Start with Huawei AppGallery. If the app you need is not listed, check Petal Search and verify whether its result leads to AppGallery, the developer’s official site, a third-party store, a Quick App or a web version. You can also transfer apps from an older phone with Phone Clone, but a transferred app is not guaranteed to work. Menus and availability vary by model, software version, region and app.
1. Search for the app in AppGallery
AppGallery is Huawei’s official app distribution platform. Open AppGallery, search for the app by its exact name, and follow the listing’s install prompts.

If AppGallery is missing, Huawei’s UK instructions say to open Huawei’s AppGallery page in the phone’s browser, download the client and follow the on-screen prompts. Huawei also describes using the web version’s download control. Use the current Huawei support site for your region and follow the prompts shown on your device: screens and availability can differ.
2. If the app is missing, inspect Petal Search
Search the app name in Petal Search. Huawei says it prioritizes AppGallery results, followed by official websites and then third-party app-store sources; results can also include web links and sources marked as possibly incompatible. Check where a result will take you before proceeding, since availability and result sources can change.

- AppGallery listing: Opens the Huawei store listing for installation.
- Official website: Takes you to the developer’s site, where a download or web version may be offered.
- Third-party store: Comes from outside Huawei’s official store. Treat the source cautiously; Huawei does not guarantee the security of third-party apps.
- Quick App or web link: May let you use the service without installing a conventional app. Check that it supports the feature you need.
- Compatibility warning: Indicates that the source may not work with your device. Do not assume that an install prompt means the app will function.
3. Try a Quick App or the service’s website
Some services can be opened as Quick Apps without a conventional installation, while a web result may lead to the official site in your browser. These options can be useful when no compatible native app is available. They may not include every feature: Huawei specifically notes that some browser-based banking and map functions may be unavailable. Check the feature you rely on before choosing the web route.
4. Transfer an app from an older phone
Phone Clone can transfer apps when you migrate from an older phone, but transfer is not a compatibility guarantee. Huawei says some transferred apps may not work correctly. If one fails, look for a current version through AppGallery or Petal Search rather than assuming the copied version is supported.

5. Troubleshoot a failed Petal Search installation
If an installation is blocked, first confirm your phone model and EMUI version. Huawei’s example permission paths below are version-specific and may not match your menus.
Check the external-install permission
For EMUI 10.0.1, Huawei gives this example path:
- Open Settings > Apps > Apps.
- Select Petal Search > App info > Permissions > In-app installations.
- Allow the installation if that option is available and appropriate for the source you chose.
Huawei also gives this alternative path: Settings > Security > More settings > Install apps from external sources > Petal Search > Allow app installs. The exact wording and location can vary by EMUI version.

If permission is already allowed
A permission setting will not fix every installation failure. Huawei lists a damaged download, an incompatible device or package, and the absence of an HMS Core-compatible version as other possible causes. Retry a fresh download from the source you intended to use, and check whether the app supports your device and Huawei’s services.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.6. Understand the risk of third-party APKs
Huawei Support warns: “Huawei does not guarantee the security of apps downloaded from any third-party sources.” That warning does not mean every external download is malicious, but it does mean Huawei is not guaranteeing its security. Prefer AppGallery or the developer’s own official source when available, and do not treat a third-party store as safe without independent evidence.

An APK may install without making the app usable. Installing a file does not establish that the app is compatible with your phone, region or software, or that it has the services it needs. The cited Huawei guidance does not establish that Google apps or services will work simply because an APK installs.
