The simplest way to host waccyy’s Fantasia with friends is to rent a Minecraft server that has a CurseForge modpack installer, select the exact Fantasia release, and allocate about 8 GB of memory to start. Every player must install the same Minecraft 1.20.1 version, Forge loader, and pack release. If you self-host, you must additionally install the matching Forge server, accept the EULA, configure memory, open the network port, and maintain backups and updates yourself.
Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
No official minimum RAM or player limit is published on the project page. Hosting companies quote different numbers, so treat their figures as starting points rather than a guaranteed requirement. Increase the allocation when world generation, view distance, entities, or the number of simultaneous players produces lag.

What waccyy’s Fantasia is and which version to install
CurseForge describes waccyy’s Fantasia as a modpack aiming to capture an immersive fantasy RPG experience similar to the Elder Scrolls games. It is authored by waccyy and categorized under Adventure and RPG, Exploration, Multiplayer, Combat/PvP, and Quests. The project identifies Minecraft 1.20.1 and the Forge loader as its supported pairing.
The surfaced project information shows a 1.20.1 release dated June 4, 2026 and an update dated August 8, 2026. The files listing names the main release Fantasia Beta 11.9h.zip, marked as the latest release for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge on June 4, 2026. Because project metadata and file releases can change independently, check the official CurseForge project and files pages immediately before installing and select one release for both server and clients.
#1 Best Overall
| Item | Known value | What it means for your server |
|---|---|---|
| Pack | waccyy’s Fantasia | Use the official project listing and do not mirror or redistribute its files. |
| Minecraft | 1.20.1 | The server and every client must use this version unless a newer official release explicitly states otherwise. |
| Loader | Forge | Install the Forge server and Forge client, not Fabric or another loader. |
| Named file | Fantasia Beta 11.9h.zip |
Use the same pack release on the server and clients. |
| Project snapshot | 305,022 total downloads | This is a CurseForge project-page snapshot, not a performance or capacity measurement. |
| Official minimum RAM | Not stated | Use host guidance only as a starting point and size the server from observed load. |
The project listing shows “All Rights Reserved.” Obtain the pack through the official project or an authorized installer, and avoid uploading the ZIP or extracted mods to a public mirror.
Choose between managed hosting and self-hosting
Managed hosting is usually the lowest-friction option for a small group. The provider supplies a control panel, persistent storage, network access, and often a CurseForge installer. Self-hosting can reduce rental payments if you already own a suitable computer and connection, but you become responsible for every operational task.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Decision factor | Managed server | Self-hosted server |
|---|---|---|
| Installation | Often a one-click or guided CurseForge deployment. | You obtain the official files, install Forge 1.20.1, and configure the server yourself. |
| Upfront cost | Usually a recurring rental charge; current prices were not established here. | No rental bill if you already have hardware, but electricity, internet, and hardware costs still apply. |
| Maintenance | The panel simplifies restarts, file access, and upgrades, although you still manage the world and pack. | You handle operating-system updates, Java configuration, firewalling, backups, monitoring, and recovery. |
| Network exposure | The provider normally supplies a public address and port. | You must expose and secure the Minecraft port through your router and firewall. |
| Scaling | RAM and CPU upgrades are generally a panel or plan change. | You must add hardware or migrate the world when the machine reaches its limits. |
| Control | Convenient, but subject to the provider’s allowed configuration. | Maximum control over files, scripts, backups, and launch settings. |
For a first server or a group that wants to play rather than administer infrastructure, choose managed hosting. Self-hosting makes sense when someone in the group is comfortable with networking, command-line administration, and restoring backups.
Install the pack with a managed host
Use the host’s CurseForge integration rather than manually copying random mod files. The exact labels vary, but the workflow documented by PLAYNHOST is representative.
- Order a Minecraft server plan with enough CPU, storage, and memory for the expected group. Start near 8 GB of RAM for a small group unless your provider’s documented guidance or your workload indicates otherwise.
- Open the server control panel and select the Modpacks tab.
- Choose CurseForge as the source.
- Search for waccyy’s Fantasia. Confirm that the result identifies Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge.
- Select the exact release you intend to use, such as
Fantasia Beta 11.9h.zipwhen that is still the listed release. - Start the installation and wait for the panel to finish downloading and unpacking the server files. Do not start the server while the installer is still writing files.
- Review the generated server settings, set an administrator or operator account through the panel’s normal controls, and start the server.
- Record the address and port shown by the host. Share them only with the intended players, and enable the host’s access controls or whitelist if available.
Some providers advertise the pack as preinstalled rather than requiring a search. WinterNode says it preinstalls the pack and all Forge mods for Minecraft 1.20.1 and recommends 8 GB. Game Host Bros advertises one-click Forge 1.20.1 deployment, an included server pack, and 8 GB or more of RAM. GhostCap advertises one-click installation but lists a more conservative 16 GB minimum recommendation. These are provider-specific statements, not an official specification from the pack author.
How much RAM should you allocate?
Published guidance differs substantially. PLAYNHOST presents 6 GB as a starting point, WinterNode and Game Host Bros recommend about 8 GB, and GhostCap lists 16 GB as a minimum recommendation. None of these figures is an independently verified benchmark, and the project page does not publish an official minimum.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Source | Published figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| PLAYNHOST | 6 GB starting point | A lower starting allocation for a small installation; monitor whether it is sufficient. |
| WinterNode | 8 GB recommendation | A provider recommendation for its preinstalled 1.20.1 setup. |
| Game Host Bros | 8 GB or more | A provider recommendation accompanying its one-click deployment. |
| GhostCap | 16 GB minimum recommendation | A more conservative provider floor, not an official modpack requirement. |
Begin around 8 GB when the server is for a small group, then adjust based on evidence. Increase memory when the server repeatedly pauses during exploration, runs out of heap in its log, or becomes unable to keep up as players generate terrain and entities. More RAM cannot compensate for a weak CPU, a distant server location, a misconfigured view distance, or a faulty mod. Conversely, assigning every available gigabyte can starve the host operating system and panel, so leave headroom for them.
Compare hosts without assuming one is faster
The available provider pages establish installation features and different RAM recommendations, but they do not provide independent performance tests, uptime studies, or authoritative player-capacity figures. Compare offers using the following questions:
Rank #3
- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
- What are the recurring and one-time charges, and can you cancel or change plans?
- How much dedicated or shared CPU capacity is included?
- Where is the server located relative to the players, and what latency can the group expect?
- Does the panel install the exact CurseForge release and retain the server pack?
- Can you change the Forge or pack version without losing the world?
- How frequently are automated backups made, and can you download and restore them yourself?
- Is DDoS protection included, and what network limits apply?
- Can you edit server properties, use a whitelist, access logs, and upload approved configuration files?
- Can you increase RAM or move to a larger CPU tier without rebuilding the world?
Choose on documented controls and support quality rather than treating a larger advertised RAM number as proof of better performance.
Install the matching client for every player
A server can be healthy while a player is rejected because the client uses a different loader, Minecraft version, or pack release. Give everyone a single version target before they launch.
GDLauncher installation steps
GDLauncher’s documented quick-install flow supports waccyy’s Fantasia on Forge and Minecraft 1.20.1:
- Open GDLauncher and choose Create a new instance.
- Select Forge as the mod loader and choose Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Open the instance’s Addons area and choose Add Addons.
- Paste
#waccyys-fantasiainto the search field. - Download the matching result and wait for the launcher to finish resolving its files.
- Launch the instance once locally. Let Forge complete its first-run setup before attempting to connect.
- In the multiplayer screen, enter the server address and port supplied by the host or the self-host administrator.
If the launcher presents several releases, choose the same release selected on the server. Do not let one player update independently while others remain on an older file.

