Bass on AirPods can sound lighter than you expect for three common reasons: the earbuds aren’t sealing well, the device/app EQ isn’t boosting low frequencies, or your sound profile settings are flattening the low end.
This guide focuses on methods that reliably increase perceived bass in 2024—using Apple’s built-in tools first, then optimizing fit, then adjusting sound modes, and finally using a system EQ where Apple doesn’t offer one.

Why bass on AirPods feels weak (and what actually changes)
“More bass” usually means one (or more) of these changes:
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible - Replacement Ear Tips for AirPods Pro (2nd Generation/1st Generation) ,AirPods Pro 2nd Generation USB-C Charging Case(2023),Tips: Only compatible with official Apple Devices.
- Noise-Canceling-Airpods pro replacement ear tips have two noise reduction holes on the side, Almost identical to the original tip(other silicone ear tips do not have them), which can reduce noise to keep the best noise reduction effect of the original headphone.
- Dust Guard Screen-Each earbud cover has a built-in dust mesh so that the earbuds won't slip out, even when you're exercising.
- Super comfortable wear-The ear tips are made of high-quality soft silicone material and are ultra-lightweight to ensure long-lasting comfort for your ears.
- Double-end Cleaning Pen: One-piece cleaning pen design : One side pulls down for the open cleaning brush. The other side pulls down for the plush brush bristles and round tip. Convenient dual-ended hidden design, Cleaning pen can also be used to clean mobile phones, keyboards, other electronic devices
- Low-frequency energy goes up (true EQ boost).
- More of the low end is retained in your ear canal (better seal = stronger bass).
- Treble is reduced so bass sounds fuller by contrast.
- Noise control / audio processing shifts the mix (sometimes helping, sometimes making bass feel less tight).
Apple can’t apply a generic system-wide EQ to every app on iPhone the way some Android devices do. That’s why the best iOS option is Headphone Accommodations, and the best “hardware fix” is fit and seal.
Before you start: prerequisites and quick checks
Do these quick checks so you’re not chasing settings that can’t fix the problem.
- Firmware is current: AirPods update automatically when connected and charging. Leave the case open near your iPhone/iPad on Wi‑Fi for a while if you haven’t updated in months.
- Try a bass-heavy track: use a song you know has strong sub-bass (for example, electronic or hip-hop with clean kick + sub). If you test with thin audio, it’s hard to judge improvements.
- Clean the earbuds: wax and debris reduce low end. Use a dry, soft brush; don’t insert metal tools.
- Confirm you’re using the right ear tips (AirPods Pro only). Wrong tip size can cut bass dramatically.
Method 1: Use iPhone or iPad Headphone Accommodations (custom EQ)
This is the most controllable bass method on iOS/iPadOS, because it can apply an EQ-like adjustment to supported audio when you route sound through your headphones.
Works best on iPhone/iPad with iOS 14+ (commonly used in iOS 17/18).
Step-by-step (iPhone or iPad)
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Tap Audio/Visual.
- Tap Headphone Accommodations.
- Turn Headphone Accommodations On.
- If prompted, run the ear fit or setup guidance.
- Choose Custom (or adjust the sliders you see).
Now adjust toward bass-forward without muddying everything. If you see frequency bands, start with:
- Low frequencies: increase moderately (small moves matter).
- High frequencies: reduce slightly if the bass feels “bloomy.”
If there’s a Balance control, keep it centered unless you want a left/right tuning effect.
Rank #2
- Excellent Noise Reduction Function: YUWAKAYI Airpods pro replacement ear tips have two noise reduction holes on the side, which are almost the same as the original(other silicone ear tips do not have them), which can reduce noise to keep the best noise reduction effect of the original headphone
- Dust Guard Screen: Each airpod pro tips has a built-in dust guard screen, Same as Originals,The one-piece molding process makes it more firm and not easy to fall off. There is no need to worry about sweat letting him fall off
- Ultra Comfortable to Wear: The ear tips are made of high-quality soft silicone material with ultra-light weight, ensuring long-lasting comfort to your ears,3 different sizes can meet the different needs of you and your family
- Fits the Airpods Pro Seamless: Perfectly fit into Airpods pro and Airpods Pro 2nd generation, the connection with the ear buds is closer and seamless, you don’t need to worry about the ear tips fall off. At the same time fit for the original AirPods Pro charging case
- Storage Box: 2xSmall,2xMedium,2xLarge, equipped with a storage box for storing 6 ear buds to protect unused ear buds from being lost or soiled
How to tell if it’s helping
- Re-listen to kick drums and sub-bass. Bass should feel more present, not just louder.
- If vocals become less clear, lower the low-frequency boost or raise the mid clarity bands a touch.
Method 2: Apply an EQ preset in Apple Music (and confirm it’s enabled)
Apple Music’s EQ can emphasize low end for tracks it processes. This doesn’t replace fit/seal, but it can add a noticeable bass lift—especially for pop, hip-hop, and electronic.
Enable Apple Music EQ
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap Music.
- Tap EQ.
- Select an EQ preset such as Late Night (often warmer) or a style preset that suits your music.
Then confirm the Apple Music EQ is actually being used for your playback.
What to look for
- If you play music in Apple Music, the EQ setting should apply.
- If you play in other apps (YouTube, Spotify, Podcasts), Apple Music EQ won’t necessarily affect them.
For best results, pick one preset, test 2–3 songs, then switch to a different preset if it gets muddy.
Method 3: Improve the seal and fit (most reliable “bass boost”)
For AirPods with silicone tips, seal is everything. You can boost EQ all day, but if the earbuds aren’t sealing, bass energy escapes and the low end collapses.
This is the one method that often feels like a “real” bass increase even without changing EQ.
AirPods Pro: run the Ear Tip Fit Test
- Put your AirPods Pro in your ears.
- On iPhone, open Settings.
- Tap Bluetooth.
- Tap the info (i) next to your AirPods Pro.
- Tap Ear Tip Fit Test.
- Follow the prompts and note whether each ear tip passes.
If one side fails, try a different tip size. AirPods Pro includes multiple sizes; even a half-size change can restore sub-bass impact.

