What Rust wipe day means
A Rust wipe is a reset of some or all progress on a server. The word usually refers to the playable map being regenerated, which removes bases, placed objects, stashes and other world progress. A separate blueprint wipe clears the crafting recipes players have learned. Those two resets can happen together, but neither one automatically proves that the other occurred.
On official PC Rust, the recurring monthly reset is connected to Facepunch’s forced update. Schedule references commonly describe it as the first Thursday of each month. That is a useful planning rule, not a promise that every server will be online at one exact minute. Facepunch can change the rollout time, and an individual administrator can delay a restart while installing the update or making server changes.

When is the next Rust force wipe?
Use the first Thursday as the normal monthly marker, then verify the month’s update announcement. Facepunch’s published example set the update for 19:00 GMT on Thursday, December 4, 2025, and said that servers would wipe as usual. This demonstrates how the event is announced, but it should not be treated as a permanent 19:00 GMT appointment for every future month.
Why the exact local time can move
- The update may be deployed at a different UTC/GMT time in another month.
- Servers need to download, install and restart after the game update.
- Community administrators may take the server offline for backups, configuration changes or a map-seed decision.
- Heavy demand can produce queues or a staggered return to service.
A schedule page lists force wipes at around 2:00 p.m. Eastern, but also cautions that Facepunch does not guarantee an exact time. Convert the official UTC/GMT announcement to your own time zone and allow for the restart window rather than relying on a static countdown.

Map wipe
A map wipe regenerates the server’s world. Existing bases and player-built infrastructure disappear, and players start gathering resources and establishing a base again. Depending on the server’s settings, the new world may use a new procedural seed or another administrator-selected map. A weekly or bi-weekly server can perform this reset even when no monthly force wipe has occurred.
Blueprint wipe
A blueprint wipe removes learned crafting progression. Players must research or unlock recipes again, which changes the early-wipe economy and the value of scrap. It is an independent policy decision: a server can wipe its map while preserving blueprints, or erase both.
Facepunch’s own November 2025 announcement illustrates why you should check the wording. The post said: “Today, we’re wiping all Blueprints, wiping all servers, and drastically reducing tech tree and research costs.” It then added: “Does this mean we’ll be force-wiping Blueprints every month? Maybe. We’re not committing to anything yet.” The statement, attributed to Alistair, Facepunch’s Chief Operations Officer, means that the November event was definite while a permanent monthly blueprint rule was not.
What a map wipe does not tell you
- A fresh spawn point or empty base location proves that the map changed, not that blueprints were deleted.
- Keeping your learned recipes does not mean the map is persistent; many servers reset the world while retaining blueprints.
- A server title that says “monthly” describes cadence, but it may not fully describe blueprint policy.
Look specifically for the terms BP wipe, no BP wipe, or a direct administrator announcement. If none appears, ask in the server’s Discord before investing heavily in the previous wipe cycle.

These categories describe common practice, not a universal contract. A custom server can choose an unusual day, wipe only after a particular event, or change its policy between cycles. The server owner’s current notice takes precedence over a directory label.
How to find your server’s real wipe time
- Identify the cadence. Read the in-game listing and determine whether it says weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or custom. If it says only “fresh wipe,” treat that as incomplete information.
- Open the full server description. Look for a time zone, a day of the week, and separate lines for map and blueprint resets. Terms such as “map wipe only” and “BP wipe on force” answer different questions.
- Check the administrator’s Discord. The latest announcement should give the date, expected downtime and whether a map seed or blueprint policy is changing. Prefer a pinned notice over an old countdown message.
- Convert the announced time. Use the stated UTC or GMT time and account for daylight-saving changes in your region. Do not convert a directory’s approximate time and treat it as an official guarantee.
- Plan for the restart window. After the client update, servers may need another 15–30 minutes to return. That range is a typical estimate, not a service-level promise.
- Confirm in-game. When the server returns, check the wipe message, the map seed or monuments and your blueprint list. If only the world changed, the server performed a map wipe without a BP wipe.
What happens on force-wipe day
Before the update
Most servers remain playable until the administrator shuts them down. You may see an in-game warning, a Discord countdown or a temporary lock. Finish any last-minute transfer of resources that the server rules allow, but do not assume a base will survive merely because the server has not yet disconnected players.
During the update
Facepunch publishes the game update, and the server software must match the client version. Attempting to connect before your client finishes updating can produce a version-mismatch error. The server may appear offline, show a maintenance message or repeatedly restart while plugins load.
After the restart
Expect a queue on popular servers, especially when many players are trying to claim high-value locations at the same time. Administrators may temporarily disable features while checking performance. A missing base and a new terrain layout indicate a map reset; they do not by themselves confirm a blueprint reset.

