Check whether your Android device is supported
DroidDeck’s project README lists these requirements. They are project-stated compatibility requirements, not results of independent device testing.

- Android: Android 9 or newer.
- GPU: Qualcomm Adreno 730 or newer, or an Adreno 8-series GPU.
- Not supported, according to the project: Mali, Xclipse, PowerVR, and Adreno 710 GPUs.
- Root: Not required.
Check the Android version and GPU for your specific device before downloading. A device name alone is not enough to establish compatibility if its GPU or Android version differs by model or region. See the DroidDeck project README for the project’s current requirements.
Download DroidDeck from the official project
The project says it has no standalone website and warns against downloading APKs from websites claiming to be the DroidDeck team. Use the official DroidDeck GitHub Releases page instead.

Install DroidDeck and launch Steam
- Download the APK from the official GitHub Releases page and install it on your Android device. If Android asks you to allow installation from that source, follow the device’s prompt for the installer you used.
- Open DroidDeck and install the Linux runtime from within the app.
- Before the first Steam launch, turn off Restrict child processes in Android Developer options if the setting is available. The README says that on Android 12 and 13, if the option is missing, the first Steam launch offers a Fix it for me button to help automate setup. The project does not describe this helper for other Android versions or device builds.
- Press Play in DroidDeck, then sign in to Steam. Steam downloads content on its first launch.
DroidDeck estimates that the Linux runtime uses about 3 GB of storage. Installing Desktop & apps is optional and is described as an additional step for desktop and emulator use; the project estimates about 1.1 GB more for desktop and emulators. These are approximate project estimates, not independent measurements. Details are in the README.
Select Steam Deck controller mode
DroidDeck describes its Steam Deck controller mode as software-emulated controls for Steam sessions; the documented setup does not require pairing a separate Steam Deck or Bluetooth controller. The project says Steam reads the pad as a Steam Deck controller, with a Quick Access button and the Android device’s gyro. Games receive Steam Input virtual pads, so Steam Input layouts can be used. On dual-screen handhelds, the second screen can provide the Deck’s back grips and trackpads. These are project-described features, not a guarantee that every game will behave identically.

- Open Steam in DroidDeck.
- Look for Touch & controls under the Steam page or settings, then open Controller. The repository progress log documents this path, but labels may vary by version.
- Select Steam Deck controller. The project’s progress log identifies it as the default. It also lists Xbox 360 controller as an alternative.
If the labels differ in your installed version, look in Steam’s Touch & controls settings for the controller selection. The project materials do not establish game-by-game compatibility or promise identical recognition across titles. The controller options and described capabilities appear in the project’s release notes and repository documentation.
