In DMZ, a completed death normally costs you the nonpermanent items in your Backpack. Contraband weapons are permanently lost, while a Weapon Blueprint becomes temporarily inaccessible. Items you successfully extract are stored for later runs. An unintended disconnect is different: the official DMZ rules cited here do not confirm whether it costs your gear or lets you rejoin.
What happens if you are downed, then revived?
Being downed is not the same as completing a death. Call of Duty’s official DMZ overview says squadmates can revive a downed Operator, giving the squad a chance to save that run before the death-loss rules apply. The overview describes DMZ as a single-life mode, but does not provide further detail about every revive situation. Call of Duty’s DMZ overview was published November 14, 2022.

What gear do you lose when you die?
On completed death, the published baseline is loss of the nonpermanent items in your Backpack. Call of Duty describes Contraband weapons as the main items permanently lost on death. A Weapon Blueprint is not permanently lost; instead, it becomes inaccessible for a period, usually a few hours. The overview does not specify the duration more exactly.

These rules distinguish a Contraband weapon from a Blueprint weapon; they do not mean every item is permanently erased when you die.

Does a Secure Backpack protect your items?
There is a limited exception. In its Season 03 overview, Call of Duty says eligible items in a Secure Backpack are kept for that Active Duty Soldier if the Operator is eliminated in an Extraction Zone. The exception is specific to the Secure Backpack and that soldier: it should not be treated as protection for all inventory or as a general guarantee for every kind of loss. What happens to gear when you extract—or miss final exfil?
Successful extraction
Items successfully extracted from DMZ, including cash, weapons and other items, go into Storage for use between matches, according to Call of Duty’s November 2022 overview. Exfil is the route the overview identifies for getting out with what you have collected.

Final exfil leaves without you
If Operators remain when the final exfil leaves, the overview says they are listed as MIA. It does not describe that result as a successful extraction, so do not count on it to bank carried items in Storage.

What happens if you disconnect from DMZ?
The official DMZ overview explains death and extraction, but does not say whether an unintended disconnect preserves your gear, counts as a death, or allows a rejoin. Call of Duty’s Season 04 patch notes document a reconnect window for Ranked Play; that is a separate mode and does not establish a DMZ reconnect rule. See the Season 04 patch notes.

Accordingly, the disconnect outcome is unconfirmed by these official sources. Do not assume that a disconnect either returns your items or triggers the same loss as a completed death.
