How to Install and Set Up a REDTIGER ZP1 Dash Cam

A practical REDTIGER ZP1 setup guide covering safe mounting, cable routing, power choices, first-time checks, and the model details to confirm in the manual.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Install the REDTIGER ZP1 (also identified as ZoomPix 1) by mounting the front and rear cameras, routing their cables safely, and connecting the included vehicle power lead. Use the ZP1’s own manual for exact controls, storage requirements, recording settings, and Wi-Fi pairing: those model-specific details are not established by REDTIGER’s general installation guidance.

Check the box and identify the ZP1 manual

Before mounting anything, compare the parts in your box with the included manual. Package contents can vary by seller and market. One marketplace listing describes a vehicle charger and rear-camera cable, and says the memory card and hardwire kit are sold separately; treat those details as specific to that listing, not a guarantee for every ZP1 package. Check the listing details against what you received.

The FCC filing record identifies a user manual for the REDTIGER ZP1/ZoomPix 1, but the manual page is not available in that record. For exact ZP1 button presses, menu names, supported card specifications, and accessories, use the in-box manual or ask REDTIGER support rather than borrowing instructions for another REDTIGER model. Plan camera positions and cable routes

Mount the front camera

REDTIGER’s general advice is to place the camera near the rearview mirror without significantly obstructing the driver’s view. Position it so the lens has a clear view through the windshield, and check applicable local rules for windshield-mounted devices. REDTIGER FAQ: mounting and safety.

REDTIGER ZP1 Telephoto+Wide Dash Cam, 4X Zoom, STARVIS 2, EIS Night Vision | 100ft Plate Recognition, Dashcam Front and Rear Camera with Dual HDR, 5.8GHz WiFi, Touch&Voice Control, Image Stabilization
  • [Front Dual Lens (Tele+Wide) + Rear Coverage] Capture front telephoto zoom for distant plates, front wide-angle for the full road scene, and rear 1080P footage behind your bumper—all at the same time. When merging lanes or backing up in a parking lot, the three cameras record every angle without switching views. Having synchronized front zoom details, wide road context, and rear blind-spot coverage helps provide complete incident evidence and reduces guesswork during insurance claims.
  • [Dual Telephoto Modes with EIS + HDR] Manually switch between two telephoto modes optimized for different conditions. Telephoto + EIS helps reduce motion blur on bumpy highways, making distant plates more readable at speed. Telephoto + HDR balances strong oncoming glare at night, helping prevent washout so plate details stay visible. When driving on rough roads or facing headlight backlight, toggle to the right mode to capture sharp, clear distant footage for your incident records.
  • [STARVIS 2 Night Vision on Both Front Lenses] Both telephoto and wide-angle lenses feature STARVIS 2 with dual HDR—the wide lens uses the IMX675 sensor for enhanced low-light sensitivity. In tunnels, under flickering lights, or on dark streets, each lens adjusts exposure independently. The telephoto captures distant plates with minimized grain; the wide-angle records the full road scene with balanced lighting. This car camera delivers uncompromised range and clarity after dark.
  • [Voice, Touch & 5.8GHz WiFi,Instant Evidence Access] Say "Lock the video" to instantly save the current clip without taking your eyes off the road. Tap to enable 5.8GHz WiFi for up to 4x faster transfers¹ vs 2.4GHz WiFi. Open the app and download zoomed telephoto footage to your phone in seconds. After a lane change dispute or during a traffic stop, pull over and transfer the evidence right at the scene. This WiFi dash cam keeps reliable incident footage in hand when you need it most.
  • [24/7 Parking Guard*] This car security camera provides true 24/7 parking mode: it records at a low frame rate, reduces power draw, and runs for hours. While parked, the telephoto lens reads distant license plates. On any impact, the G‑sensor instantly locks the clip. Park anywhere – dark alleys, busy lots, or your driveway – and rest assured. The camera saves the critical zoomed detail you need for claims. (*Hardwire kit requires a separate purchase)

Place the rear camera

Choose a position that gives the rear camera a clear view for your vehicle and camera configuration. Before fastening it, check the view from the driver’s seat and plan where the cable will run to the front unit. The route depends on the vehicle; avoid obstructing visibility or interfering with doors, hinges, or other moving parts.

Route cables safely

Where the vehicle allows, tuck cables under trim, but do not force trim removal or route wiring through unsafe areas. Keep every cable clear of airbag deployment paths, moving parts, and high-heat surfaces. Vehicle layouts differ, so consult vehicle-specific service information or a qualified installer if you cannot confirm a safe route.

Choose a power method

Power option Best suited to Important limitation
Vehicle accessory socket, using the included charger if supplied Simpler installation for recording while driving REDTIGER says cigarette-lighter power does not support parking monitoring. Whether the socket stays powered after the ignition is off depends on the vehicle.
Compatible hardwire kit or other approved ignition-off supply Parking recording, if the ZP1 supports the required mode Confirm the exact ZP1-compatible kit and power method first. Installation involves vehicle electrical circuits.

REDTIGER’s installation guide describes the broad workflow for its dash cams—mounting the front unit, mounting the rear camera, concealing cables, and choosing vehicle-charger or hardwire power—but its guidance is not a ZP1-specific wiring specification. Read REDTIGER’s installation guide.

Do not assume that a hardwire kit or parking feature from another model works with the ZP1. Verify the camera’s supported parking behavior, the kit connector, and the required power method in the ZP1 manual or with REDTIGER support. If fuse-box work is unfamiliar, use a qualified automotive installer rather than guessing at vehicle circuits.

Complete the first-time setup using the ZP1 manual

  1. Connect the cameras and power. Use the supplied cables and the manual’s connection diagram; do not assume another REDTIGER model uses the same ports or sequence.
  2. Prepare storage. Check the manual for the ZP1’s required card speed, capacity, and endurance rating before buying or inserting a card. Follow its instructions to format or initialize the card in the camera, if required.
  3. Set the date and time. Use the ZP1’s documented controls and verify the displayed time before relying on recordings.
  4. Choose recording options. Set the desired recording and camera options using the exact menu names and steps in the ZP1 manual. The available settings and their labels are not established by REDTIGER’s general setup information.
  5. Pair the phone if desired. Follow the ZP1 manual for enabling camera Wi-Fi and for the network name and password. REDTIGER’s general app guidance is to turn on the camera’s Wi-Fi, join its network in the phone’s Wi-Fi settings, then open the REDTIGER app; the button sequence and credentials vary by model. A direct camera Wi-Fi connection is local and normally does not provide internet access. See REDTIGER’s general app guidance.

Check the installation before relying on it

  • Confirm that the front and rear views are clear and that neither camera obstructs the driver’s view.
  • Make a test recording and check that the views you expect are captured.
  • Check that the date and time are correct.
  • If you use the app, try viewing or downloading a clip while connected to the camera’s Wi-Fi.
  • Cycle the ignition and observe whether the camera loses power or continues operating. Do not infer parking-mode support from continued power alone; confirm the ZP1’s recording behavior in its manual.

Verify accessories and firmware by exact model

Before purchasing a memory card or hardwire kit, confirm its specifications and compatibility for the ZP1/ZoomPix 1 in the camera’s manual or with REDTIGER support. A listing that says an accessory is sold separately does not establish which models or specifications are compatible.

For firmware, use only an update explicitly intended for the exact ZP1 hardware/model, and follow REDTIGER’s instructions. Do not install firmware for a different REDTIGER camera based only on a similar appearance or feature set.
