To host a Tempest Protocol server, download the matching CurseForge server-pack ZIP for Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge, extract it on a machine with at least 8 GB of RAM reserved for the online server, then follow the pack’s included README or launcher script. Every player must install the same Tempest Protocol release and NeoForge version. Managed hosts can remove most file and networking work, but self-hosting gives you more control.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
What Tempest Protocol needs
Tempest Protocol is a GamerPotion RPG modpack for Minecraft 1.21.1 running on NeoForge. It is not a vanilla server with an optional mod folder: the server and every client must use a compatible pack release, Minecraft version and modloader. A mismatch can prevent a connection, produce missing-mod errors or create gameplay differences.

Treat 8 GB as the starting allocation for the server process, not as the total memory of a busy host machine. Leave additional memory for the operating system, Java overhead, backups and other services.
- Game version: Minecraft 1.21.1.
- Modloader: NeoForge.
- Server memory guidance: at least 8 GB for an online server, according to the project page.
- Client memory guidance: about 4 GB optimized; 6–8 GB recommended by the publisher.
- Pack scale: CreeperHost’s current Tempest Protocol page lists 289 mods; the exact mod count can change with pack updates.
CPU speed, fast storage and upload bandwidth matter as well. RPG, magic, dragon, quest and MineColonies content can create heavier tick, entity, world-generation and storage loads as players explore. Eight gigabytes is therefore a minimum starting point, not a guarantee for a large community or several players generating new terrain at once.

Choose a single server-pack release
CurseForge lists matching Tempest Protocol server packs. The 1.0.4 server-pack ZIP is listed at 13.2 MB, while the 1.1.0 ZIP is listed at 13.5 MB. Both target Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge. Select one release before installing anything and keep that choice consistent across the server and all player computers.
| Release | Archive type | Listed size | Minecraft | Loader |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.0.4 | CurseForge server-pack ZIP | 13.2 MB | 1.21.1 | NeoForge |
| 1.1.0 | CurseForge server-pack ZIP | 13.5 MB | 1.21.1 | NeoForge |
Those sizes describe the downloadable server-pack archives, not the final world, libraries, logs or generated region files. Storage requirements grow after the first launch and as the map expands.
Before downloading
- Write down the exact pack version you intend to run.
- Download the client pack and the matching server-pack release from the Tempest Protocol CurseForge project.
- Keep a copy of the original ZIP so you can rebuild a clean installation.
- Do not combine files from 1.0.4 and 1.1.0 unless the pack’s own documentation explicitly says that a migration is supported.
Self-hosting or a managed host?
Self-hosting works when you control a suitable computer, can configure a firewall or router and are comfortable maintaining Java, backups and updates. A managed Minecraft host trades recurring cost for a control panel, data-center connectivity and support.
| Consideration | Self-hosted machine | Managed Tempest Protocol host |
|---|---|---|
| Control | Full control of files, operating system, ports and schedules. | Control is provided through the host panel; lower-level access varies. |
| Setup effort | You extract the pack, run the launcher, configure Java, secure the machine and expose the port. | The provider may install the pack, configure launch settings and provide a panel. |
| Network exposure | You must secure the host and router and maintain firewall rules. | The provider operates the public network endpoint, but account security remains your responsibility. |
| Recurring cost | No hosting bill, but you supply hardware, electricity, bandwidth and maintenance. | Monthly cost; current prices, locations and resource limits vary by plan. |
| Backups and support | You design and test your own backup and recovery process. | Backup schedules and support quality depend on the provider and selected plan. |
Managed options that list Tempest Protocol
The publisher’s server-pack listings promote BisectHosting for one-click modpack installation, custom uploads, Forge/Fabric support and a control panel. CreeperHost maintains a dedicated Tempest Protocol page and says its setup identifies the files a dedicated server needs, detects known client-only mods, and prepares the Minecraft, modloader and launch configuration automatically. WinterNode also maintains a dedicated Tempest Protocol page and advertises one-click installation.

Before paying, verify that the provider offers the exact Tempest Protocol release you selected, supports custom server-pack uploads, states the allocated memory clearly, and provides backups and a data center close enough to your players.
Install the server pack on your own machine
The public project listings identify the ZIP files but do not reproduce a guaranteed Java runtime version or a universal launch command. Use the README, launcher script and configuration files included in the downloaded server pack for those details rather than copying a command from an unrelated Minecraft version.
Recommended Free Tools
1. Prepare a clean directory
- Create a new, dedicated directory such as
tempest-protocol-server. Do not extract over an unrelated modpack or an existing world until you have a tested backup. - Give the account that will run Minecraft permission to read and write the directory.
- Install the Java runtime specified by the pack’s README or launcher files. If the documentation names a particular Java major version, use that version; the public listing does not state it.
2. Extract the matching ZIP
- Extract the selected 1.0.4 or 1.1.0 server-pack ZIP directly into the clean directory.
- Open the included README before starting the server. Note the supplied launcher script, required Java options, configuration locations and any installer step.
- Keep the directory structure intact. Moving individual mods or deleting a script can break the intended launch process.
3. Run the supplied launcher
Use the pack’s launcher script or the exact command documented in its files. On a first run, Minecraft may create additional libraries, configuration files and a world directory. Watch the console for a clear startup completion message and stop the process cleanly before changing settings.
4. Accept the EULA
If the first launch creates eula.txt and stops, open that file, read the linked Minecraft EULA and change the setting to eula=true only if you agree. Start the supplied launcher again. Never assume that accepting the EULA through a third-party script changes the legal terms; it only records your choice for the server process.

