To move your history from Toggl Track to Clockify, export CSV files from Toggl Track’s Detailed Report, then upload them through Clockify’s workspace Import tab. Before importing, confirm the right Toggl workspace and date range, invite destination users, and make sure their email addresses match the CSV. Clockify requires a paid subscription or an available free trial to import time entries.
Before you export: check the product, workspace, and access
These steps apply to Toggl Track, not Toggl 2.0 (Focus), which is a separate product with separate export options and API. In Toggl Track, switch to the workspace containing the records you want to move. What appears in an export also depends on your permissions: an admin can export all entries in the workspace, while an ordinary member can export only entries they can access. Check both services’ plan requirements before preparing files. Toggl Track’s Free plan supports PDF exports only; CSV export requires a paid plan, according to its export guide. Clockify says time-entry imports require a paid subscription, or you can activate a free trial; confirm current terms in the product before you begin (Clockify’s Toggl importer instructions).

- Set the duration format. In your Toggl Track profile settings, choose the Improved duration format. Toggl recommends this for the Detailed Report CSV workflow (Toggl’s workspace transfer guidance).
- Open Detailed Report and select a date range. Export the report as CSV. Toggl documents a maximum Detailed Report range of one year, so export separate date ranges for any history spanning longer than a year. Keep track of the periods covered so you can check for gaps after import (Toggl’s workspace transfer guidance).
- Save each export as its own CSV file. Use the correct source workspace and a range that includes the records you intend to migrate. If you do not have CSV export access, check the Toggl plan and your workspace permissions before proceeding.
Prepare Clockify users and check the CSV
Invite the destination workspace members before importing team entries. Clockify warns that records may be skipped if the email address in the CSV does not match an invited user in the Clockify workspace (Clockify’s migration guide).

Clockify lists these minimum CSV columns: Email, Project, Client, Description, Start Date, Start Time, and Duration. Dates can use MM/DD/YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD; duration should use HH:MM:SS. If a project named in the CSV does not already exist in Clockify, the importer can create it. Check the header names and values against Clockify’s migration guide before uploading.
Import the CSV into Clockify
- In the Clockify web app, click the dots next to the workspace name and open Workspace settings.
- Open the Import tab and upload a CSV export.
- Review the import preview and resolve any errors before committing the import. Clockify says its Toggl importer analysis identifies projects, clients, tags, and tasks that need to be created (Clockify’s Toggl importer instructions).
- Import the file. Repeat for each CSV covering another date range.
Validate the imported records
Do not treat a completed upload as proof that every intended entry arrived correctly. For each exported period, compare date coverage and expected entry counts, then spot-check the fields that determine how records will be used:

- Correct Clockify user attribution and matching email address.
- Start date, start time, duration, and resulting time-entry placement.
- Project and client assignment, plus any relevant task or tag.
- Entries with identical timestamps or otherwise similar data, and any records flagged in the preview.
This check matters because import behavior can affect records that look identical. Toggl’s CSV import guide says entries identical in email, description, project, task, client, tags, and billable status are distinguished only when their start date or time differs; entries matching across those fields and start time are merged. That describes Toggl’s importer, not a guarantee of Clockify’s deduplication behavior, so check the Clockify preview and resulting records rather than assuming the two products handle duplicates alike. Toggl also says its importer ignores end date and end time and calculates them from start time and duration. Verify Clockify’s resulting entries instead of assuming every exported field maps identically (Toggl’s CSV import guide).
When to consider an alternative transfer tool
Clockify lists three free community tools for Toggl-to-Clockify transfers: a command-line tool for single-user transfers, a web-interface version, and a Python script that supports multiple users. Clockify says these tools are not developed by Clockify and should be used at your discretion (Clockify’s Toggl importer instructions). The CSV workflow is the standard supported route; consider a community tool only if its capabilities suit your case and you are comfortable evaluating third-party software.
