How to Improve FPS and Reduce Lag in BGMI on Android

A practical BGMI Android troubleshooting guide: distinguish frame drops from high ping, optimize graphics, control heat and battery, test Wi-Fi or 4G, and verify 90 or 120 FPS support safely.

Start by identifying the symptom. A low or unstable frame rate makes the picture stutter, while high network latency makes players and actions arrive late. BGMI’s own troubleshooting guidance treats these as different problems: its in-game connection indicator turns yellow or red when ping is high, whereas frame drops are associated with heat, low battery, background activity and graphics settings that exceed the phone’s capability.

Use the sequence below: check the connection indicator, lower the graphics load, close background apps, cool the phone and avoid playing while charging. Only then investigate 90 or 120 FPS eligibility. The official BGMI help articles are older than the current game on many phones, so treat them as a baseline rather than a guarantee for every update or device.

First determine whether the problem is FPS or ping

“Lag” describes several different experiences. Fixing the wrong one wastes time and can make the other worse. Play a short match and observe both the picture and BGMI’s connection indicator.

What you notice Likely cause First check
The camera looks jerky, animation skips, or aiming feels uneven even when players are nearby. Frame-rate instability (FPS drop), often related to graphics load, heat, battery state or background processes. Lower the graphics preset and frame-rate option; check phone temperature and battery.
Players teleport, shots register late, or doors and loot respond after a delay. Network latency or packet loss. Look at BGMI’s connection indicator. Yellow or red means high ping according to BGMI’s help guidance.
Both the image and online actions become worse after a long session. Heat can reduce frame rate, while a congested or unstable connection can add latency. Cool the phone, stop charging, then test another Wi-Fi or 4G connection separately.

Do not describe a yellow or red connection indicator as an FPS problem. Conversely, changing networks will not repair a phone that is thermally throttling or rendering beyond its hardware capability.

Use this order of operations

  1. Check the in-game signal. Enter a match, note the indicator and test a different Wi-Fi network or 4G connection if it is yellow or red.
  2. Reduce rendering load. In BGMI, open the graphics settings and choose a lower quality level and a frame-rate option that the game offers for your device.
  3. Remove background load. Close other apps and restart the phone if the problem persists.
  4. Control heat and battery state. Do not play while the phone is overheating or charging. Let it cool, then test again.
  5. Check high-FPS eligibility. Use the appearance of BGMI’s 90 FPS or Ultra Extreme option as the eligibility test, not the refresh-rate number printed on the phone’s box.
  6. Contact in-game support. If an eligible 90 or 120 FPS selection still does not apply after the game and device settings are configured, use BGMI’s support channel.

Reduce graphics load without sacrificing more quality than necessary

Start with the frame-rate option

Frame rate is the number of images rendered each second. A higher setting can make camera movement and aiming feel smoother, but it also asks the GPU and CPU to do more work. If the phone cannot sustain the selected rate, an unstable high setting feels worse than a lower, consistent one.

Open BGMI’s graphics page and select a frame-rate tier that is actually available. If stutter starts after choosing a higher tier, step down one level and replay the same type of match. There is no single official “best” preset for every Android phone; BGMI warns that settings beyond the device’s hardware capability can cause lag.

Lower visual quality before chasing a higher frame rate

If the game remains uneven, reduce the graphics-quality setting first, then retest. This lowers the amount of work required for each frame. Change one setting group at a time so you can tell which change helped. Keep the option that produces stable motion during a full match rather than judging only the first minute in the lobby.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not force hidden presets

Unofficial configuration files, “FPS unlockers” and modified clients can be incompatible with the game and may create account or security risks. The supported test is the option shown in BGMI’s own Graphics settings. If a tier is absent, assume the current game-and-device combination is not eligible for that tier.

Enable 90 FPS when BGMI offers it

BGMI’s official 90 FPS guide gives this path: Settings > Graphics & Audio > Smooth > 90 FPS. The 90 FPS choice must appear in the Graphics settings on a supported device. A high-refresh display by itself does not prove that BGMI can render at 90 frames per second.