Monthly servers
A monthly map gives a longer building and progression window. It suits players who want time to develop a large base, maintain industrial systems or explore monuments without a reset every Thursday. The trade-off is that late in the cycle, established groups may have a substantial advantage over new arrivals. Check whether the server performs a forced blueprint wipe when Facepunch announces one.

Bi-weekly servers
Bi-weekly communities commonly reset at the monthly force wipe and once again around the middle of the month. This provides a shorter competition cycle while retaining more time than a weekly server. Ask which of the two resets changes the seed and whether the mid-month event is a full map wipe or a limited administrative reset.
Weekly servers
Weekly servers wipe the map every Thursday, giving players a predictable short cycle. They are useful if you enjoy repeated fresh starts or cannot commit to a month-long build. The frequent reset means large projects and long-term stockpiles have less time to pay off. Blueprint progression is commonly retained unless the administrator or Facepunch announces otherwise.
Community and custom schedules
Community servers can set their own day, time, map size, seed policy and blueprint rules. Some align with the monthly update; others wipe on a weekend or after a scheduled event. Read the rules before joining and save the administrator’s announcement channel so that a change is not missed.

Mistake: joining immediately after the client patch fails
Fix: Finish the client update, restart the game if it still reports a version mismatch, and wait for the administrator’s server-restart notice.
Mistake: relying on an old Discord countdown

- Allow at least the administrator’s stated downtime, with 15–30 minutes being a common estimate when no better figure is supplied.
- Prepare a short opening route: spawn, gather basic tools, secure a temporary shelter and identify a defensible long-term location.
- After connecting, verify the world, seed information and blueprint list before assuming the wipe type.
Blueprint wipes and progression planning
A map-only wipe rewards players who have already learned recipes because they can immediately craft advanced items once they gather resources. A blueprint wipe creates a more even progression race, but it also changes how quickly teams can reach weapons, workbenches and defensive structures. Because Facepunch has not committed to a permanent monthly blueprint-wipe schedule, treat every cycle as map-reset planning unless a current announcement says otherwise.
Server administrators may also choose a BP wipe for a community event or a progression rebalance. That local decision can occur independently of the monthly update. The only reliable way to know is to read the current notice or ask the administrator.
Why wipe times are sometimes delayed
- Game-client rollout: Players must receive the same build as the server.
- Server files: The administrator may need to update plugins, configurations or procedural-map settings.
- Validation: A cautious owner may keep the server offline while checking that the new map and spawn system load correctly.
- Demand: Queues and connection failures can make a server appear unavailable even after it has technically restarted.
- Regional timing: A notice written in local time can be misread when daylight-saving rules differ from the reader’s location.
These conditions explain why a posted release time and the moment you can actually enter the server are not always identical.
PC and console schedules are not interchangeable
The recurring first-Thursday guidance in this article concerns PC Rust and Facepunch’s PC update cycle. Rust Console Edition has its own release process and schedule. A console server can therefore reset on a different date or time. Check the official console announcement and the individual server’s notice rather than copying a PC countdown.
