To increase server FPS in Palworld, first separate the dedicated server’s simulation rate from a player’s rendered FPS and from network latency. Then meet Pocketpair’s baseline of at least four CPU cores, 16 GB of memory and fast SSD storage; test the documented multithreading launch flags; tune worker threads only while measuring CPU and latency; and treat tick-rate changes as a separate experiment. These steps improve the server update cadence, but they cannot raise a client’s GPU-rendered frame rate, and they will not by themselves cure rubber-banding caused by network problems, storage stalls or an overloaded CPU.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Palworld servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
What “server FPS” means in Palworld
A Palworld dedicated server runs a simulation loop that advances the world, players, Pals, physics, AI and scheduled tasks. “Server FPS” is the cadence of those simulation updates. A low value means the server is taking too long to process each update, so actions can arrive late or be corrected later. It is different from the FPS shown by a player’s monitor.

- Client rendering FPS: produced by each player’s GPU, CPU, resolution and graphics settings. Dedicated-server flags cannot increase it.
- Ping: the round-trip network delay between a player and the host. A high ping can feel slow even when simulation FPS is healthy.
- Rubber-banding: visible position or state corrections. It can result from a slow simulation, CPU saturation, save/storage pauses, packet loss or an overloaded route.
Before changing a setting, record which symptom you actually have. If only one player has low rendered FPS, the server is not the likely bottleneck. If everyone freezes during saves, inspect storage and memory pressure. If players teleport while the host CPU is lightly loaded, investigate latency and packet loss before raising a tick rate.
Check the host against Pocketpair’s requirements
Pocketpair’s Palworld Server Guide (version 0.5.0) lists a recommended CPU with 4 or more cores and 16 GB of memory. The same guide recommends more than 32 GB for larger needs and warns that an 8 GB machine can boot but has a greater risk of out-of-memory crashes. These are capacity guidelines, not a promise of a particular FPS at a particular player count.

| Resource | Official guidance | Why it affects simulation |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | 4+ cores recommended (Pocketpair guide, version 0.5.0) | World simulation and background tasks need sustained processing time; more cores do not automatically fix a weak or throttled main thread. |
| Memory | 16 GB listed; more than 32 GB recommended for larger needs (Pocketpair guide, version 0.5.0) | Insufficient memory can trigger paging, instability and out-of-memory crashes. |
| Memory floor | 8 GB is bootable but carries increased out-of-memory risk (Pocketpair guide, version 0.5.0) | A server that starts is not necessarily stable during exploration, building and saves. |
| Storage | Faster storage recommended; low-performance storage may corrupt saved data | World loads and saves can pause the simulation, and a stalled or corrupted save can be worse than a low FPS reading. |
Use a host with a fast SSD, preferably NVMe when the motherboard, enclosure or virtual-server plan supports it. Confirm the interface, capacity and endurance rather than assuming every drive advertised as “SSD” has the same latency. Keep adequate free space for the operating system, logs, world saves and backups. Pocketpair explicitly states that low-performance storage may corrupt saved data, so storage is a reliability requirement as well as a performance upgrade.
Measure the bottleneck before changing settings
Make one change at a time and keep a short log. Record the server FPS or update-rate indicator you use, average and peak CPU utilization, memory use, disk activity, player count, ping and the time of any save or restart. A useful test is a repeatable route through a busy base with the same number of connected players, followed by a save and a period of combat or construction.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Signs of CPU saturation
- One or more CPU cores remain near full utilization while simulation FPS falls.
- Latency rises for every connected player at the same time.
- Reducing the player count or stopping heavy base activity produces an immediate improvement.
- Changing graphics settings on a client has no effect on the server symptom.
Signs of memory pressure
- Memory use climbs toward the host limit, followed by paging, slow saves or a crash.
- The process restarts or exits with an out-of-memory condition after a long uptime.
- Adding RAM or reducing other services helps more than changing tick-rate settings.
Signs of storage or save stalls
- Freezes coincide with world saves, loading areas or backups.
- Disk latency or queue depth spikes while CPU utilization is moderate.
- The server becomes unstable after moving the save directory to a slower disk, network share or heavily contended volume.
Signs of a network problem
- Only players in one geographic region report delay.
- Packet loss or fluctuating ping appears without high host CPU or disk load.
- Players rubber-band even though the server simulation remains steady.
Apply Pocketpair’s multithreading launch options
Pocketpair’s current server guide documents this group of arguments:

