To import a local HTML file into Figma with html.to.design, open the plugin, choose the File tab, then drag in a .html or .htm file—or click the drop zone and select it. The plugin renders the page and imports it into your Figma file. Check the result afterward: external images, stylesheets, and scripts may not load if they are missing or unavailable publicly.
Import a local HTML file through the File tab
- Open the html.to.design plugin in Figma.
- Select the File tab.
- Drag your
.htmlor.htmfile into the drop zone. Alternatively, click the drop zone and choose the file from your computer. - Wait for the plugin to render and import the page.
- Inspect the imported design in Figma and check for missing images, styling, or other differences.
The plugin supports standard HTML and HTM files. It will try to import resources referenced by the HTML, but the vendor cautions that this may fail when resources are absent or not publicly available. A successful file upload therefore does not guarantee that every asset or detail will appear as it does in a browser.

Choose the right import method for your files

Import a ZIP of webpage files
If the page relies on multiple files, package the HTML, CSS, images, and JavaScript together in a ZIP rather than uploading an HTML file that points to resources the plugin cannot reach. Upload the ZIP through the plugin’s File tab. Keep the ZIP smaller than 32 MB, as specified by the vendor.

Use the browser extension for private or browser-rendered pages
When a page depends on a login, local files, or browser state, use the html.to.design extension to capture what the browser renders. The extension can send the capture directly to the plugin or save it as a local .h2d file that you can import.

The vendor says that the downloaded local .h2d capture remains on your computer and does not reach its servers. That privacy statement applies specifically to the local-file option; it should not be generalized to other extension workflows.
Check and troubleshoot the imported design
- Images are missing: Check that the image files exist and that the HTML points to paths the import can resolve. If the page uses resources that are not publicly available, capture the rendered page with the browser extension.
- Styles or scripts did not carry over: Confirm the referenced CSS or JavaScript files are present and accessible. For a multi-file page, try a ZIP containing the webpage files, under 32 MB.
- The page depends on a login or local access: Use the browser extension while viewing the page, then send the capture to the plugin or save a local
.h2dfile. - The result differs from the browser: Compare the imported design with the rendered page and look for unavailable external resources or browser-dependent content. The vendor does not guarantee every external resource will import successfully.
