How to Improve Your HSC-I Pre-Engineering Marks Before HSC-II

Compare your HSC-I result with your board’s current syllabus, focus on weak or prerequisite topics, and track progress with official model papers—without letting revision displace HSC-II work.

You can work on HSC-I marks while preparing for HSC-II, but the right revision plan depends on your board’s current syllabus and exam scheme. Start by comparing your result with that syllabus, repair the topics that are weakest or most important to current lessons, and use official model papers and marking guidance to check whether your practice is working. No study method can guarantee a particular marks increase.

Confirm your board’s syllabus and assessment scheme first

“HSC-I” or “HSSC Part-I” does not identify one uniform syllabus or paper format across Pakistan. Check the board printed on your result card, then use that board’s active scheme for your academic session before choosing chapters or past papers.

For example, BISE Sargodha identifies an active 2025–27 intermediate scheme on its Scheme of Studies HSSC (Inter) page. Other boards publish their own schemes. The Government of Sindh’s DCAR also provides a separate Pre-Engineering Group scheme, illustrating why a chapter list or mark allocation from another board may not fit your course.

Subject marks and practical allocations can differ by board and scheme. In BISE Peshawar’s 2021 science-group scheme, Mathematics is listed as 100 marks, while Physics and Chemistry each have 85 theory marks and 15 practical marks. That is a dated, board-specific example—not a rule for every student or a substitute for checking your current scheme. See the BISE Peshawar HSSC Grade XI–XII Science Group scheme.

Use your HSC-I result to find what needs repair

Do not revise every chapter with equal intensity by default. Put your HSC-I result beside the current syllabus and review marked tests, assignments, or corrected work. For each syllabus area, label it secure, shaky, or not learned. Then identify the main reason marks were lost.

  • Concept gap: You could not explain the idea or choose the right principle.
  • Method gap: You knew the topic but used an unsuitable formula, equation, or solution approach.
  • Execution error: A calculation, sign, unit, algebra step, or chemical equation went wrong.
  • Incomplete answer: You omitted working, a key explanation, or another required part.
  • Timing problem: You left questions unfinished or rushed and made avoidable errors.

This diagnosis is a practical way to plan revision, not a formula that predicts a score gain. If you cannot tell why an answer lost marks, ask your teacher to review one specific example with you.

Balance HSC-I revision with HSC-II coursework

Keep HSC-II lessons and assignments as the base of your weekly study schedule. Add short, regular HSC-I sessions instead of allowing a broad review of last year’s work to take over the time needed for current material.

  1. Ask which foundations matter now. Ask a subject teacher which HSC-I ideas are prerequisites for the HSC-II topics being taught.
  2. Choose a small repair target. Select a weak or prerequisite topic from your syllabus rather than trying to cover several subjects in one sitting.
  3. Schedule a focused session. Set aside a repeatable block of time for reviewing the concept and solving questions without notes.
  4. Record what went wrong. Add missed questions to an error log with the topic, error type, and what you will do differently next time.
  5. Return to HSC-II work. Keep the current year’s lessons moving while you build on the repaired foundation.

The exact number and length of sessions should fit your timetable, remaining time, and current HSC-II workload; the available board materials do not establish a universal weekly schedule.

Practise in a way that fits each pre-engineering subject

Use the topics and requirements in your own board’s syllabus to decide what to practise. Subject-specific exercises can make study more active than rereading notes alone.

Mathematics

Try problems from a blank page before checking a worked example. Show the full method, not only the final answer, so you can spot where algebra, a formula choice, or a calculation breaks down.

Physics

Practise numerical questions as well as written explanations. For a numerical problem, make your reasoning visible; for a theory question, check that the explanation answers what was asked rather than repeating unrelated notes. Follow your board’s scheme for any practical component.

Chemistry

Work on the kinds of questions required by your syllabus, which may include calculations, equations, concepts, and practical requirements. Use the official scheme to confirm which elements apply to your course.

Use official model papers to test progress

Official assessment resources are more useful for exam practice when they match your board, session, and paper format. IBCC lists a 2024 grades 9–12 assessment framework and HSSC subject model papers on its Model Assessment Framework page. BISE Peshawar’s SLO Based Model Papers for HSSC 2025 page lists model papers, marking schemes, and tables of specification for Annual-I 2025 and onward. These are examples of official resources; if your own board provides current materials, use those first.

  1. Choose a current model paper or a representative set of questions for your board and subject.
  2. Attempt it under timed conditions, without looking at the answers while you work.
  3. Mark it against the official marking scheme where one is available.
  4. Log lost marks by cause—such as concept, method, calculation, explanation, or timing—and choose your next revision target from the pattern.
  5. After revising that target, try a comparable set of questions and compare accuracy, completion, and error types.

Use the results to decide what to study next rather than to forecast your eventual board score. If official worked solutions or marking guidance are not available, ask your teacher to check a small selection of answers.

Check board rules before planning an HSC-I re-examination

Improving your preparation for HSC-II is different from formally reappearing in HSC-I papers. Rules on eligibility, timing, subject choices, forms, fees, and deadlines depend on the board and its current notification.

FBISE’s Only For Improvement Candidate document describes options after passing HSSC-II under FBISE conditions; it does not establish a universal right to improve HSC-I marks while studying HSC-II. BISE Lahore’s Intermediate Annual Examination Admissions portal lists marks-improvement options and 2026 examination admission information, but a portal listing alone does not confirm an individual student’s eligibility. Check the current notification or contact your own board’s admissions office before making a re-examination plan.