- Seamless Fit : for AirPods Pro (2nd Generation/1st Generation) ,AirPods Pro 2nd Generation USB-C Charging Case(2023),Tips: Only compatible with official Apple Devices.
- Each ear tip features an integrated dust mesh screen. This design not only prevents earwax and debris from clogging the speaker grill but also ensures the earbuds stay securely in place during vigorous exercise and movement.
- Crafted from high-quality, soft silicone, the ultra-lightweight ear tips conform comfortably to your ear canal. This ergonomic design provides a secure seal and long-lasting comfort, making them perfect for extended listening sessions.
- This dual-ended cleaning tool is your all-in-one solution for maintenance. One end reveals a soft bristle brush for dusting, while the other features a precise metal pick and lint loop.
- Keep your accessories organized and clean. The set includes four pairs of silicone tips (XS/S/M/L) and the cleaning pen, all stored neatly in a compact case. This protects your unused earbud tips from loss, damage, and dirt.
AirPods (non-Pro) and AirPods Max: fit still matters
- AirPods (1st/2nd/3rd gen) don’t use silicone tips, so bass depends on ear positioning. Try reinserting and rotating slightly until they feel stable.
- AirPods Max rely on headband fit and cushion seal. Adjust the band so the ear cushions sit evenly and don’t wobble.
Method 4: Use Noise Control and Spatial Audio settings strategically
Noise control and spatial processing can change how bass is perceived—especially in mixed environments. You’re not “turning bass up” directly, but you can stop processing from making low end feel smeared or distant.
Noise Control: try toggling modes
- Put your AirPods in.
- Open Control Center on iPhone.
- Press and hold the Now Playing tile (or the AirPods audio controls).
- Toggle between Noise Cancellation and Transparency (AirPods Pro/Pro 2) to compare.
In some rooms (especially with hums or echoes), Noise Cancellation can make bass feel tighter. In other cases, it can feel less punchy—if that happens, try Transparency or Off.
Spatial Audio: test with it on and off
- Open Settings > Bluetooth.
- Tap info (i) next to your AirPods.
- Look for Spatial Audio and toggle it.
For bass-heavy tracks, some listeners prefer Spatial Audio off because the mix can shift for perceived depth. If you hear vocals drifting back and bass losing punch, disable it and compare.

