On many Samsung laptops, hold Fn and press F3 to raise screen brightness; use Fn + F2 to lower it. If the shortcut does nothing, try the Windows brightness slider, then check whether your model needs Samsung Settings or has different function-key behavior.
Raise brightness with the keyboard

Hold Fn and press F3 to increase brightness. Press Fn + F2 to decrease it. Samsung lists these shortcuts for supported notebooks, but keys and features can vary by model and software version. See Samsung’s laptop brightness guide.

If the shortcut does not respond, check whether your laptop uses Fn Lock or requires the Samsung Settings app for function-key features. Samsung’s function-key guide explains that hotkey behavior depends on the device; Fn Lock may also allow hotkeys to work without holding Fn.

Use the Windows brightness slider
Windows provides an on-screen control when it is available. Its location depends on the Windows version:

Windows 11: Select the network, volume, or battery icon on the taskbar to open Quick Settings, then move the brightness slider.

Windows 10: Open Action Center and adjust the brightness slider.

Samsung notes that the built-in brightness adjustment may not appear while an external monitor is connected. If you do not see a slider, disconnect the external display and check again. See Samsung’s Action Center and Quick Settings guide.

Check Samsung display settings
Open Start, search for Samsung Settings, and select Display to see the options supported by your laptop. Samsung’s US guide describes modes such as Auto, Vivid, Natural, Photo Editing, and Movie, but availability varies by device and software version. These modes change the screen’s appearance; they are not a substitute for raising the brightness level. Details are in Samsung’s display and brightness guide.

If the screen still looks too dim

Check power: Samsung says brightness may increase while the PC is charging, and compatible PCs may adjust brightness automatically to conserve battery. Plug in the laptop and see whether the screen changes.

Review automatic brightness options: Open Windows Display settings and look for automatic brightness controls, if your device offers them. The available options differ by PC.

Update Windows and calibrate the display: Samsung includes these among its troubleshooting steps for a dark screen.
