Check controller and stick compatibility first
Compatibility is model-specific. KontrolFreek says its Performance Thumbsticks are primarily designed for standard PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One controllers, but its compatibility guide also lists additional fits, exceptions and models for which only certain products—or no Performance Thumbsticks—are listed. Check the KontrolFreek compatibility guide for your exact controller rather than extrapolating from a similar model.

Stock stick shape can matter as much as the controller name. For Xbox Elite and Elite Series 2, KontrolFreek says its Xbox Series X|S / One products generally fit both concave and domed sticks, except Low-rise products: those fit concave sticks but not domed ones. Confirm the stick shape and extender family before attempting to install anything.

How to install a flexible No-Slip Thumb Grip
- Turn the flexible grip inside out.
- Position it over the analog stick.
- Roll the grip right-side out so it sits on the stick.
- Look underneath and check that the whole grip is secured around the corners of the thumbstick, as KontrolFreek instructs in its No-Slip Thumb Grip installation guide.
These steps apply to the flexible grip style only; they are not instructions for a clip-on extender.

Installing and removing clip-on extenders
For a clip-on Performance Thumbstick, use the instructions supplied for that exact product and controller. The reviewed official sources establish compatibility information but do not publish a universal fitting or removal procedure, so do not treat a guessed prying, twisting or tool technique as manufacturer guidance. If the product’s instructions do not explain removal, contact its maker for product-specific advice before trying to take it off.
KontrolFreek’s Inferno Edition listing says the product “Snaps securely onto analog stick without damage.” That is KontrolFreek’s claim for that listed product, not a guarantee for every extender, controller or removal attempt. Its product page is here.

Check third-party accessory guidance for your controller
Some controller makers advise against third-party thumbstick accessories. SCUF says it does not recommend them for its thumbsticks because it cannot guarantee compatibility or that they will not cause damage. This warning is specific to SCUF products; check the guidance for your own controller before fitting an accessory.
