Install a Google Workspace add-on from the Workspace Marketplace, review its requested permissions, and approve access only if it fits your task and your account policy. The exact route depends on whether you’re using Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, Calendar, or another Workspace product. In Docs, Sheets, and Slides, you can also manage or uninstall add-ons from Extensions.
How to install a Google Workspace add-on
You can find add-ons in the Google Workspace Marketplace or use an entry point inside the Workspace product where you want to use one. In Docs, Sheets, and Slides, open a file and select Extensions > Add-ons > Get add-ons. Other products, including Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Drive, and Meet, have their own entry points.

- Open the Marketplace or the product’s add-on entry point. Start from the relevant app or document so you can check that the listing supports the product you use.
- Find and inspect the app listing. Review its feature description, developer information, support links, price label, and any security-verification information. Marketplace filters can help narrow listings by compatible product and price category.
- Select Install and review the access request. Follow the account and OAuth consent prompts. The consent screen describes the app and the permissions it is requesting; where Google offers individual permission choices, grant only access needed for the features you intend to use.
- Open the add-on in its host product. Depending on the app and product, it may appear in a menu or sidebar. If a new Docs, Sheets, or Slides add-on does not appear, refresh the file.
Listings can be free or paid, but treat the displayed price as developer-provided information. Google says it does not handle Marketplace payments or verify the accuracy of pricing information. Ratings can help with discovery, but Google does not verify Marketplace reviews and ratings.

An add-on may need access to Workspace data to perform its advertised task. Before approving it, match the requested permissions to the feature you actually need, and check who developed it and what privacy and support information the listing provides. Google reviews public Marketplace submissions against its guidelines, and some apps that use Google APIs to access user data may need verification before they are available in the Marketplace. Those processes do not replace your own permission review or your organization’s rules.

- Confirm the listing works with the Workspace product you plan to use.
- Check that the described features address your task.
- Consider whether the requested access is proportionate to that task, especially if it covers sensitive information.
- Review the developer’s support and privacy information.
- For a work or school account, confirm that your administrator allows the app.
- Read the listing’s pricing terms rather than assuming the app is free or that a displayed price is verified by Google.
How to manage or uninstall add-ons
Docs, Sheets, and Slides
In a document, spreadsheet, or presentation, go to Extensions > Add-ons > Manage add-ons. The documented controls let you use or stop using an add-on in the document and uninstall it. You can also use controls in the add-on’s sidebar. If the add-on remains visible after uninstalling, reload the file.
Google Forms
Forms uses a different route: open the form and select More > Add-ons > Settings > Manage Apps. The available controls can vary by Workspace product and account type.

Work or school accounts
If your organization installed an add-on for you, you may not be able to remove it yourself. Ask your administrator whether the app is organization-managed and what removal options are available.

A Marketplace listing does not guarantee that every account can install the app. The reason may be specific to your account, organization, or the app’s availability.

- Administrator restriction: Your organization may limit installations or require an administrator to install the app.
- Organization-managed app: An administrator may control the app or its access to Workspace data through OAuth settings.
- Regional availability: The developer may restrict where the app is offered.
- Subscription requirement: Your account may lack a Workspace product subscription the app requires.
If installation fails, note the exact message, check whether you are signed in with a personal or work or school account, and ask your administrator whether the app is allowed, admin-managed, or blocked by an OAuth policy. Google’s Marketplace installation-message guide describes common availability messages.
What administrators should review
Administrators can install Marketplace apps for an organization or selected users and control app access through OAuth settings. Before approving an app, review what data it requests and whether that access is appropriate: Google warns that authorizing a malicious app could compromise organizational data.

In the Admin console, administrators can use Security > Access and data control > API controls > App access control to review configured, accessed, and pending-review apps. Google notes that app details may take 24–48 hours to appear after authorization. Workspace for Education customers at primary and secondary institutions may have additional restrictions.
