Before adding anything, check compatibility with your installed game build and required frameworks, and back up your saves. The folder paths below are examples of where files go—not a guarantee that every installation uses the same root directory.
Before installing a mod
- Start the unmodded game once. Confirm it launches and runs before changing files.
- Check the game build. Compare the installed version with the mod page’s supported game version. Recheck after game updates.
- Read the individual project page. Confirm its format, dependencies, install steps, and removal instructions. A loader or framework may need to be installed before the mod itself.
- Back up your data. Copy the full Windows user-profile folder
AppDataRSDragonwildsSaved, including world and character data, to a safe location. Keep a copy of any downloaded archive and note its version. - Test incrementally. Install one unfamiliar mod at a time so you can identify the cause if something breaks.
The game left Early Access and launched on PC and consoles on September 15, 2026, according to Jagex’s launch announcement and the Steam store listing. The installation instructions here are for PC. The reviewed guidance does not establish that PC mods can be installed on console.

Choose an installation route by mod format

CurseForge describes app-managed installation for supported PAK and UE4SS projects, with installed mods managed through the game’s “My Mods” section. Its guide says RuneSchema projects and save files still require the individual project’s instructions. Check the project page for its current requirements rather than assuming that every download is supported by the app.

- Open the CurseForge app and select RuneScape: Dragonwilds.
- Find the project you want and review its supported game build, dependencies, and installation notes.
- Use the app’s install action for a supported PAK or UE4SS project.
- Launch the game through CurseForge or the official store launcher, as the project instructions direct.
- Open the game’s “My Mods” section to review installed projects. Start a new world or load a backed-up copy of an existing one, then check for the specific change described on the mod page.
App support is format- and project-dependent; it does not remove the need to follow an author’s instructions for RuneSchema, save files, or unsupported projects.

Install a PAK mod manually
Use this route only when the project’s author provides manual PAK instructions. The exact folder depends on where the game is installed, so locate your own installation instead of copying someone else’s absolute path.
- Open the project page and confirm its game-version compatibility and the exact files to install.
- Open the game’s
RSDragonwildsContentPaksfolder. For the Steam installation, one community project gives the route Steam → Library → RuneScape: Dragonwilds → Manage → Browse local files; another store or launcher may use a different install location. - Create a folder named
~modsinsidePaksif it does not already exist. - Copy the specified
.pakfile—or the complete matching file set, if the author requires it—into~mods. - Launch the game and verify the mod’s expected behavior. If it fails, close the game and check the project’s compatibility notes and file placement before adding anything else.
The manual folder guidance is described in the CurseForge installation guide; a Nexus Mods project page also gives the Steam route and example directory. Treat those as guidance, not as a universal absolute path.

Install UE4SS mods and RuneSchema projects
UE4SS projects
UE4SS mods rely on the loader, so the game version, loader version, and mod version need to work together. Follow the specific project’s current documentation for the required UE4SS build and paths; loader folders can change, so do not treat a path from another mod as universal.
- Install the required UE4SS build using its project instructions.
- Launch the game once if the instructions require it.
- Place the complete mod folder in the specified
ue4ssModslocation. Keep included files and the author’s folder structure intact. - Enable the mod and restart the game if directed by its author, then test the described feature.
RuneSchema projects
The installation order described for RuneSchema is UE4SS first, RuneSchema second, and the individual add-on last. Follow each project page for its exact files and steps; do not assume the CurseForge app installs every part of this chain.

Save files
Save files belong in the specified subfolders under AppDataRSDragonwildsSaved in your Windows user profile. World and character files are stored separately. Back up existing data before replacing or merging files, and use the save project’s instructions to identify the correct destination.
Test, troubleshoot, and remove mods
Test safely
Load a new world or a copy of a backed-up world, then check for the change the mod page promises. Watch for missing assets, unusual menus, crashes, or multiplayer connection problems. If an issue appears, close the game and disable the newest mod before testing again.

Remove a mod
- CurseForge install: Open the game’s “My Mods” section and use the project’s delete or uninstall action.
- Manual install: Remove only the files belonging to that project, following its removal instructions. Keep a shared loader or framework if another installed mod depends on it.
- Save-file change: Restore the backup if needed rather than deleting or replacing unrelated world or character data.
Removing one project at a time makes it easier to tell whether the change resolved a problem. If a game update or a mod’s own instructions changes its installation method, follow the current project page.
Community tools and official guidance
RSDW Dev Kit is a community tool that advertises guided installation and controls for PAK and UE4SS projects, including enable/disable and load-order features. It is not an official Jagex utility; review its current project page and instructions before using it: RSDW Dev Kit project page.
Jagex’s official FAQ acknowledges that players have created mods and links to community modding guidelines. The FAQ does not, by itself, establish console mod-installation support. Jagex also documents Steam and Jagex Launcher installs separately in its technical installation article, another reason not to assume that a path shown for one PC install matches another.
