Start by choosing a picture mode that suits the room, then correct any stretched or cropped framing. After that, adjust only the picture controls that address what you can see, and compare changes using the same familiar scene. There is no universal numeric preset for QLED TVs: settings and features vary by model, year, and region.
Choose a picture mode for the room
Open Settings > Picture, or use the equivalent path in your TV’s manual if the menu differs. Samsung describes these modes as starting points, not guaranteed best settings for every QLED:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Movie: a starting point for watching in a dark room.
- Filmmaker Mode: intended to show content without picture-setting changes. Samsung cautions that it may look darker than other modes.
- Standard: a general-purpose option.
- Dynamic: a brighter presentation for bright viewing environments.
These descriptions are from Samsung’s US picture-settings guide. A brighter or more vivid image is not necessarily more faithful to the source, so choose according to viewing comfort and preference.
Correct a stretched, cropped, or zoomed image
Fix framing before changing color or contrast. If the picture looks stretched or part of it is missing, open Picture Size Settings and choose an aspect ratio that matches the source. Samsung lists options such as 16:9 Standard, Custom, and 4:3; available choices depend on the model and selected picture size.

Make measured changes in Expert Settings
In Settings > Picture > Expert Settings, change the control that corresponds to the problem you see, then check the same scene again. Samsung defines the controls but does not publish one set of best numerical values for all QLED models.
| Control | What it adjusts | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Backlight | The amount of light the screen produces | Adjust for room brightness and viewing comfort. |
| Brightness | Image brightness | Change cautiously; check whether dark-scene detail remains visible. |
| Contrast | Image contrast | Check bright areas for lost detail as you adjust. |
| Sharpness | Perceived edge definition | Avoid settings that create unnatural outlines. |
| Color and Tint | Color intensity and hue | Use modest changes and watch for unnatural-looking colors. |
Names and availability can differ by TV. If an adjustment makes the image less clear or natural, undo it rather than compensating with another control.

Check motion and contrast features only when relevant
Processing options are model- and input-dependent. Samsung’s support guide lists features including Picture Clarity Settings, Auto Motion Plus, Blur Reduction, Judder Reduction, LED Clear Motion, local dimming, dynamic contrast, gamma, white balance, and color-space controls. Some apply only to certain models or signal types.

Look under Picture Clarity Settings, if present. Compare motion with the feature off and with a modest setting, using the same clip. Motion processing can make movement look smoother but may change the natural cadence of film. Samsung notes that enabling LED/Clear Motion can darken the image. Its guide also restricts Film Mode to certain older signal types, so do not expect to find or use it with every source.

If dark scenes or HDR highlights look wrong
Check the local-dimming or contrast options supported by your model and input. Samsung’s Gulf-region support guide for 98-inch QLED TVs also lists Auto HDR Remastering, but that feature should not be assumed to exist on other models or in other regions. Compare the same dark or bright scene with a setting on and off, watching for preserved shadow and highlight detail rather than simply choosing the more dramatic image. Samsung’s guide to 98-inch QLED features notes that support varies.

If input response matters, enable Game Mode or an automatic Game Mode option where your TV supports it. Samsung says Game Mode may cause “a slight decline in the graphics quality” while optimizing speed. If image fidelity matters more for a particular game, compare the picture with Game Mode enabled and disabled; the available trade-off depends on the model.

Consider calibration after the basic adjustments
Calibration is optional. Samsung describes using Xbox One calibration tools or calibration patterns played from a Blu-ray TV calibration disc. A disc is an option, not a required or Samsung-endorsed product. These approaches can help guide adjustments, but the available support material does not establish a universal picture-quality gain.

Samsung Smart Calibration
Some compatible Samsung TVs can use Smart Calibration through SmartThings. Samsung Hong Kong’s support page says the TV and phone must be on the same Wi-Fi network, the TV must be registered in SmartThings, and the TV-phone combination must be supported. It lists Basic Mode at 15–30 seconds and Professional Mode at 5–8 minutes; these are process-duration estimates, not measured picture improvements. Professional Mode recommends a tripod and dark-room conditions. Compatibility information is regional, so check the support page for your market and model: Samsung Hong Kong Smart Calibration guide.
Compare changes consistently and reset if needed
When deciding between settings, compare the same content and consider room brightness, source fidelity, shadow and highlight detail, motion smoothness, and—if gaming—responsiveness. Change one control at a time so you can tell what helped. If experiments leave the picture confusing or worse, Samsung says Reset Picture is available in Expert Settings. For an unfamiliar menu or feature, consult the manual for the exact model rather than assuming another QLED uses the same path.