  1. Open BGMI and tap Settings.
  2. Open Graphics & Audio.
  3. Choose the Smooth graphics style if that is the style required by the available 90 FPS option.
  4. Select 90 FPS and apply the change.
  5. Play a complete match while watching for heat and renewed stutter. If the game becomes less stable, return to the lower frame-rate tier that remains consistent.

The official guide also describes refresh-rate controls in Android settings for several manufacturers. Those menus differ by model and software version, so use your phone’s display or refresh-rate setting only when the 90 FPS choice is present in BGMI. Menu labels can change after an Android update.

Understand the 120 FPS “Ultra Extreme” requirement

For 120 FPS, BGMI’s guide says that Ultra Extreme must appear under Graphics settings. If it does not appear, the guide says the device does not support 120 FPS in that configuration. The feature is limited to selected high-refresh-rate devices whose hardware and software meet the game’s requirements.

  1. Open Settings in BGMI and go to Graphics or Graphics & Audio.
  2. Look for the Ultra Extreme frame-rate option.
  3. If it is present, select it and apply the setting.
  4. If it is absent, do not attempt to force it with an external tool; use a supported lower tier.
  5. If it is present but does not take effect after the game and phone refresh-rate settings are configured, contact BGMI through in-game support.

A 120 Hz panel can display up to 120 refreshes per second, but that specification does not establish BGMI compatibility or sustained 120 FPS performance. Eligibility is determined by the option BGMI exposes for the exact model and software combination.

Reduce heat and avoid thermal frame drops

BGMI says that temperature control can decrease frame rate when the phone overheats. It also identifies low battery as a frame-drop factor, stating: “When the battery is low, the frame rate will drop, resulting in lag and frame drop.”

  • Stop playing while the phone is charging, especially during a long match.
  • Remove a thick case temporarily if it traps heat around the phone.
  • Move out of direct sun and away from other heat sources.
  • Let the device return to a normal temperature before testing performance again.
  • Keep the battery from reaching a critically low state before a long session.

A clip-on smartphone cooler is an optional consideration only for a phone that repeatedly overheats after these basic changes. BGMI’s guidance supports the connection between heat and lower frame rate, but there is no established guarantee that any particular cooler or accessory will produce a specific FPS improvement.

Close background apps and restart Android

Other running applications compete for memory, CPU time, network activity and sometimes sustained power. BGMI’s baseline advice is to close running apps and restart the phone when necessary.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Save or pause anything important, then open Android’s recent-apps view.
  2. Close apps you are not using, particularly those with active video, downloads, navigation or recording tasks.
  3. Restart the phone if the game has been running through several sessions or still stutters after apps are closed.
  4. Launch BGMI before reopening optional apps and test the same graphics setting again.

Do not assume that a third-party “RAM cleaner” improves gaming. Aggressive cleaners can close useful services and force apps to reload. The relevant test is whether BGMI is stable after ordinary app closure and a restart.

Fix high ping separately

If BGMI’s indicator is yellow or red, test the connection rather than lowering graphics. BGMI recommends trying another connection such as Wi-Fi or 4G and comparing the signal in a match.

Wi-Fi checks

  • Move closer to the router or test a less congested network.
  • Pause large downloads, cloud backups and video streams on the same connection.
  • Compare one match on Wi-Fi with one on 4G in the same location.

4G checks

  • Test where cellular reception is strong and stable.
  • Check whether another app is consuming the mobile-data connection.
  • Compare the in-game indicator, not just the signal bars shown by Android.

A faster-looking connection is not automatically a lower-latency connection. Keep the network that produces the more stable in-game indicator and fewer delayed actions.