Method 5: Add a real equalizer on macOS or Android (third-party EQ)
On iPhone/iPad, Apple limits system-wide EQ across all apps. On macOS and Android, you can often apply a broader EQ to your AirPods audio chain.
Two reliable paths: SoundSource on macOS or Wavelet on Android.
macOS: use SoundSource (system-wide for selected apps/devices)
- Install SoundSource on your Mac.
- Connect your AirPods and confirm they appear as an audio output.
- Open SoundSource and select your AirPods output.
- Enable EQ and choose a preset close to bass boost (or boost low bands mildly).
- Test with your bass-heavy track. If it gets distorted, reduce the low-band gain.
Because macOS can route audio differently per app, you may need to set the EQ for the app you’re testing.

- Four Size Options: Includes Extra Small, Small, Medium, and Large pairs housed neatly in a convenient storage package, making it effortless for you and your family members to find the most customized secure fit
Android: use Wavelet (easy bass emphasis)
- Install Wavelet from the Play Store.
- Connect your AirPods via Bluetooth.
- Open Wavelet and grant any required audio permissions.
- Pick a preset (start with something labeled for bass/low end).
- Adjust the low-frequency sliders down slightly if you hear fuzziness.
Wavelet is often the fastest way to get a true “increase bass” effect on non-Apple devices.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCommon mistakes and what to try instead
- Boosting bass too aggressively: If the low end swells but kick drums lose definition, reduce the bass boost and, if possible, reduce treble slightly for balance.
- Expecting one setting to fix every app: Apple Music EQ won’t necessarily change YouTube or Spotify. Use app-specific EQ or iOS Headphone Accommodations.
- Ignoring tip fit (AirPods Pro): Wrong size tips can remove bass more than any EQ can recover.
- Testing only one song: Different mixes respond differently. Use at least three tracks with different bass types (sub-heavy and kick-heavy).
- Listening too quietly: At lower volume, bass is less perceived. Compare at similar loudness levels.
Troubleshooting when bass still won’t improve
If you tried fit, then EQ, and the sound still feels thin, here’s a practical sequence.
1) Reset the connection and re-select the audio device
- Pause audio and put AirPods back in the case.
- On iPhone/iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
- Tap the info (i) next to your AirPods and choose Forget This Device.
- Reconnect and retry your bass-heavy track.
2) Turn off any competing sound enhancements
- If you use Spatial Audio, switch it off temporarily.
- If you’re using Headphone Accommodations, try toggling it off to confirm it’s the intended change.
3) Try a different ear tip or insertion angle
If you have AirPods Pro, that Ear Tip Fit Test result is your best lead. Even if it “mostly passes,” try the adjacent tip size for a tighter seal.
4) Check for physical damage or clogged vents
Debris in the mesh areas can choke bass. Clean gently and inspect both sides under bright light.
5) Confirm no app EQ is fighting your settings
Some apps have their own EQ (for example, Spotify’s equalizer). If both iOS Headphone Accommodations and an app EQ are boosting lows, it can cancel into muddiness or distortion. Try running only one at a time.

FAQ
Does increasing bass damage AirPods?
Heavy low-frequency boosts can increase distortion at high volume. If you hear crackling or fuzzy bass, reduce the EQ amount or lower volume. Keeping bass boost moderate is safer than extreme gains.

Is there a way to make EQ changes system-wide on iPhone?
Apple doesn’t provide a general-purpose system EQ for all apps. Your most effective built-in option is Headphone Accommodations. For app-specific control, use that app’s EQ (when it has one).
Why does bass sound different between tracks?
Mixing varies. Some songs have boosted sub-bass; others rely on mid-bass or compression. That’s why testing multiple tracks is necessary before deciding a setting is “better.”
Will Noise Cancellation always boost bass?
No. Noise Cancellation can tighten perceived low end in some environments and reduce punch in others. The most accurate approach is A/B testing with the same track.

What if only one AirPod has weak bass?
Clean both earbuds, verify ear tip fit (AirPods Pro), and test with the same track. If the problem persists on one side, resetting and re-pairing can help—or it may indicate a hardware issue.
Bottom Line
If you want the fastest, most reliable bass increase on AirPods in 2024, start with ear tip fit (AirPods Pro) and then use iPhone/iPad Headphone Accommodations to add controlled low-frequency emphasis. That combination typically beats guessing with a single preset.
When you need stronger control across more apps, use third-party EQ on macOS (SoundSource) or Android (Wavelet), and then fine-tune noise control and Spatial Audio to keep the bass tight instead of muddy.