- Cool While Gaming: In conjunction with an ARGB fan Air Cooler, the Codex R2 features four system cooling fans; three in the front and one in the rear to pull in cool air and push heat out of the PC.
- Turn on the Bright Lights: With the built-in RGB lighting, take your gaming experience to the next level by pressing the MSI LED button to cycle through lighting options. Customize lighting even further with MSI Center software.
-useperfthreads -NoAsyncLoadingThread -UseMultithreadForDS
On a Windows Steam or SteamCMD installation, place the arguments in the dedicated server’s launch-options field or in the command used to start the server. On Linux SteamCMD, add them to the server launch command. Keep the three flags together for the first test so you are evaluating the documented configuration rather than an arbitrary mixture of options.
Important version qualification
The wording in Pocketpair’s version 1.0.4 guide is version-sensitive: “In v1.0 and later, leaving this parameter unset may improve performance.” That means the multithreading parameter is not guaranteed to be faster on every release or host. After a game update, back up the world, test with the flags present, then test with the relevant parameter left unset if the guide indicates that state. Compare the same workload and keep the state that produces better simulation stability, not merely a higher momentary reading.
A safe test procedure
- Stop the server cleanly and copy the world-save directory to a separate backup location.
- Write down the current launch command and baseline measurements.
- Add
-useperfthreads -NoAsyncLoadingThread -UseMultithreadForDSas a single change. - Restart, connect the usual players and repeat the same busy-world test.
- Watch CPU utilization per core, memory, disk latency, simulation FPS, ping and crash logs for a meaningful session rather than a single minute.
- Keep the change only if it improves the target symptom without introducing instability, save errors or worse latency.
Use worker-thread settings cautiously
Pocketpair also documents -NumberOfWorkerThreadsServer=X. The page says this option should be used with the multithreading arguments. It does not publish a universal value for X on the current page, so copying a number from another host is not a reliable tuning method.

How to tune X
- Start from the host’s current configuration and establish a baseline with no worker-thread change.
- Choose one test value appropriate to your host, add
-NumberOfWorkerThreadsServer=Xalongside the documented multithreading flags, and change nothing else. - Run the same player count, base activity and save cycle used for the baseline.
- Check whether CPU cores are saturated, whether simulation FPS is steadier, and whether ping or rubber-banding worsens.
- Revert if the server spends more time at full CPU, becomes less responsive, crashes or shows save problems.
More worker threads are not automatically better. A host can lose performance through scheduling overhead, thermal throttling or contention with the operating system and other services. Sustained CPU behavior matters more than a brief peak FPS increase.
Move the server and saves to fast SSD or NVMe storage
Place the dedicated-server installation and the active world-save files on the fastest compatible local drive. NVMe is the clearest physical upgrade when the host supports it, but the correct choice depends on the host’s interface, available capacity and workload. Do not move live saves to a slow external disk, a crowded shared volume or a network share merely because it has more nominal capacity.
Storage checklist
- Verify that the host supports the SSD or NVMe interface and that the drive has enough free capacity.
- Keep the operating system, server process and save directory off a volume that is close to full.
- Check disk latency during world saves and backups, not only sequential transfer speed.
- Schedule backups so they do not saturate the same drive during peak play.
- Test a clean shutdown and restore of a backup before deleting the original save.
Pocketpair’s warning is unusually important here: “Low-performance storage may corrupt saved data.” A storage change that removes brief freezes but increases corruption risk is not an improvement.

Understand tick rate and why it is not a rubber-band cure
Tick rate controls how frequently the server attempts to advance its simulation. Raising it can increase the amount of work the host must complete, so it should be tested separately from CPU, memory and storage changes. A community configuration reference cautions that values above 120 can increase hardware load and still fail to fix rubber-banding. This is secondary guidance, not an official Pocketpair benchmark.
When a tick-rate experiment is reasonable
- The host already meets the official CPU, memory and storage guidance.
- CPU headroom remains available during the busiest repeatable workload.
- Ping and packet loss are stable, so network conditions are not masking the result.
- You can change the value, measure it and revert without risking the save.
When to leave tick rate alone
- CPU cores are already saturated or thermally throttling.
- Rubber-banding is regional, intermittent or correlated with packet loss.
- Freezes occur during saves or disk activity.
- The server is unstable at its current setting.
Record the original value, change only the tick-rate setting, and compare simulation FPS, CPU load, ping and correction events. Revert when hardware load rises without a measurable improvement. Do not assume that a higher number guarantees smoother play.

