To install a Yealink SIP IP phone, connect it to the correct network and a supported power source, then let it initialize and apply the SIP account or provisioning details from your phone administrator or VoIP provider. Powering on is only the physical setup: the phone also needs a working network, compatible service configuration, and an active call server to place and receive calls.
Before you install the phone
Find the exact model number printed on the handset or its base, and use that model’s current quick start guide. Port labels, menu paths, power requirements, firmware support, and setup behavior vary across Yealink models. Also confirm that the phone is supported by your SIP provider, PBX, or hosted phone system, including any features your deployment requires.

For a business phone, ask the administrator or provider for the extension or account setup process, any required provisioning URL, and the network details for the phone’s switch port. A managed deployment may require a particular VLAN or other network access. Yealink’s administrator documentation covers VoIP network and provisioning-server setup, device settings, troubleshooting, updates, and maintenance: Yealink administrator documentation.

Yealink’s initialization guidance lists a working IP network, SIP-configured VoIP gateways, compatible firmware, and an active call server configured to send and receive SIP messages among the deployment prerequisites: Yealink initialization guidance. Your administrator or provider should confirm the service-side details; do not reuse sample credentials from an unrelated setup guide.

How do you connect a Yealink phone to Ethernet and power?
- Fit the stand or wall mount. Follow the instructions for your exact model; mounting hardware and orientation are model-specific.
- Connect Ethernet. Run a network cable from the phone’s Internet or network port to the intended switch or router port. Use the port identified in the model guide; do not assume that similarly shaped phone ports have the same purpose.
- Provide power by a supported method. Use Power over Ethernet (PoE) only if the phone supports it and the connected switch or injector provides compatible PoE. Otherwise, use the adapter specified for that model. Check the required voltage, current, and connector in the phone’s guide rather than choosing an adapter by appearance.
- Connect optional equipment. If you need to pass a network connection through the phone to a computer, connect it to the phone’s PC port as the model guide directs. This is optional; the phone itself needs its network connection.
For a model-specific example, the SIP-T42S Quick Start Guide_V84_80 describes power through an IEEE 802.3af-compliant PoE hub or switch, or through Yealink’s original 5V/1.2A adapter. That rating applies to the cited T42S guide, not to Yealink phones generally. The guide also says the phone begins initialization after network and power are connected: SIP-T42S quick start guide.
What happens at first startup?
Allow the phone to finish initializing before changing settings or testing calls. Startup confirms that the device has power; it does not, by itself, confirm that an extension is registered or that calling service is available. The SIP-T42S quick start guide says that model is ready for use after startup and can be configured through its phone interface or web interface. Treat this as a T42S example, not a promise that every model will be registered automatically.

In a managed system, the phone may retrieve configuration files from an auto-provisioning server. Yealink documents server-address discovery methods including zero-touch/PnP, DHCP options, and an address saved on the phone. The mechanism used depends on the phone and network: Yealink auto-provisioning guidance. Follow your administrator’s or provider’s process for the correct provisioning address and credentials.

Use the setup method your provider or administrator specifies. It may provision the phone centrally, or require configuration through the handset or its web interface. The exact menus and fields differ by model and service, so use the matching model guide and the provider’s instructions rather than assuming a universal Yealink setup path.

- Confirm the phone model is supported by the SIP provider, PBX, or hosted phone system.
- Obtain the correct extension or account details and any required server or provisioning information from the service administrator.
- Confirm that the phone has the required network access and compatible firmware.
- Let managed provisioning complete before manually changing settings that may be controlled by the administrator.
Yealink’s provisioning guidance recommends that IP phones running the latest firmware should not be downgraded to an earlier firmware version. This is the manufacturer’s recommendation; check with the phone administrator before changing firmware: Yealink provisioning guidance.
How can you check that calling service works?
Check that the phone has network connectivity and that its expected extension or account is registered, or that the provider’s status indicator reports service. Then test an appropriate call according to your organization’s rules. A powered-on screen alone is not evidence that the phone is connected to its call service.

Why does a Yealink phone show no service?
There is no single error-code or status-indicator procedure that applies to every Yealink model. Consult the exact model guide for the message shown on your screen, then work through the likely setup dependencies:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Network path: Check the Ethernet connection and confirm with the administrator that the switch port provides the required network or VLAN access.
- Provisioning: Verify with the administrator or provider that the phone received the right provisioning details and account configuration.
- Firmware compatibility: Confirm that the firmware is supported by the phone system. Do not downgrade a phone running the latest firmware without administrator guidance.
- Call service: Ask the administrator or provider to confirm that the SIP gateway or call server is active, configured to send and receive SIP messages, and that the account is enabled. They can also check service-side logs.
Yealink’s support materials describe initialization and provisioning requirements, but do not establish one universal status-code troubleshooting tree for all models. For model-specific errors, start with Yealink support documentation and your phone-system administrator.
