To improve with Tekken 8’s Practice Mode, take one mistake from a match, recreate the situation, drill one response, then check for that situation in a later match. Use replay review to identify what went wrong, and choose a focused drill—such as a combo input, punishment, or throw escape—instead of trying to learn an entire character’s move list at once.
Start with one problem from a match
After a set, describe a specific moment: you were hit by the same low, blocked an attack without punishing it, dropped a combo after a launcher, or were thrown repeatedly. A clear problem gives you something concrete to reproduce and work on.

Open My Replays & Tips to review the exchange. The game may surface suggested actions, including higher-damage combos, guaranteed counterattacks, throws, and high attacks that can be avoided by crouching. Treat a suggestion as a candidate response to investigate, not an automatic answer for every situation.

Practice Mode can repeat moves, combos, guaranteed counterattacks, and specific situations. Match the tool to the kind of mistake: input accuracy is different from choosing the right response to an opponent.

Repair execution errors before drilling the whole sequence
Learn a move with the Command List
If the response requires a move you do not know, find it in the Command List and use the demonstration and timing audio cues. Focus first on performing that action reliably; the wider match situation can come next.
Use Combo Challenges to find a dropped input
When a combo fails, do not blindly repeat the entire sequence. Combo Challenges show accurate and inaccurate commands, helping you locate the part that needs attention. Drill the smallest failing section. If a difficult combo segment needs repeated attempts, use a saved Practice state to return to it.

Practice punishment and throw escapes
Turn a blocked move into a punishment drill
Use punishment proficiency practice to guard the specific attack and then land the recommended response. To rehearse a repeatable exchange, configure the opponent to counterattack; the official Practice documentation describes this as a way to simulate responding with counterattacks.

Set up Throw Break Training
If throws are the problem, open Throw Break Training, select a difficulty that fits your current ability, and choose the opponent’s throw moves. Practice identifying and escaping them. Bandai Namco described the feature in its v2.04 patch notes.

Test the response in context
Once the drill is repeatable, return to My Replays & Tips. You can practice from a displayed tip or use the feature’s ten-second retry window to try a different decision around the relevant moment. Then take that response into matches and watch for the same situation. Repetition in training helps isolate the task; it does not guarantee a win or prove that the response will be available under match pressure.
Keep each practice session focused
- Name the problem: Write down one concrete event from a match.
- Recreate and diagnose it: Review the exchange or use the matching Practice tool to identify the decision or input that failed.
- Drill the smallest useful action: Work on the move, combo segment, punishment, or throw escape involved.
- Check it in context: Use a replay tip or retry where useful, then look for the situation in a later match.
A tiny log can make the loop easier to repeat: note the problem, the drill you used, and whether the response felt repeatable. This is a practical tracking suggestion, not a game feature or a scientifically established formula. No particular number of repetitions or practice duration is established here.
Choose the right kind of practice
- Execution or decision: Combo Challenges focus on command accuracy; replay review and punishment practice help you work on which response to choose.
- Known or unclear situation: Use the Command List or Combo Challenges to learn a known action. Use replay review to investigate an issue that appeared in a real exchange.
- Broad execution or matchup-specific response: Command timing and combo execution can transfer across situations, while a particular punishment setup, recorded exchange, or throw drill targets a narrower response.
- Repetition or match context: Practice Mode isolates a task. Replay retries and later matches let you check the decision in context.
Version and replay-data caveat
Bandai Namco’s TEKKEN 8 Patch Notes v3.00, dated March 17, 2026, identify Ver.3.00.00. Those notes say Practice can restart while switching character positions and that the Practice menu opens and closes faster. They also warn that pre-update My Replay & Tips and downloaded replay data may no longer be playable, and online replay data created before the update will be deleted. Controls and compatibility can change in later updates, so check the current in-game version if a menu or replay behaves differently.
