignment for
serverCommandPasswordunless the current configuration format explicitly supports otherwise. - Ensure the server process can read the file after saving it.
- Keep the password out of screenshots, ticket attachments, and publicly shared startup commands.
Create a3_infiSTAR.pbo
The standard FAQ instructs you to turn the a3_infiSTAR folder into a PBO named a3_infiSTAR.pbo. A PBO is the packaged addon file that ArmA 3 loads from an addons directory.
- Use a PBO-packing utility that supports ArmA 3 addon folders. The official FAQ does not mandate a particular commercial utility.
- Select the folder named
a3_infiSTARas the source, rather than selecting its parentaddonsdirectory. - Set the output name to exactly
a3_infiSTAR.pbo. - Open or inspect the resulting archive and confirm that the expected infiSTAR files are at its root, not nested inside an extra
a3_infiSTARa3_infiSTARdirectory. - Place the finished PBO in the
@infiSTAR_A3addonsdirectory required by your release.
Do not alter unrelated files in the package while packing it. Keep the unmodified archive as a recovery copy, and retain your edited configuration separately so an update can be compared before deployment.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Deploy the mod and configure startup
There is no single startup command that applies to every dedicated-server host, operating system, panel, and infiSTAR release. Some providers expose a server-mod field; others require a command-line parameter or a profile setting. Use the current package instructions and the controls supplied by your host.
- Upload or copy the complete
@infiSTAR_A3directory, including itsaddonsa3_infiSTAR.pbo, to the server location used for server-side mods. - Enable that directory in the provider’s server-mod control or the server’s startup configuration, using the syntax required by that host.
- Check that the active instance points to the same installation whose
Config.cfgyou edited. - Save the panel or startup configuration, then perform a full server restart.
If you downloaded Vision instead, follow its own startup instructions. The documented Vision parameter is -serverMod=@infiSTAR_A3_vision;. Do not paste that parameter into a standard-package setup simply because the names look similar.
When a hosting panel hides the command line
Ask the provider which field enables server-side mods and where its active Config.cfg resides. A panel may call the setting “server mods,” “additional mods,” or something else, and a restart may be required before changes are applied. If the provider does not give file or startup access, you cannot complete the deployment by editing local game files alone.
For a self-managed dedicated server, root or administrator access lets you place the mod and inspect the process arguments directly. For a managed host, the panel may simplify uploads but hide the working directory, profile, or command line. In either case, the important comparison is not the operating system label; it is whether you can edit the active files and enable the correct server-side mod. Hosting panels differ, so ask for those exact locations rather than assuming a tutorial for another provider applies.

Apply mission integration only when required
Most installation work belongs in the server mod and its configuration, not in every mission. The infiSTAR FAQ also contains mission instructions for Exile setups, including references to infiSTAR_AdminMenu.hpp, call.fsm, and an include in description.ext.
Treat those edits as conditional:
- Check the current package files and instructions to confirm that your release calls for them.
- Confirm that the mission is actually an Exile mission or another supported setup requiring those files.
- Back up the mission before editing
description.extor replacing a function-state-machine file. - Merge an include into an existing file carefully; do not delete unrelated mission definitions.
- Test the mission after each change so a syntax error can be traced to one edit.
Do not present the Exile procedure as a universal requirement. A standard package on a different mission may need no mission-file change, while a release-specific integration may require files not named here.
Restart and verify the installation
- Stop the server completely rather than relying on a mission restart.
- Confirm that the PBO, configuration, and startup setting are present on disk.
- Start the server and wait for it to finish loading.
- Join with an account whose UID was added to
infiSTAR_config.sqf. - Open the admin interface using the key or action documented by your package release and verify that expected controls appear.
- Test a harmless administrative action first. Avoid experimenting with destructive commands on a live player population.
For Vision, the FAQ specifically calls for a restart after setup. A restart is also the safest way to ensure the standard server has loaded a newly packed PBO and the revised configuration.
Plan updates and rollbacks
Because folder layouts, variable names, included files, and panel interfaces can change, treat every infiSTAR update as a small migration rather than a simple overwrite. Download the new archive through the vendor’s current dashboard, preserve the old working directory, and compare the new README and infiSTAR_config.sqf with your saved copy before making changes. Reapply only settings that the new release still documents.
- Record the currently working package version, active mod path, and server instance.
- Back up
Config.cfg, the mission, logs, the edited configuration, and the old PBO. - Stop the server before replacing the package.
- Inspect the new archive for a changed product name, path, or startup instruction.
- Make the required UID and server-setting changes in the new configuration, then repack only the folder named by that release.
- Restart during a maintenance window and verify administrator access before reopening the server.
