Start with Adaptive Power, then use Settings > Battery to identify what is draining your iPhone Air before changing more settings. For an immediate boost, turn on Low Power Mode; if battery life remains poor after an iOS update has had several days to finish background work, check Battery Health.
Start with Adaptive Power
Adaptive Power is on by default on iPhone Air. It adjusts power use automatically based on recent usage patterns. When needed, it can make performance adjustments, slightly lower screen brightness, limit background activity, and turn on Low Power Mode when the battery reaches 20%.

To check it, go to Settings > Battery > Power Mode. Adaptive Power needs at least seven days to learn your charging habits before it engages. If you have only just started using the phone or changed your routine, give it time. Apple Support explains how Adaptive Power works.

For a more immediate reduction in power use, go to Settings > Battery > Power Mode and turn on Low Power Mode. It limits selected activity, including Background App Refresh, Mail fetch, automatic downloads, and some visual effects. Apple also describes reduced screen brightness and a 30-second Auto-Lock while the mode is on.

These changes can make the phone less convenient: for example, some content may not update or download until you use the app or charge the phone. Low Power Mode turns off automatically once the iPhone reaches 80%. See Apple’s Low Power Mode instructions for details.
Find what is using battery before changing more settings
Open Settings > Battery and review the suggestions, battery insights, and usage information shown for your iPhone. Start with the apps or activities the phone identifies; a high-demand app or period of heavy use may matter more than a general setting.

If battery life dropped after an iOS update
Some update-related tasks can continue in the background after installation. If the change began immediately after updating, Apple recommends waiting several days and checking again before treating it as a persistent battery problem. Its battery-drain troubleshooting guidance also explains where to review usage and battery health.
If the drain continues
In Settings > Battery, check Battery Health. Apple says a Service indicator is a reason to consider battery replacement. This is different from a short-lived increase in drain after an update: it points to a battery service consideration rather than a setting to toggle.

Reduce screen and cellular power use
- Dim the display: Lower brightness when a bright screen is not needed, or enable Auto-Brightness so the display can respond to ambient light.
- Prefer Wi-Fi for data when available: Apple says Wi-Fi uses less power than cellular data when accessing data.
These are practical ways to reduce demand, but Apple does not specify a fixed number of extra hours they will provide on iPhone Air. The result depends on how you use the phone. See Apple’s battery performance recommendations.
Know what Apple’s runtime figures mean
Apple lists up to 27 hours of video playback and up to 22 hours of streamed video playback for iPhone Air. These are Apple’s specified playback estimates, not a promise of the same amount of mixed-use screen time. Messaging, camera use, gaming, cellular reception, and other activity create a different usage pattern. Apple defines battery life as the time a device works before it needs recharging; its iPhone Air technical specifications provide the playback figures.

Apple’s 2025 launch announcement described iPhone Air as delivering “fantastic all-day battery life.” That is Apple’s product claim, not an independent test result, and it cannot guarantee a particular day’s runtime for every user. Software changes cost nothing and require no accessory, while the MagSafe Battery requires a purchase. Adaptive Power works automatically; Low Power Mode is a deliberate conservation choice or may be activated by Adaptive Power. The accessory adds a separate power source without relying on Low Power Mode’s background and display tradeoffs.
