To give players more engram points, edit the server-side Game.ini file under [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]. Add one OverridePlayerLevelEngramPoints= entry for every configured player level, in level order, place that list at the end of the file, save it, and restart the server. The first entry controls the first level, the second controls the second level, and so on.

What the engram override does
Engram points are the currency survivors spend to permanently unlock crafting recipes. In a standard multiplayer progression, a character may reach the level cap without earning enough points to unlock every vanilla recipe. Increasing the award at selected or every level lets an administrator decide how many recipes players can learn without changing the recipes themselves.

The setting is an ordered list rather than a single multiplier. Each line supplies the award for one player level. The game reads the first line for the first configured level, the next line for the next level, and continues through the list. A list with only three entries therefore defines only the first three levels; it does not automatically apply the third value to all later levels.
The configuration affects future level-up awards. It does not refund points already spent by an existing survivor. After changing the file, use a test survivor or level a controlled character to confirm the new progression before applying the policy to an established community.

Requirements and preparation
- Access to the server’s files or its configuration panel.
- Permission to stop and restart the server.
- The correct server edition and configuration path. Paths differ between Survival Evolved, Survival Ascended and hosting providers.
- A planned value for every player level you intend to support.
Stop the server before editing. A running process can rewrite Game.ini when it shuts down, overwriting changes made while it is online. Make a copy of the original file so you can restore the previous progression if the result is not what you intended.
Step-by-step: edit Game.ini
1. Open the server-side file
The usual location is:
ShooterGame/Saved/Config/<server>/Game.iniFor a Linux server, one documented example is:
/ShooterGame/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Game.iniYour provider may expose the same file through a web editor instead of a file manager. Edit the copy loaded by the server, not a local client installation. If the panel offers both a text editor and generated settings, check which one is authoritative; some panels regenerate files when a server starts.

2. Add the game-mode section header
If Game.ini is empty, or if this section is not already present, add the exact header below:
[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]Keep the spelling, capitalization, square brackets and slash exactly as shown. If the section already exists, add the override lines inside that section rather than creating a differently named section.
3. Add one integer line for each level
Use the setting repeatedly, once per level, in ascending level order. This small example awards 10 points at the first level, 20 at the second and 30 at the third:

OverridePlayerLevelEngramPoints=30The values are integers. Replace the example with your own progression and continue the list until it covers every player level you want to configure. If your server has a later level beyond the last line, that level has no corresponding override, so the intended progression can become incomplete.

Keep each assignment on its own line. The first assignment is not “level zero”; it corresponds to the first player level defined by the server’s level configuration.
4. Make the override list the final content
Place the engram override entries at the very end of Game.ini. Do not append another setting or extra blank content after the final entry. This ordering requirement is called out in Nodecraft’s configuration guidance and is a common reason an otherwise correct list appears not to work.
5. Save, restart and verify
- Save the server-side
Game.ini. - Close the editor or panel so the file is actually written.
- Start or restart the server.
- Join with a test survivor.
- Check the engram-point total at several levels, including an early level and a later level covered by your list.
Checking more than one level helps distinguish a correctly loaded list from a file that contains only one valid entry or stops partway through. Verification is a recommended administrative check, not a guarantee that every provider exposes the same level display.
How to choose the progression
There is no universal “correct” award. A useful progression matches the server’s intended difficulty, player count and maximum level. Decide the total points available by the end of progression, then distribute those points across the levels where players should gain new crafting capability.

