Install the free standalone Arma 3 Server tool through SteamCMD (AppID 233780), then add the Creator DLC data supplied by the pack developer. For packs that support the server branch, update with app_update 233780 -beta creatordlc validate; for packs with a published Workshop compatibility item, download that item instead. Start the server with the DLC folder in its mod list—for example, Global Mobilization uses -mod=gm.

This procedure applies to a dedicated Arma 3 server installed with the standalone server package, not to a player running a listen server from the game client. Prepare the following:
- A machine or managed server where you can install and update SteamCMD and run the Arma 3 Server process.
- A separate server account for SteamCMD. The official dedicated-server guidance states that the standalone package is free and does not require ownership of the regular Arma 3 game.
- Enough storage for the base server files, the selected Creator DLC data, missions, logs and any other approved mods.
- Administrative access to stop the server, edit its startup parameters and allow the required game and query traffic through the host firewall.
- The current installation instructions for the specific Creator DLC pack. Branch names, compatibility items and folder names are pack-specific and can change when a developer updates its server support.
Keep the server account and installation directory dedicated to this instance. A predictable path makes it easier to identify the DLC folder in startup scripts and to back up the profile and configuration files.

Choose how the Creator DLC data reaches the server
Creator DLC data is optional and is not included in a normal Arma 3 installation. There are two supported distribution patterns: a Creator DLC server branch in the standalone server app, or a Workshop compatibility item published by the DLC developer.

These IDs identify compatibility data, not a universal installation command. Use an item only when the DLC developer currently publishes it for server use, and check that the downloaded files form the directory layout expected by the pack.
Install the standalone Arma 3 Server with SteamCMD
- Install SteamCMD. Use the SteamCMD build appropriate for your server operating system and place it in a directory with write permission for the server account.
- Set a dedicated install directory. In SteamCMD, select a path reserved for this server. Do not mix it with a desktop Arma 3 installation; separating the files prevents client mods and profiles from being copied into the dedicated instance.
- Log in with the server account. Use the account and credentials selected for server administration. Keep those credentials out of public startup scripts and service logs.
- Install AppID 233780. The free standalone package is identified by Steam AppID 233780. Let SteamCMD finish the download before adding Creator DLC data.
- Validate the base files. Run the SteamCMD validation option after the initial download. Validation checks the installation and replaces files that are missing or damaged.
- Record the final path. Your launch script, profile directory, log collection and backup plan should all refer to this same server root. If you later use Workshop compatibility data, download it into the location specified by the DLC developer rather than an unrelated desktop Workshop folder.
Stop any running server process before installing or validating files. Updating files while the server is active can leave a mixed build in memory and make the next launch appear to have missing or mismatched addons.

Install a pack through the Creator DLC server branch
Use this route only when the selected Creator DLC pack documents server-branch support. A documented Global Mobilization implementation uses:
app_update 233780 -beta creatordlc validate- Stop the server. Close the Arma 3 Server process cleanly so SteamCMD can replace files.
- Open SteamCMD in the same server directory. The command must target the standalone server installation that your startup script launches.
- Run the branch update. Execute
app_update 233780 -beta creatordlc validate. The-beta creatordlcswitch selects the Creator DLC server branch in this implementation, whilevalidatechecks the resulting files. - Confirm the pack’s folder. Global Mobilization’s documented launch folder is
gm. Other Creator DLC packs can use different names; do not substitutegmfor another pack. - Check the update result. If SteamCMD reports files were changed, wait for it to finish and inspect the server directory before restarting. If the developer has changed its branch instructions, follow those current instructions rather than assuming this example applies universally.
The branch command is an implementation example documented for Global Mobilization, not a promise that every Creator DLC pack uses the same branch or receives every update through it. Recheck the pack’s current server notes whenever you install a new pack or encounter a build mismatch.

Install Workshop compatibility data when that is the supported route
Some Creator DLC developers publish a Workshop compatibility item containing the DLC data needed by servers and clients. This is an alternative to the server branch, not an additional copy you should install automatically.
- Identify the official item. Match the pack name and Workshop ID published by the DLC developer. For the listed examples, the IDs are 1776428269 for Global Mobilization, 2477276806 for S.O.G. Prairie Fire and 2503886780 for CSLA Iron Curtain.
- Download it to the server. Use the Workshop method supported by your hosting environment and place the resulting content where the server can load it. A managed host may expose a Workshop-content field instead of a shell command; the important requirement is that the item is downloaded to the same server instance you launch.
- Inspect the directory layout. Compatibility items can create a mod-style folder. Confirm the actual folder name and location before writing the startup parameter. Do not infer a folder name from the Workshop title.
- Use the developer’s launch setting. Add the compatibility folder to the server’s approved mod list exactly as documented. If the item is intended to replace branch data, do not load both routes unless the developer explicitly says they can coexist.
- Update the item with the server stopped. Restart only after the Workshop download has completed and the folder contains the new files.
Workshop compatibility is pack-dependent. If a developer does not publish a compatibility item, installing an unrelated Workshop download will not make the DLC available and can introduce missing-addon or signature errors.

Enable the DLC in the server startup parameters
Installing files does not enable them. The server launch command must include the DLC’s mod folder along with the other mods approved for that instance.
Global Mobilization example
The documented Global Mobilization parameter is:
-mod=gmPlace this entry in the same startup configuration that contains your normal server parameters. If your server already loads other approved mods, preserve them and add the Creator DLC folder in the format your launcher accepts. The exact separator depends on the launcher or script you use; the folder name itself must match the directory created by the branch or compatibility download.