Check Android power settings without treating them as magic fixes

Google’s Battery Saver documentation says the mode may limit visual effects and can cause delays in some features, network connections and apps. If a phone-specific problem appears only with Battery Saver enabled, test BGMI with that mode off and compare. This is a diagnostic step, not a universal BGMI FPS solution.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Android’s game-mode documentation, updated February 26, 2026, also describes platform and manufacturer interventions. On Android 13 and later, FPS throttling is intended to stabilize frame rate and reduce battery consumption. The same documentation says backbuffer resizing can reduce GPU load by up to 30% and overall system power use by up to 10%, under applicable conditions. These are conditional Android platform estimates, not a prediction of FPS gains in BGMI and not evidence that a user-facing toggle will improve every phone. Do not enable an OEM game-mode option solely because those figures exist; compare actual in-game stability after any change.

Run a controlled before-and-after test

Make troubleshooting measurable instead of changing five settings at once. Write down the selected graphics quality, frame-rate tier, approximate battery level, whether the phone feels hot and the connection-indicator color. Play a comparable full match, then change one variable and repeat. For example, test the same frame-rate tier with lower visual quality before moving to a different network.

Judge the result during movement, aiming and a busy fight, not only in the lobby. A setting that looks smooth for the first minute but stutters after the phone warms up is not a stable solution. If a network swap changes delayed actions but not visual smoothness, keep the network change and continue graphics troubleshooting separately. If lowering quality removes stutter while the indicator stays yellow, you have two independent problems rather than one failed fix.

What each change can and cannot fix

Change Most relevant symptom What it cannot guarantee
Lower graphics quality or frame rate Jerky camera motion and uneven aiming caused by rendering load. It cannot lower network latency or add an FPS tier BGMI does not expose.
Close apps and restart Stutter that follows long use or heavy background activity. It cannot overcome a device’s hardware limit or a congested network.
Stop charging and cool the phone Performance that declines as the handset heats up. It cannot guarantee a fixed temperature or a particular FPS value.
Switch Wi-Fi and 4G Yellow or red in-game connection status and delayed actions. It does not repair thermal throttling or graphics overload.
Disable Battery Saver for a test Phone-specific delays or reduced visual effects while the mode is active. It is not a universal BGMI performance fix.

When a cooler or new phone is worth considering

Consider a clip-on smartphone cooler only after ordinary steps have addressed charging, direct sunlight, case insulation, background apps and graphics load. Treat it as an optional heat-management accessory: no tested product or guaranteed FPS increase is established here, so compare the phone’s behavior before and after use rather than buying on a promised number.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

An upgrade makes sense when the current device never shows the desired 90 FPS or Ultra Extreme option, or cannot sustain a supported tier without severe heat-related drops. Before paying for a phone, verify BGMI eligibility on the exact model and software combination. Compare display refresh rate, sustained thermal behavior and real-match stability as well as headline specifications. A high-refresh panel alone is insufficient.

What to do when an update or setting change makes performance worse

Stutter starts immediately after selecting a higher FPS tier

Return to the previous tier, keep the same graphics quality, and replay a comparable match. If the lower tier is stable, the phone is likely unable to sustain the higher workload under current temperature and battery conditions.

The option disappeared

Check that the game is updated, then reopen Graphics settings after a restart. If 90 FPS or Ultra Extreme is still absent, treat the missing option as an eligibility limitation rather than a setting that can be unlocked safely.

The phone is cool but the indicator remains yellow or red

Switch between Wi-Fi and 4G and compare a match on each. If only one connection is affected, the problem is network-specific rather than a rendering problem.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

90 or 120 FPS is shown but does not apply

Verify the relevant Android refresh-rate setting, restart BGMI and test again. If the supported option still fails, follow BGMI’s instruction to contact in-game support. Avoid modified clients and external unlock tools.

How to compare phones for BGMI

If the current phone cannot expose the desired tier, compare devices using evidence that matters in the game rather than a display specification alone.

Comparison point Why it matters How to verify
BGMI FPS eligibility The game controls which tiers are available for the exact model and software. Check whether the desired option appears in BGMI on that exact model.
Display refresh rate A higher refresh rate is necessary for high-refresh presentation but does not guarantee BGMI support. Confirm the panel specification, then verify the in-game option.
Sustained thermal performance A phone may start fast and reduce performance after it heats up. Look for stable performance through a long session, not only a short benchmark.
Real-play stability Average FPS alone can hide repeated drops and uneven frame pacing. Test movement, aiming and a full match under normal room conditions.

