To make a Dell XPS 13 last longer on its current charge, lower screen brightness, turn on Windows Battery Saver when you need it, and check which apps are using the most power. Make these quick changes to extend the current charge
Lower screen brightness

Turn on Battery Saver when you need more time
Use Windows Battery Saver when you are away from an outlet and runtime matters more than background activity. It is a reversible, low-risk change; turn it off again if you need your usual background behavior. The exact Windows menus can differ by version, so use Windows Settings search for “Battery Saver” or “Energy saver” if the label or path on your device differs.
Find power-hungry apps before closing them
Open Windows battery usage and review the per-app list to see whether one application is consuming unusually high power. Close only apps you recognize and do not need. An unfamiliar process may support Windows, a driver, or another app, so do not end it just because its name is unfamiliar.

Consider Turbo Boost only if the basic steps are not enough
Dell says disabling Intel Turbo Boost can increase runtime, but reduces maximum performance. Treat this as an optional tradeoff, not a routine first step: demanding work may feel slower, and the relevant BIOS option may not be available on every XPS 13.
Before changing firmware settings, identify your exact XPS 13 model and consult its Dell documentation. Do not assume a BIOS menu or option described for one generation exists on another. Dell’s runtime article describes the tradeoff but does not promise a specific runtime gain.

Check battery health if runtime is still unexpectedly short
Short runtime can reflect battery condition rather than a setting that needs changing. Check battery health using the diagnostic or battery-management options available for your exact Dell model. Dell’s battery guidance discusses battery health alongside power-management practices.
If health information indicates significant wear, contact Dell or a qualified service provider about service. A replacement battery must match the exact XPS 13 generation and part; “XPS 13” alone is not enough to establish compatibility. Confirm the part against your service tag and warranty or service options before buying or installing anything.

Choose the next step based on the problem
- You need more time today: Lower brightness, enable Battery Saver, and review app battery usage.
- Performance can be traded for runtime: Check whether your exact model supports the Turbo Boost change and review its consequences before adjusting BIOS settings.
- The laptop is usually plugged in: Look for supported Dell charging-management controls rather than expecting them to add runtime to the current charge.
- Runtime is poor despite sensible settings: Check battery health, then pursue service or a verified model-matched replacement if wear is indicated.