- When you're down to one card, don't forget to yell "UNO"!
What must match
| Client setting | Required value | Typical symptom when it differs |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft version | 1.20.1 | The client refuses the connection or reports an incompatible protocol. |
| Mod loader | Forge | The instance cannot load the pack or shows missing/incompatible mods. |
| Pack release | The exact release installed on the server | Registry, mod-list, or handshake errors; a player may join and then be disconnected. |
The cited sources do not publish a complete list separating client-only mods from server-required mods. Do not assume that deleting files until a connection works is safe. If the launcher or server reports a specific missing or extra mod, compare the official release contents and the server log, then use the pack’s documented support channel.

Self-host the server when you need full control
Self-hosting follows the same compatibility rule but shifts administration to you. The official files listing and managed-host documentation establish the release and installation path; they do not expose a complete official server-pack manifest or a universal command-by-command guide. Keep your procedure tied to the exact release you selected.
Prepare the machine and network
- Use a computer with enough free CPU capacity, memory, disk space, and reliable network bandwidth for the expected players and world size.
- Install the Java runtime required by the chosen Forge 1.20.1 server package, following Forge’s release instructions rather than guessing from a different Minecraft version.
- Create a dedicated server directory so world files, configuration, logs, and backups are separated from personal files.
- Download the official pack or server files for the selected release. Do not rename or alter mod files unless the pack documentation instructs you to.
- Plan a backup destination on a different disk or machine. A second copy in the same folder does not protect against disk failure or accidental deletion.
Install and start Forge
- Run the Forge 1.20.1 server installer supplied for the selected release and choose the dedicated server directory.
- Place the official server-pack files in the locations expected by the installer. If the release supplies a separate server pack, use that package rather than assuming the client ZIP is sufficient.
- Start the server once so Forge creates its configuration and EULA files, then stop it cleanly.
- Open the generated EULA file, read Minecraft’s terms, and change the EULA setting to accept only if you agree to them.
- Set the server’s memory allocation in the launch configuration. Reserve enough memory for the operating system and monitoring tools, and change one variable at a time so you can identify what improves performance.
- Start the server again and wait for the console to report that it has finished loading before connecting.
Because the exact launcher filename and arguments vary by Forge build and operating system, use the files generated by your selected Forge installer and the release’s own instructions instead of copying a command intended for another version.
Expose the server safely
- Allow the Java server process through the computer’s local firewall only on the network profile you intend to use.
- Forward the Minecraft server port from the router to the host computer’s local address if players are connecting from outside your home network.
- Use a stable local address for the host so a router restart does not send the port forward to a different machine.
- Test from a separate network, such as a mobile connection, rather than assuming that a successful connection from the host proves internet access works.
- Give players the public address and port, not the private address used inside your home network.
Opening a port exposes a service to the internet. Keep the operating system and Java runtime updated, use a whitelist for a private group, avoid sharing administrative credentials, and close the forwarding rule when you no longer operate the server.

