Choose an installation method

GOG Support Center answers its FAQ, “Do I need some launcher application to play my GOG games?” with: “No, you don’t need any additional apps or launchers.” That applies to the offline-installer route; GALAXY remains an optional way to install and manage games. Install a game with GOG GALAXY
- Download and install GOG GALAXY.
- Open GALAXY and select the game in your library.
- Click Install and follow any prompts shown by the client.
- When installation finishes, start the game from GALAXY or use its installed shortcut.
GALAXY can provide functions including automatic updates and cloud saves for supported games. GOG also describes achievements, multiplayer and matchmaking, and rollbacks as client features; availability varies by game. Check the GALAXY page for its current feature description.

- Sign in to your GOG account in a browser and open the game in your library.
- Choose DOWNLOAD OFFLINE BACKUP GAME INSTALLERS.
- Download every setup file listed for that game. A large game may be divided among several files.
- Open the folder where your browser saved the downloads and run the installer application.
- After installation, start the game from the shortcut created by the installer, if available. Otherwise, open the game’s installation folder and run its executable.
The installer file count and names differ by title, so use the files shown on that game’s library page rather than assuming one setup file is sufficient. GOG’s installation instructions cover both the library download and installation process.

Check Windows requirements before installing
There is no single Windows requirement for all GOG games. Check the individual game’s GOG product page for its minimum specifications, and install it natively on a computer that meets or exceeds those requirements. GOG’s system requirements guidance and user agreement direct users to the requirements for each product.
GALAXY has separate client requirements. GOG Support’s current requirements page, accessed October 3, 2026, lists Windows 10 64-bit or newer for GALAXY 2.1. It lists Windows 8 or newer with the latest system updates for GALAXY 2.0. These figures describe the client versions, not the Windows requirements for games; the page does not establish that GALAXY 2.0 is available for new downloads. See GOG GALAXY system requirements.

If GALAXY reports an E2 dependency error
For the specific GALAXY E2 error described as a failure to finalize an update, GOG says the client failed to install game dependencies. Its support article provides an error-specific workaround involving the client’s Dependencies-Temp folder:

- Rename
Dependencies-TemptoDependencies. If Windows asks whether to merge folders, follow the article’s instruction to merge.
Use this only for the documented E2 dependency failure, not as general Windows troubleshooting. If the workaround does not resolve that error, the same support article describes installing the affected game from its offline installers and then waiting for GALAXY to import it. GOG’s developer documentation notes that required Windows redistributables are installed by GALAXY and packaged with offline installers; see GOG’s redistributables documentation.
