On Windows, install Game Pass games through the Xbox PC app. On an Xbox console, sign in with the account that has the subscription and find console games from the home screen. For a supported game, device, plan, and region, cloud gaming can let you play without installing the game locally. Check a title’s current availability and requirements before you commit time or storage to it.
Install a Game Pass game on a Windows PC
- Install or open the Xbox PC app.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that has the applicable Game Pass subscription.
- Browse the PC Game Pass library and choose a title that supports PC.
- Open the game’s detail page, check its system requirements, then start the download in the app.
The Xbox PC app requires Windows 10/11 version 22H2 or later, according to Xbox’s app page. Individual games can require a newer update or stronger hardware, so check each title’s listing rather than assuming the app’s minimum is enough. Microsoft says requirements vary by game in its PC Game Pass FAQ.

Allow space for the game itself
Xbox lists the PC app at 150 MB; that is the app’s footprint, not the space needed for game installations. Games need additional storage, and no universal game size or recommended drive capacity is established by the cited Xbox pages. Check the individual game listing and available space on your PC before downloading. See Xbox’s Xbox on PC page.

- Sign in on the console with the account that has the relevant subscription.
- From the console home screen, find a console game included in the current Game Pass library and begin its download.
Microsoft’s Game Pass getting-started guidance identifies the console home screen as the starting point. The cited guidance does not document a full series of button presses or current menu labels, so those may differ by console interface and software version.

Play without downloading: cloud gaming
Cloud gaming can be an alternative to a local installation when the specific title, device, subscription plan, and region are supported. Check the current availability for your setup on Xbox’s Xbox on PC and getting-started pages. It is not available for every game or configuration. The available official information does not establish a general comparison of cloud and local play for latency, image quality, or performance.
Check access before you download
Game Pass access is tied to both your subscription and the catalog: a title is available only while the subscription is active and the game remains in the library. Xbox’s PC Game Pass FAQ also notes that catalog availability can vary over time, by region, plan, and platform. Confirm that the title is currently in the library for your account and device before starting a large download.

Move games, change the install drive, or uninstall
The cited official pages do not establish the current menu sequence for moving or uninstalling installed games, or changing a PC game’s install location. Do not rely on guessed menu names: check the current Xbox app or console interface for your version, or consult Xbox support for the exact device and game. If you need more PC storage, Xbox confirms that game installations require space beyond the app, but the cited material does not recommend a particular drive type, capacity, or external SSD compatibility.

Choose between a local install and cloud play
| Option | What to check | Main consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Local download | Game supports your platform; PC meets the title’s requirements; enough storage is available. | The game is installed on the device and uses local storage. |
| Cloud gaming | Title, device, subscription plan, and region are supported. | Can avoid a local game download, but is not available for every game or setup. |