Calculate the total before publishing the list
Add every value in the list to find the total number of points a survivor can receive across those levels. For example, a short illustrative list of 10, 20 and 30 provides 60 points across its three entries. Apply the same addition to your complete list and compare the result with the number of recipes you expect a player to unlock. This simple check catches accidental omissions and an extra zero in a value before players build around the change.
Evaluate at least four questions:
- How many total points should be available at the server’s intended maximum level?
- How quickly should basic tools, structures and early weapons become available?
- Should a solo player be able to cover several specialist roles, or should a tribe divide those roles?
- Does the new total preserve the challenge, trading and resource scarcity that define your server?
Use examples as starting points, not balance standards
Published configuration guides provide examples rather than a universal balance rule. Shockbyte’s November 10, 2024 guidance explains that the award must be overridden for each level. Nodecraft’s article, updated March 23, 2020, describes the end-of-file requirement and gives a single-player-matching example. Those examples were written for the game versions and level structures available at the time, so copy the method rather than assuming their totals fit every current map, DLC combination or edition.
Historical totals and why they need context
Nodecraft’s 2020 example reported 4,441 engram points by level 140, while more than 7,000 points were needed to unlock the vanilla recipes it considered. Its single-player-style example reached 8,196 total points. These are dated source examples, not current universal totals. Level caps, recipe sets, maps, DLC and the distinction between Survival Evolved and Survival Ascended can change the numbers visible on a particular server.
Use your own configured level list as the authority. Count the entries in the live server configuration, total their values, and compare that total with the recipes enabled on your server. Do not promise players a specific end total based solely on an old guide.

The section header is wrong
Check that the header is exactly [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]. Missing brackets, a misspelled class name or a header placed in another configuration file prevents the game from associating the assignments with the game mode.

There are too few lines
Count the levels you intend to support and compare that count with the number of OverridePlayerLevelEngramPoints entries. The list is positional: a missing line shifts every later value upward, while stopping early leaves later levels without the planned award.
The entries are out of order
Reorder the lines from the first configured level to the last. The game does not infer your intended level from the numeric value on the right side; it uses the line’s position in the list.

Another setting follows the list
Inspect the bottom of Game.ini. The last content should be the override list. Remove settings or generated text that appears after the final assignment, save again and restart.
You edited the wrong file
Compare the path you edited with the path shown by the hosting panel or server startup configuration. A local client copy does not change a remote server. If the provider has separate files for different maps, clusters or server instances, verify that you edited the instance players actually join.
The server was not restarted
Stop and start the server after saving. A live session can continue using the values loaded during its previous startup. If the panel reports that a restart is pending, complete that restart before testing.
A panel or startup process rewrote the file
Compare the saved file with the provider’s live-file or panel view after restarting. If your lines disappear, a generated configuration may be taking precedence. Enter the setting through the panel’s intended custom-configuration field, or disable the conflicting generator according to that provider’s documentation.

Confirm whether the server runs Survival Evolved or Survival Ascended and follow the path and configuration conventions for that edition. A copied path from another edition or host is not proof that the same file is loaded on your server.
Safe testing and rollback
- Stop the server and download or copy the original
Game.ini. - Record the current level cap and any custom level configuration.
- Apply the new header and ordered list.
- Restart and test with a disposable survivor.
- Check at least two level milestones and record the displayed totals.
- If the result is wrong, stop the server, restore the backup or remove only the override block, then restart.
Testing on a disposable survivor avoids changing the progression of a character whose engrams and tribe responsibilities are already established. Once the values are confirmed, announce the effective level schedule so players know whether the change affects new levels only and whether existing characters need an administrator-approved adjustment.
Administration checklist
- Server stopped before editing.
- Correct server-side
Game.iniopened. - Exact game-mode section header present.
- One integer assignment for every intended player level.
- Assignments arranged in level order.
- Override list is the final content in the file.
- File saved and visible in the provider’s live configuration.
- Server restarted.
- Test survivor checked at multiple levels.
- Total points and balance impact documented for players.
Bottom line
Increasing engram points is a file-based, per-level change: edit the server’s Game.ini, add an ordered OverridePlayerLevelEngramPoints= line for every level, keep the block last, then restart and verify. Choose the values by the total progression and difficulty you want, and treat older single-player totals as historical examples rather than settings that automatically fit every ARK server.