No current model-by-model compatibility roster or independent device test establishes a universal recommendation here. Verify support in BGMI before buying for a specific FPS target.

Frequently asked questions

Why does BGMI feel delayed when my FPS looks smooth?

Delayed shots, teleporting players and late door or loot responses point to network latency or packet loss. Check BGMI’s indicator; yellow or red means high ping in its help guidance. Compare Wi-Fi and 4G rather than lowering graphics first.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does a 120 Hz Android screen guarantee 120 FPS in BGMI?

No. BGMI says 120 FPS is limited to selected devices and requires the Ultra Extreme option to appear under Graphics. The screen specification is only one requirement; the game’s exact model-and-software eligibility controls the option.

Why can’t I find 90 FPS?

The 90 FPS choice must appear in BGMI’s Graphics settings on a supported device. If it is absent after a restart and update check, do not use an unlocker. A high-refresh display does not prove that the game supports 90 FPS on that phone.

Should Battery Saver be turned off?

Test with it off if the problem occurs only while Battery Saver is enabled. Google says Battery Saver can limit visual effects and delay some features, network connections and apps. Turning it off is a diagnostic comparison, not a guaranteed FPS fix.

Is it safe to play BGMI while charging?

BGMI advises avoiding play while charging and avoiding overheated conditions. Charging can add heat, and the game says temperature control can decrease frame rate. Let the phone cool before retesting.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will a RAM-cleaner app improve FPS?

There is no guarantee. BGMI’s baseline step is to close running apps and restart when necessary. Aggressive cleaners may close useful services and force apps to reload, so compare ordinary app closure with the cleaner removed.

How do I know whether a phone cooler helped?

Use the same graphics settings and a comparable full match before and after attaching it. Look for sustained smoothness as the phone warms, not a promised FPS number. No particular cooler has a guaranteed improvement in this guidance.

What should I include in a support request?

Report whether the symptom was visual stutter, delayed online action or both; the indicator color; graphics and frame-rate selections; battery and heat state; whether apps were closed and Android restarted; the Wi-Fi and 4G comparison; and whether 90 FPS or Ultra Extreme appeared. If an eligible option still fails after game and device settings are configured, BGMI directs players to in-game support.

Quick checklist before contacting support

  • Was the problem visual stutter, delayed online action, or both?
  • What color was BGMI’s connection indicator during the problem?
  • Which graphics-quality and frame-rate options were selected?
  • Was the phone hot, charging or at a low battery level?
  • Were other apps closed and was Android restarted?
  • Was the same match tested on Wi-Fi and 4G?
  • Did 90 FPS or Ultra Extreme actually appear in BGMI’s Graphics settings?

Include these details when using in-game support. They give support a reproducible description instead of the single word “lag.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the fastest first step for BGMI lag on Android?

Check BGMI’s connection indicator, then separate network symptoms from visual stutter. Yellow or red indicates high ping; jerky motion usually calls for graphics, heat or background-load checks.

Can I force 90 or 120 FPS if the option is missing?

No. BGMI uses the appearance of 90 FPS or Ultra Extreme as the eligibility check. Avoid modified clients and external unlock tools.

Does lowering graphics always improve ping?

No. Lowering graphics reduces rendering work and may improve FPS stability, but high ping requires testing Wi-Fi or 4G.

What if an eligible FPS option still does not work?

Configure the game and phone refresh-rate settings, restart and test again. If the supported selection still fails, contact BGMI through in-game support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Diagnose before changing settings: yellow or red BGMI indicators point to high ping, while jerky motion points to FPS instability. Lower graphics to a tier your phone can sustain, close apps, restart, avoid heat and charging, and test Wi-Fi against 4G. Treat 90 FPS and 120 FPS as device-and-game eligibility features—the option must appear in BGMI—and use in-game support instead of unofficial unlock tools when a supported setting fails.
