If you already have a Pocket export, extract its saved URLs into a text file and pass that file to ArchiveBox with archivebox add < your_urls.txt. This imports URLs for archiving; current ArchiveBox documentation does not guarantee that Pocket tags, favorites, or other CSV metadata will be preserved. Mozilla’s Pocket export period ended on November 12, 2025, so this guide assumes you already have an export or another accessible list of your saved links.
What you need before you start
- An existing Pocket CSV export, or another accessible list of the URLs you want to archive. Pocket shut down on July 8, 2025, and Mozilla’s stated export deadline was November 12, 2025.
- An installed ArchiveBox collection. Its current overview documents Docker Compose and
uvsetup options; follow the current instructions for your platform. - A URL-only text file in the collection’s data folder. ArchiveBox documents importing URL-bearing text through standard input.
Mozilla described its official export as a CSV of saved links, archives, and favorites. It did not contain saved article text, tags, or highlights. If you need those details, the CSV alone cannot supply them.

Prepare the Pocket URLs
ArchiveBox’s documented file-import pattern reads URLs from standard input. The current documentation reviewed for this workflow does not specify which Pocket CSV columns ArchiveBox recognizes, so do not assume you can feed every export directly to ArchiveBox and have it map the right field or preserve metadata.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open your existing Pocket CSV in a spreadsheet or text editor.
- Identify the column containing the saved URLs.
- Copy those URLs, one per line, into a plain-text file named
your_urls.txt. Remove the header row and any non-URL fields. - Save the file in your ArchiveBox collection’s data folder, or note its full path for the import command.
For example, the text file should contain one URL on each line:

This preparation step is a practical way to provide the URL list ArchiveBox documents; it is not a claim that ArchiveBox currently parses Pocket CSV columns or maps Pocket metadata.
Import the URL file
From the ArchiveBox collection’s data folder, run the documented standard-input pattern:

archivebox add < your_urls.txt
If the file is elsewhere, provide its path instead, for example archivebox add < /path/to/your_urls.txt. ArchiveBox creates snapshot folders for URLs that are added. Check the collection’s filesystem or web interface to confirm that the expected URLs appear.
What imports—and what may not
- URLs: ArchiveBox’s current overview says it can ingest URL-bearing text files and lists Pocket among supported bookmarking-service inputs.
- Article text and highlights: They are not included in Mozilla’s described official Pocket CSV export. ArchiveBox may save representations of the live page when it captures a URL, but that is distinct from recovering Pocket’s saved article text or highlights.
- Tags, favorites, and other Pocket fields: The current ArchiveBox pages reviewed do not establish which Pocket CSV columns are recognized or whether these fields are mapped. Validate the exact export against the ArchiveBox version you use if metadata matters.
A detailed Pocket parser reference found for ArchiveBox 0.4.1 is historical compatibility information, not a current guarantee. Do not rely on it as proof of current CSV metadata handling.

Verify the archive and protect private material
After the command finishes, inspect the collection in its filesystem or web interface and confirm the expected URLs have snapshot folders. ArchiveBox can save multiple representations—such as HTML, PDF, screenshots, JSON, and WARC—depending on enabled extractors; the presence of a URL in the collection does not by itself establish that every representation was captured successfully.
ArchiveBox warns that private URLs, cookies, and session tokens passed to the archive may be visible to people who can view it. Review collection access settings and avoid publishing snapshots that contain secrets.

Troubleshooting
- No URLs appear: Confirm that
your_urls.txtcontains one URL per line, has no CSV header or unrelated columns, and is the file being read by the command. Run the command from the intended collection’s data folder. - The import command cannot find the file: Check the working directory or use the file’s full path after the input redirection operator.
- URLs appear but Pocket metadata is missing: Current documentation does not guarantee metadata mapping. The URL-list import is not a documented promise to preserve Pocket tags, favorites, or other CSV fields.
- A page’s content is incomplete or absent: Adding a URL creates a snapshot folder, but the captured representations depend on enabled extractors and the page’s availability. Inspect the snapshot rather than assuming the original Pocket content was restored.

ScreenshotNeo is a separate website screenshot API and MCP server, not a Pocket-to-ArchiveBox importer. It can be useful when you want a clean screenshot of an accessible page rather than a local ArchiveBox collection.