If the update fails, restore the previous package and configuration as a unit, restart, and then review the RPT and infiSTAR logs. This rollback is safer than mixing an old PBO with a new configuration or leaving two similarly named mod directories enabled.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshoot the common failure modes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Nothing from infiSTAR loads | The wrong product, wrong directory, disabled server mod, or malformed PBO. | Confirm whether the download is standard or Vision, verify @infiSTAR_A3addonsa3_infiSTAR.pbo, inspect the PBO for an extra nesting level, and check the host’s active mod setting. |
| The server starts, but an approved administrator has no access | The UID is incorrect, the file was edited in the wrong installation, or the server was not fully restarted. | Compare the UID character by character, confirm the loaded Config.cfg and package path, then restart. |
| Server-command or authentication errors appear | The infiSTAR password and serverCommandPassword differ, or the server does not define the field. |
Compare both values exactly, add the field if absent, save the active configuration, and restart. |
| An administrator login works but mission features are missing | The mission requires a release-specific integration that was not applied. | Read the current package instructions for your mission type. For Exile, check whether the supplied instructions call for infiSTAR_AdminMenu.hpp, call.fsm, or a description.ext include. |
| The panel reports success but the server behaves unchanged | The panel may be launching another server instance or writing to a template rather than the active files. | Identify the instance’s real working directory, active Config.cfg, and startup profile with the host. |
| The server stops during startup | A malformed configuration line, damaged PBO, or mission-file syntax error. | Restore the last backup, review the server RPT and infiSTAR logs, and reapply one change at a time. |
| The problem appears after an infiSTAR update | Folder structure or configuration variables changed between releases. | Compare the new archive’s README and configuration with your saved copy. Reapply only settings that the new release still documents. |
The historical community material commonly directs administrators to the server RPT and infiSTAR logs. Those logs remain useful for locating load errors, but current vendor support instructions should take precedence over old repository guidance because package behavior and filenames change.

Operate the tools safely after installation
- Limit
AdminUID(s)to trusted staff and remove former administrators promptly. - Keep
serverCommandPasswordprivate, unique, and separate frompasswordAdminand hosting-panel credentials. - Back up the working configuration before each package update.
- Read the release notes and included instructions before replacing a PBO; never assume an older configuration file is still valid.
- Test updates on a staging server or an empty maintenance instance when possible.
- Review RPT and infiSTAR logs after updates and after any unexpected administrative behavior.
- Do not copy a Vision startup parameter or an Exile mission edit into a standard installation unless the current package explicitly requires it.
Installation checklist
- Downloaded the package from the infiSTAR server dashboard.
- Identified standard ArmA 3 versus Vision.
- Backed up the server configuration, mission, logs, and original archive.
- Located
@infiSTAR_A3addonsa3_infiSTARin the extracted standard package. - Added the intended administrator UIDs in
infiSTAR_config.sqf. - Changed only documented infiSTAR settings and left unrelated package files untouched.
- Set an identical private value for the infiSTAR password and
serverCommandPasswordin the activeConfig.cfg. - Created
a3_infiSTAR.pbofrom thea3_infiSTARfolder. - Enabled the correct server-mod directory through the host’s controls.
- Applied mission edits only when the current package and mission require them.
- Restarted the server and checked access with an authorized UID.
- Reviewed logs if the addon, authentication, or mission integration failed.
This process keeps the version-sensitive parts—startup syntax, mission integration, and folder names—tied to the instructions shipped with your exact download while preserving the stable requirements: configure the administrator UIDs, match the server-command password, build the named PBO, and restart the correct server instance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I put the infiSTAR files?
For the standard package, extract the archive and locate @infiSTAR_A3addonsa3_infiSTAR. Configure the files there, create a3_infiSTAR.pbo from that folder, and place the finished PBO in the release’s @infiSTAR_A3addons directory. Do not assume the Vision client uses the same path.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
How do I add my admin UID?
Open infiSTAR_config.sqf inside the standard package’s a3_infiSTAR folder. Find the AdminUID or AdminUIDs setting and follow the exact syntax, quotation marks, and separators shown in your release. Save it in place, then fully restart the server.
Why does infiSTAR need a server command password?
The package uses a server-command password for its server communication. The value in the infiSTAR configuration must exactly match serverCommandPassword in the active Config.cfg. This is separate from passwordAdmin, which controls ArmA 3 administrative login.
Do I need to edit the mission files?
Not always. The standard setup centers on the server mod and its configuration. The FAQ lists conditional Exile integration involving infiSTAR_AdminMenu.hpp, call.fsm, and a description.ext include. Apply those edits only when the current package and your mission instructions require them.
Can I use -serverMod=@infiSTAR_A3_vision; for standard infiSTAR?
No. That parameter is documented for the separate Vision client. Standard ArmA 3 deployment depends on the package version and your host’s server-mod controls. Use the current standard-package instructions instead of copying a Vision command.
Recommended Free Tools
What should I do if the server panel says the mod is installed but nothing changes?
Confirm that the panel is starting the intended server instance, writing to the active working directory, and loading the Config.cfg you edited. Check the enabled server-mod path, verify the PBO is not nested incorrectly, restart fully, and review the server RPT and infiSTAR logs.
What should I back up before an infiSTAR update?
Keep the old package, Config.cfg, edited infiSTAR_config.sqf, mission files, logs, and the current PBO. Compare the new release’s README and configuration before reapplying settings, because folder structures and variables can change.
The Bottom Line
Install the exact package you downloaded: configure AdminUID(s) in infiSTAR_config.sqf, match its server-command password to serverCommandPassword, pack a3_infiSTAR as a3_infiSTAR.pbo, enable the correct server-side mod, and restart the active instance. Keep Vision startup parameters and Exile mission edits conditional on the files and instructions for your release.
