Start by checking which apps are using power, then make small changes to the settings that matter most: reduce screen use, restrict unusually active background apps, and use Battery Saver when you need extra runtime. For long-term battery care, use any charging-health feature your model provides and follow OnePlus’s charging guidance. Menu names and features vary by OnePlus model and OxygenOS version, so look for the equivalent controls on your phone.
1. Find out what is using the battery
Before switching off features or restricting apps, check battery usage. On many OnePlus phones, start at Settings > Battery and open the battery-use view. Review activity since the last full charge, looking for apps or processes with unusually high use—especially background use when you were not actively using the app.

OnePlus manuals for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus Open describe battery-usage details and app optimization controls, but they do not establish one menu layout for every model. If the labels differ, search Settings for “Battery” or “App battery management.” Restrict only apps that stand out, then check usage again. Limiting an app can affect background updates, syncing, or notifications, so avoid applying restrictions indiscriminately.

2. Reduce screen power use
The display is a practical place to save power without disabling apps. In your phone’s Display settings, consider lowering brightness, enabling adaptive brightness, and shortening the time before the screen turns off. Dark theme is another option to try if you prefer it. The precise controls and their effect depend on the device and how you use it; these changes do not guarantee a particular number of extra hours.

3. Turn on Battery Saver when you need it
Battery Saver is useful for a long day or when the remaining charge needs to last. OnePlus manuals explain that it can extend battery life by turning off some device features and restricting apps. Those restrictions may delay background activity or notifications, so use it when that trade-off is worthwhile rather than assuming it must stay on all the time.
Some models offer a battery-level trigger or an automatic shutoff setting; availability and wording vary. Check Settings > Battery for Battery Saver options and choose a trigger only if it suits your routine.

4. Use charging-health features your model supports
Check Settings > Battery or Battery health for an optimized-charging or charging-limit option. If your phone offers one, use its description to decide whether the trade-off fits your routine: a charging-health feature may change when or how far the phone charges, which can mean less charge immediately available at some times.

5. Charge within OnePlus’s recommended conditions
OnePlus Support advises keeping the surrounding temperature between 5°C and 35°C while the phone is charging. It recommends avoiding excessive charging or depletion, charging when the low-battery reminder appears, unplugging after the phone is fully charged, and using the original charger. If you still have the charger supplied with your phone, this guidance is not a reason to buy another one.
For long-term storage—not everyday charging—OnePlus advises leaving the battery above 60%, keeping the phone in a cool, dry place, and recharging it every four or five months.

6. If a new phone still drains unusually fast
Check battery usage again and note which apps or processes are consuming power, including when the screen is off. Apply app restrictions selectively and see whether the pattern changes. Community suggestions to drain the phone completely, leave it plugged in beyond a full charge, or wait for software to “calibrate” are not established OnePlus fixes. If the drain remains unusual, contact OnePlus Support with your model and OxygenOS version for model-specific troubleshooting.