Use each pack’s own folder name and launch instructions. Do not assume that every pack uses -mod=gm, and do not point -mod= at a Workshop item ID unless the developer’s instructions explicitly require that form.
Check the path before starting
- Verify that the path is relative to the server root when the launcher expects a relative mod name.
- Verify capitalization and punctuation on case-sensitive file systems.
- Keep the DLC entry with the server’s approved mod list so it is loaded consistently after reboots.
- Remove stale or duplicate copies if the server has previously used a different installation route; two copies of the same data can make diagnosis harder.
Configure networking, profiles and permissions
Creator DLC does not replace the normal dedicated-server configuration. Apply the official Arma 3 dedicated-server guidance for ports, server profiles, server configuration, mission selection and firewall rules.

- Ports: Open and forward the ports selected by your server configuration on the host firewall and, where applicable, on the router or provider network.
- Profile and logs: Give the server account write access to its profile and log directories. Logs are essential when the DLC folder is present but an addon cannot be found.
- Configuration: Keep the server name, password, mission rotation, difficulty and allowed-mod policy in the same configuration used for the non-DLC instance.
- Service operation: If the server runs as a service or managed-host process, update the service’s executable and parameter fields—not only an interactive shortcut.
A managed host can simplify SteamCMD scheduling and network administration, but you must verify that the provider supports the current Creator DLC branch or Workshop workflow. Provider-specific automation and affiliate terms vary, so confirm those details with the host before committing the deployment.

- Start with only the intended DLC and approved dependencies. Temporarily remove unrelated experimental mods so an error can be attributed to the Creator DLC installation.
- Read the startup log. Look for the DLC folder being discovered and for addon-loading messages. A path error at startup usually means the
-mod=value does not match the installed directory. - Load the intended mission. Test a mission that actually uses the Creator DLC content rather than a base-game mission that could start without loading the pack.
- Connect with an eligible client. Use a client that owns the DLC or has the applicable compatibility data. This distinguishes a server installation problem from a client entitlement problem.
- Check the in-game result. Confirm that the expected units, objects, sounds or terrain are available and that the mission reaches its playable state.
- Review the log after disconnecting. Search for missing addons, signature errors, wrong installation paths and version mismatches. Save the log with the date and server build before changing files.
Test again after every branch or compatibility-item update. Creator DLC updates and hotfixes can arrive later than base-game updates because external collaborations require additional testing, so a previously working combination can need a synchronized client and server update.
What DLC ownership means for the server and players
Server administrators
The dedicated-server operator does not need to own the Creator DLC. The server can install the supplied data and advertise missions that use it, provided the pack’s server distribution method is followed.
Players who own the pack
Owners can use the Creator DLC content subject to the pack’s normal licensing and multiplayer rules. Their client still needs to be on a compatible build with the server.
Players who do not own the pack
Creator DLC data is absent from a normal Arma 3 installation. When the developer publishes a compatibility item, a non-owner may subscribe to that item and join supported multiplayer content. That does not grant full ownership: access to Creator DLC terrains remains exclusive to owners, and other restrictions can apply. If a player receives a missing-content or entitlement message, installing the server branch again will not change the player’s license status.
Keep the installation maintained
- Stop the server before updates. Never replace branch or Workshop files underneath a running process.
- Update the same route you originally selected. A branch installation should continue to use the documented branch command; a compatibility-item installation should update that item through the supported Workshop method.
- Use validation when diagnosing corruption. Run SteamCMD’s
validateoption with the relevant AppID and branch settings after an interrupted download or unexplained missing-file error. - Keep client and server builds aligned. Ask players to update the same Creator DLC data route and version expected by the server before troubleshooting mission errors.
- Back up configuration and profiles. Preserve startup parameters, server configuration, mission lists and logs separately from downloaded binaries so a reinstall does not erase your operational settings.
- Document the chosen route. Record the pack, branch or Workshop ID, installed folder name, startup parameter and update date. This prevents a later administrator from installing a second route by mistake.
Troubleshooting common failures
The server starts, but the DLC content is missing
Confirm that the DLC data was installed into the same server root used by the launch script. Then check the -mod= value and folder spelling. Files can be present yet inactive when the mod parameter points to a parent directory, an old copy or the wrong pack folder.
SteamCMD finishes, but the branch command does not provide the expected pack
The creatordlc branch is not a universal guarantee for every pack. Recheck whether that pack currently supplies server data through the branch or through a Workshop compatibility item. If its instructions changed, remove the obsolete route and install the newly documented one with the server stopped.
Players report signature or missing-addon errors
Compare the server’s installed folder and build with the client’s DLC route. A client missing the compatibility item, a server loading duplicate copies, or a partially completed update can all produce these symptoms. Validate the server files, update the client through the same supported route and test with unrelated mods disabled.
The server loads a mission but clients cannot join
First separate network and content causes. Verify the configured ports and firewall rules, then inspect the log for missing addons or signature failures. Test with an eligible client that owns the pack or has the applicable compatibility data; a non-owner cannot bypass terrain restrictions through server settings.

The Workshop item downloaded but the server cannot find it
Inspect the downloaded directory and use the actual mod folder in the startup parameter. Workshop titles and numeric IDs are identifiers for downloading; they are not necessarily the folder name that belongs after -mod=. If the provider stores Workshop content outside the server root, copy or map it only according to the developer’s documented layout.
An update breaks a previously working server
Stop the process, record the new log, validate the installation and check whether the client build changed at the same time. Creator DLC hotfixes may require coordinated updates. Avoid mixing an older compatibility folder with newer branch files while testing; restore the single route documented for the pack.
