To check which Windows version is installed, open the taskbar search box, type winver, and open the result. To find out whether a Windows 10 PC can upgrade to Windows 11, run Microsoft’s PC Health Check app; then check Settings > Windows Update to see whether the upgrade is currently offered. Passing the eligibility check does not mean the update will be available immediately.

Is my PC eligible for a Windows 11 update?
Run PC Health Check for a compatibility result
On a Windows 10 PC, search for and open Microsoft’s PC Health Check app, then select Check now in the Windows 11 section. It reports whether the PC meets Windows 11 requirements and can identify requirements it does not meet. If the app is not installed, use Microsoft’s official PC Health Check download. Microsoft’s eligibility guidance is available on its Windows 11 system requirements page.
Check whether Windows Update offers the upgrade
Open Settings > Windows Update and check the update status. PC Health Check answers whether the hardware and system qualify; Windows Update indicates whether the upgrade is being offered to this PC. Microsoft says a device needs to be running Windows 10 version 2004 or later to upgrade through Windows Update, as well as meeting Windows 11’s minimum hardware requirements. What does Windows 11 eligibility require?
Microsoft’s minimum requirements include all of the following. The processor must also appear on Microsoft’s approved CPU list; meeting the speed and core-count minimum alone is not enough.
- A compatible 1 GHz or faster processor with at least two cores.
- At least 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.
- UEFI firmware that is Secure Boot capable, and TPM version 2.0.
- Graphics compatible with DirectX 12 or later, with a WDDM 2.0 driver.
- A display larger than 9 inches, with 720p resolution and 8 bits per color channel.

Why might Windows Update not offer Windows 11?
An eligible PC may not receive the offer right away. Microsoft says rollout timing varies, and a known compatibility issue can hold back an offer until it is resolved. Eligibility and availability are separate: PC Health Check can report that a PC qualifies while Windows Update has not yet presented the upgrade.
If you recently changed hardware and the PC Health Check result and Windows Update status seem inconsistent, allow time for the assessment to refresh. Microsoft says this can take up to 24 hours. If the PC is managed by an organization, ask its IT administrator about eligibility and upgrade timing.

What Windows 10 support ending means
Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Microsoft says it no longer provides free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10 after that date. Check eligibility and Windows Update status to understand your available next step; the end of support does not itself confirm that a particular PC is eligible for Windows 11.