Back up before updates and world changes
Modpacks can change block IDs, entity behavior, configuration formats, or world-generation rules between releases. A backup taken before an update is your recovery point.

- Keep at least one recent local or downloaded copy in addition to the copy stored on the host machine.
- Label backups with the Minecraft version, Forge version, pack release, and date.
- Test restoring a backup on a separate temporary instance before trusting it as your only recovery plan.
- Update one release at a time. Record the previous release so you can roll back if the new server fails to start or the world behaves incorrectly.
- Require every player to update their client only after the server has completed its update and you have confirmed that the world loads.
Troubleshoot the failures players see most often
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Connection is refused immediately | The server is stopped, the address or port is wrong, or a firewall/router rule blocks it. | Confirm the server console is fully loaded, copy the address from the host panel, and test the firewall and port-forwarding path from another network. |
| Incompatible or missing-mod message | Minecraft, Forge, or the pack release differs between client and server. | Compare all three values and reinstall the exact release rather than mixing individual mods. |
| Server stops during startup | A damaged download, incorrect Forge package, incompatible configuration, or insufficient resources. | Read the first meaningful error in the console log, verify the official release files, restore the last known-good configuration, and increase resources only when the log indicates resource pressure. |
| Players experience pauses while exploring | World generation, entity load, view distance, CPU contention, or memory pressure. | Reduce view and simulation distance, limit unnecessary entities, check CPU and memory graphs, and add RAM only if the server is actually exhausting its allocation. |
| Only one player cannot join | That player has a different instance, stale files, or a launcher-side problem. | Have the player compare the instance’s Minecraft, Forge, and pack release, then repair or recreate the instance from the official listing. |
| World will not load after an update | The new release changed a mod, configuration, or world-generation dependency. | Stop immediately, preserve the failed copy, restore the pre-update backup, and investigate compatibility before trying the update again. |
| Players time out although the server is running | Network latency, saturated upload bandwidth, provider routing, or a stalled server tick. | Check the host location and network graphs, inspect the server log for tick stalls, and lower distance or entity load before changing unrelated settings. |
Save the complete log around an error, including the Forge and pack versions, when asking for support. A single final line such as “server crashed” is rarely enough to identify the failing component.
Keep performance predictable for a small group
Start with conservative view and simulation distances and raise them gradually. Exploration-heavy packs generate new chunks, which can create short-term CPU and disk spikes even when the average memory use looks comfortable. Pregenerating a large world may reduce exploration-time spikes, but it also consumes substantial disk space and should be done only after you have a tested backup.
Limit simultaneous heavy activities during the first session: have players spread out gradually rather than all generating distant terrain at once, and watch the host’s CPU, memory, disk, and network graphs. If the provider exposes separate CPU tiers, a move to a faster processor can help more than simply assigning additional RAM.
Keep operator privileges limited. A private whitelist, regular backups, and a documented rollback plan protect the world better than relying on a large memory allocation. Record every configuration change so you can undo it when a new mod or update introduces a problem.
A practical launch checklist
- Confirm the official project page still lists Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge for the release you selected.
- Write down the exact pack release, including the file name and date.
- Choose managed hosting or confirm that your self-host machine, Java runtime, storage, and network can remain online.
- Allocate about 8 GB for a small managed server as an initial value, while recognizing that published guidance ranges from 6 GB to 16 GB.
- Install the server and wait for a clean startup before inviting players.
- Install the same release in GDLauncher or another compatible launcher for every player.
- Test one client connection before distributing the address to the whole group.
- Enable a whitelist and protect panel, operator, and remote-access credentials.
- Create and verify a backup before changing the pack, Forge configuration, or world settings.
- Record the server address, release, memory allocation, backup location, and rollback procedure in a shared but private note.
For most small groups, a managed CurseForge installation is the fastest path: select the 1.20.1 Forge release, start near 8 GB, and make every client match it exactly. Self-hosting is viable when you want control and can take responsibility for networking, security, backups, and recovery; it is not a shortcut around those tasks.
