How to Install and Configure RenoDX Generic with ReShade

Install RenoDX Generic through ReShade, find its in-game controls, and check the right game-specific instructions before choosing a build.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To install RenoDX Generic, first install ReShade 6.8.0 or newer with full add-on support for the game, then place the game’s matching RenoDX .addon64 or .addon32 file in the folder where ReShade is installed. Launch the game and press Home to open ReShade and reach RenoDX’s controls. These are the shared steps; check the individual game’s current listing for compatibility and any special directions.

What RenoDX Generic does—and what “Generic” does not promise

RenoDX is an open-source framework that modifies DirectX game rendering through ReShade add-ons. Its project describes features including HDR output, shader replacement, resource upgrades, overlays, and persistent graphics settings. Its aim is game-specific rendering behavior, so the word “Generic” does not guarantee that every game is supported or behaves the same way. See the RenoDX project website.

ReShade is required because RenoDX uses the ReShade Add-on API. The separate development setup instructions are for building RenoDX; ordinary players installing a prebuilt game add-on do not need those build tools or commands. See RenoDX’s contribution documentation.

Before you install: check the game’s listing

Open the official RenoDX Mods page and find the exact game. The list distinguishes entries marked working or playable from those marked in progress, and an individual game page may include special installation directions. The page metadata says it was last modified 30 September 2026; check it again before installing because status and available builds can change.

Use the page for the game you intend to play, rather than assuming that a generic workflow verifies compatibility. No target game was specified here, so there is no game-specific support status or executable path to confirm.

Install RenoDX Generic through ReShade

  1. Install ReShade 6.8.0 or newer with full add-on support. In the ReShade installer, select the intended game executable. The RenoDX instructions say the installer usually finds it, or you can browse to it manually. For an Xbox installation, select gamelaunchhelper.exe.
  2. Download the add-on for your game. Use the download route shown on that game’s entry—Snapshot, Nexus, or Discord—and read its individual notes before proceeding. The official list says snapshot builds may be more current than their Nexus counterparts, but may also be less stable.
  3. Copy the matching add-on into the game’s ReShade folder. Use the .addon64 or .addon32 file that matches the game’s architecture. Put it in the folder where ReShade was installed for that game, not merely in the folder where the download was saved.
  4. Launch the game and open ReShade. Press Home to open the ReShade menu and access RenoDX settings. You do not need a ReShade shader pack for the basic RenoDX add-on installation.

Configure RenoDX and address washed-out output

Open RenoDX’s settings from the ReShade menu and follow the controls and recommendations provided for your game’s entry. There is no single set of configuration values established here for every title, so avoid applying instructions from another RenoDX mod or game without confirming that they match your installation.

If the image looks washed out, the RenoDX instructions advise disabling Auto HDR and RTX HDR to avoid double tone mapping. Apply that advice when you see the symptom; it is not a general requirement for every setup.

Snapshot, Nexus, and game-specific exceptions

When an entry offers more than one build, the practical trade-off is recency versus stability: the official list describes snapshots as potentially more up to date and potentially less stable than Nexus versions. Check the exact game entry for its current options and notes rather than treating one download route as universally best.

Quick checks if the add-on does not appear

  • Confirm ReShade was installed for the executable that actually launches the game; Xbox installations use gamelaunchhelper.exe according to the RenoDX instructions.
  • Check that ReShade is version 6.8.0 or newer and that the installer included full add-on support.
  • Verify that the architecture-matched .addon64 or .addon32 file is beside the ReShade installation for the game.
  • Reopen the game and press Home to check the ReShade menu for RenoDX controls.
  • Revisit the game’s current Mods entry for compatibility status and any nonstandard installation steps.
