There is no single official “DeepSeek Harness Desktop” installer for all three operating systems. DeepSeek’s official project documents a Node.js-based CLI and local web interface, plus desktop targets for Windows x64 and macOS x64/arm64; it says Linux is not a supported Desktop release target. Linux desktop packages are community projects, with their own installation, security, and update policies.
Choose between the official upstream web workflow and a specific, independently maintained desktop wrapper. The commands and setup example below are tied to the named project that documents them; they are not universal instructions for every app using the DeepSeek Harness name.

Choose an installation path
| Path | Where it comes from | Platform and prerequisites | Configuration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official CLI and local web UI | DeepSeek AI’s DeepSeek Harness repository | Documented npm route requires Node.js. The local web UI runs at 127.0.0.1:3080 by default. | Use the upstream CLI/web workflow; the cited desktop-wrapper sign-in steps do not apply. |
| Desktop wrapper | An independent project, such as the LodeKennes packager or agent-earth | Check the particular project’s current release artifacts and supported OS/architecture. LodeKennes says its installers do not require Node.js or pnpm; this is specific to its package. | Varies by wrapper. LodeKennes documents browser-based account connection or adding an API provider in Settings → Models. |
The official repository identifies DeepSeek Harness as a developer preview and warns that compatibility-breaking changes may occur. Its commands and supported targets should not be treated as a permanent compatibility guarantee.

- Install Node.js using the instructions for your operating system.
- Open a terminal and run
npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web. - When the server starts, open http://127.0.0.1:3080 in your browser if it does not open automatically.
- To start the server without opening a browser, use
npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web --no-open.
The address uses 127.0.0.1, so this is a local web interface. The project’s README documents this npm workflow and default address; consult the upstream README for current instructions.
Build from source instead
The upstream repository also documents a source-checkout workflow. It requires Git and pnpm in addition to the project’s build prerequisites:
- Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/deepseek-ai/deepseek-harness.git - Change into the checkout:
cd deepseek-harness - Install dependencies:
pnpm install - Build the project:
pnpm run build - Start the web interface:
pnpm dsh web
What to expect on Windows and macOS
DeepSeek’s reviewed desktop documentation lists a Windows x64 target and macOS targets for Intel (x64) and Apple Silicon (arm64). It does not provide a complete, universal end-user installation and model-configuration procedure in the material cited here. A listed target is not the same as a documented installer flow: use the exact release instructions for the distribution you choose.
Windows
If you select a community package, verify its project owner and the exact release artifact before downloading. SmartScreen prompts, signing, installation steps, and updates depend on that project and build. Do not treat a security warning as a reason to bypass protection unless you have verified the artifact and deliberately accept the risk.

macOS
Likewise, signing and Gatekeeper behavior vary among projects and releases. The LodeKennes packager says its developer-preview builds are unsigned and documents a quarantine-related workaround for its own app; that instruction does not apply to every DeepSeek Harness wrapper. Prefer a verified, properly signed artifact when available, and follow only the selected project’s current guidance.
Linux: upstream web UI or a community package
DeepSeek’s official desktop documentation says Linux is not a supported Desktop release target. You can still use the documented upstream CLI/web workflow on a Linux system with Node.js; that is distinct from installing an official Linux desktop app.
Community projects publish Linux packages, but those are independent offerings. For example, LodeKennes lists .deb packages for Debian/Ubuntu-family systems, .rpm packages for Fedora/RHEL-family systems, .pkg.tar.zst packages for Arch-family systems, and an AppImage. Its documentation says the AppImage is not zero-dependency and runs with --no-sandbox; it also says its Linux packages are unsigned. Those facts describe that packager, not Linux support from DeepSeek.

Before choosing any community Linux build, check the project’s current release page for the package matching your distribution and architecture, its signing status, dependencies, sandbox behavior, and update method. Do not assume formats, commands, or security instructions transfer between wrappers.

Configure a desktop wrapper: one documented example
The following first-run flow is specific to the LodeKennes packager. It is not an upstream DeepSeek procedure and may differ from other wrappers.
- Download and install a release from the LodeKennes project, following the instructions for your OS and exact artifact.
- At first launch, its setup screen can connect an eligible ChatGPT/Codex, Claude, Google Antigravity, xAI/Grok, or Kimi account through that provider’s browser sign-in.
- Alternatively, skip account connection and open Settings → Models to add a regular API provider.
- Choose a workspace when prompted.
The packager says its app discovers models and configures Harness automatically after the supported account sign-in. Do not enter account credentials into a download unless you have verified that you are using the intended project and trust its handling of those credentials. Its documentation says the bundled CLIProxyAPI listens on localhost and stores account files under ~/.dsh/desktop/cliproxyapi/auth, or under the corresponding %USERPROFILE%.dsh path on Windows.
Verify provenance, signing, and updates before installing
“DeepSeek Harness Desktop” can refer to independently maintained wrappers rather than one official desktop distribution. The LodeKennes README explicitly says, “This packager is not an official DeepSeek product page.” Agent-earth describes itself as an unofficial community wrapper and has a separate release stream and update behavior. Their artifacts and instructions are not interchangeable.
- Confirm the repository owner and project identity from the project’s own repository before downloading.
- Match the release to your OS and CPU architecture, and read the exact artifact’s installation notes.
- Check signing and security-warning guidance for that project and build. LodeKennes reports unsigned developer-preview builds, Windows SmartScreen or macOS Gatekeeper warnings, and unsigned Linux packages.
- Check how updates are delivered. LodeKennes says it has no in-app auto-update; another wrapper may behave differently.
For the official upstream project, use the DeepSeek Harness repository as the source of its CLI/web instructions and desktop-target documentation. For a community app, use only its own current release page and documentation. A package available for a platform does not make it an official DeepSeek release.