Windows Steam or SteamCMD
Use the dedicated server’s launch-options field or the startup shortcut/script that invokes the server. Preserve the existing arguments, add the documented flags as one test group, and keep a copy of the working command. If you use a service wrapper, confirm that it passes the arguments to the server process rather than to the wrapper itself.

Docker
Pocketpair provides an official Docker image, but Docker Desktop is deprecated for storage-I/O reasons. The documented concern is increased risk of save corruption and malfunction. If you containerize the server, use a deployment with dependable local storage, persistent volume handling and tested backups; do not treat a container as a substitute for adequate CPU or memory.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
Self-hosting gives you direct control over launch arguments, storage placement, operating-system updates and monitoring. A managed host can reduce maintenance, but the advertised player slot count alone does not reveal whether the machine has enough sustained CPU or fast storage. Compare providers using the same technical questions you would ask of your own server.
| Comparison axis | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| CPU | What single-thread performance and sustained clock behavior are available under load? |
| Memory | How much RAM is allocated to your instance, and can it be increased for a larger world? |
| Storage | Is the save volume SSD or NVMe, and is it shared with other workloads? |
| Backups | Are automatic backups available, how often do they run, and can you download and restore them? |
| Player capacity | Is the stated player cap backed by a resource allocation rather than only a software limit? |
| Network location | Where is the server region, and does it minimize latency for most players? |
| Tick-rate controls | Can you inspect and safely change the setting, and can you revert it? |
| Restart tooling | Can you schedule restarts, view logs and recover after a crash without losing the save? |
| Price | What recurring charge applies to the exact CPU, RAM, storage and backup allocation? |
Pocketpair documents the deployment requirements but does not endorse a commercial provider or publish provider benchmarks. Demand measurable resource allocations and a restore process instead of relying on a generic “high FPS” claim.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A troubleshooting sequence for persistent low FPS
- Classify the symptom. Confirm whether the complaint is server simulation FPS, client rendering FPS, ping or rubber-banding.
- Check the baseline. Verify at least four CPU cores, 16 GB RAM and fast SSD storage; plan above 32 GB for larger needs.
- Capture a baseline. Record per-core CPU load, memory, disk latency, ping, player count and save timing.
- Test the flags. Add
-useperfthreads -NoAsyncLoadingThread -UseMultithreadForDSas one controlled change. - Test the version-sensitive state. After backing up and updating, compare the guide’s recommended “unset” state where applicable.
- Tune workers. If needed, test
-NumberOfWorkerThreadsServer=Xwith the multithreading flags, changing onlyXbetween trials. - Fix storage. Move the server and saves to a compatible fast SSD or NVMe drive and check save-time disk latency.
- Test tick rate last. Change it separately, treat values above 120 as a hardware-load risk, and revert if rubber-banding remains.
- Check the network. Compare regions, packet loss and route latency when host metrics are healthy.
- Escalate deployment. If the host remains unstable, compare a managed service using CPU, RAM, storage, backups, network location and restart controls.
Common mistakes that make performance worse
- Confusing client FPS with server FPS: lowering a player’s graphics settings cannot speed up the dedicated server.
- Copying a worker-thread number:
Xis host-dependent; measure CPU saturation and stability instead. - Raising tick rate first: a higher value can add load while leaving network or storage problems untouched.
- Ignoring per-core load: total CPU percentage can look moderate while a critical core is saturated.
- Running on 8 GB and treating startup as proof of capacity: Pocketpair warns that this increases out-of-memory crash risk.
- Putting saves on slow or contended storage: the official warning includes potential save corruption, not merely slower loads.
- Changing several variables at once: you lose the ability to identify which change helped or caused a crash.
- Skipping backups before updates: version-sensitive launch behavior should be tested against a recoverable save.
Practical target: stable simulation, not the biggest number
The best Palworld server is the one that maintains a consistent simulation under your real player count and world activity. Start with Pocketpair’s hardware guidance, use fast local storage, test the documented multithreading flags after each relevant version change, and tune worker threads only from measurements. Investigate CPU, memory, disk and network evidence separately. Treat tick rate as an optional, reversible experiment rather than a universal fix for rubber-banding. This approach improves the odds of smoother play without trading a temporary FPS increase for crashes or corrupted saves.