- [Easy Disassemble] Making incidental repairs quick and easy! Very nice, flexible cable
- [Dont Hesite to Order] 24 hours customer services and professional technology team are standing by
5. Set an administrator and basic properties
Once the console is available, grant operator status to your account using the standard Minecraft op <player-name> command. Stop the server and edit server.properties for the settings you need, such as the message of the day, difficulty, whitelist and view distance. Change one setting at a time and retain a backup of the working file.
- Whitelist: enable it if the server is private, then add each player deliberately.
- Server name: set a clear message of the day so players know which pack release is running.
- View and simulation distance: lower them if tick time or memory use remains high; test the effect with your normal player count.
- Port: keep the documented default unless you have a reason to change it, and record any custom value for players.
6. Open the network path
Allow the chosen server port through the operating-system firewall. If the machine sits behind a home router, forward that port to the server’s local address and reserve the address so it does not change. A remote player should connect using your public address and port; players on the same local network may use the private address. Do not expose unrelated administrative ports, and secure the operating-system account with a strong password and updates.
Allocate memory and monitor performance
Begin with at least the publisher’s 8 GB online-server guidance. Do not allocate every gigabyte on the machine to Java: the operating system, file cache, launcher, monitoring tools and backups still need memory. If the server host has less than 8 GB total RAM, it cannot reliably satisfy that starting point while also running the operating system.
What to watch
- Tick time or MSPT: rising values indicate that the server is taking too long to process game logic.
- Memory pattern: repeatedly reaching the heap limit or pausing during garbage collection suggests that allocation, entity counts or loaded chunks need attention.
- CPU saturation: world generation, pathfinding and large automation areas can make a fast single-threaded CPU more important than simply adding RAM.
- Disk activity: exploration and structure generation create region files; use fast, reliable storage and keep free space available.
- Network upload: several players exploring different areas can require more upstream bandwidth than a small local test.
Practical ways to reduce load
- Pre-generate a reasonable play area before inviting many players, if the pack’s documentation supports that workflow.
- Limit simultaneous exploration of untouched terrain during peak hours.
- Use a whitelist and sensible view or simulation distances rather than allowing unrestricted public access.
- Remove abandoned entities and farms only after confirming that a mod does not depend on them.
- Profile before changing JVM options; use the launcher’s documented memory settings and avoid random flags copied from older modpacks.
Connect players without version conflicts
- Install the same Tempest Protocol client release on every player computer.
- Confirm that each client uses Minecraft 1.21.1 and the NeoForge version required by that pack release.
- Start the server completely before testing a connection.
- Give players the server address and non-default port, if applicable.
- Keep the client and server archives together in your records so a later update can be reproduced.
Do not mix a 1.0.4 client with a 1.1.0 server, or add individual mods to one side without checking compatibility. If one player cannot join while others can, compare the exact pack version, NeoForge version, Java runtime and client-side configuration first.

Use a managed host step by step
- Choose a provider that explicitly lists Tempest Protocol or accepts custom server-pack uploads.
- Select a plan with at least 8 GB allocated to the server and enough storage for the expanded pack and world.
- In the control panel, select the exact Tempest Protocol release, or upload its matching server-pack ZIP if the panel supports custom files.
- Confirm that the panel selected Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge rather than a vanilla, Forge or Fabric profile that does not match the pack.
- Start the instance and read the console for EULA, installer or configuration prompts.
- Set the operator account, whitelist and server properties, then test with one client before inviting the whole group.
- Configure automated backups and identify how to restore a world before making major pack changes.
One-click installation reduces manual extraction and launch configuration; it does not remove the need to match client versions, monitor resources or maintain backups. Ask support where the world files, logs and uploaded configuration are stored before relying on the service.
Common failures and fixes
“Incompatible mod set” or missing-mod errors
Verify that both sides use the same Tempest Protocol release, Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge. Reinstall the client from the matching pack rather than copying only the error-listed mod.
The server stops immediately after launch
Read the first error in the console, not only the final shutdown line. Check the Java version named by the pack’s README, confirm that the launcher is being run from the extracted directory, and ensure the EULA setting is accepted. Restore the original ZIP into a clean directory if files were removed or overwritten.
Players cannot reach the server
Confirm that the process is running, the firewall permits the selected port, and router forwarding points to the server’s current local address. Test locally first, then from an external connection. A changing home IP may require a dynamic-DNS arrangement, but do not expose administration services along with the game port.
Best Value
Lag increases as the world expands
Check tick time, CPU, memory and disk activity while players reproduce the problem. Reduce view or simulation distance, limit simultaneous terrain generation and consider a stronger CPU or managed plan. Adding RAM alone will not fix a CPU-bound tick loop.
A pack update breaks the world
Stop the server, make a complete world and configuration backup, and read the release notes before updating. Test the new release in a separate directory when possible. Never overwrite the only copy of a working world with an untested pack update.
Backups, updates and routine administration
- Stop the server cleanly before copying world files.
- Keep at least one backup away from the live machine and periodically perform a test restore.
- Record the pack release, NeoForge version, Java version, server properties and launch settings for each change.
- Review logs after updates and after adding a new player or large modded structure.
- Use a whitelist, operator discipline and least-privilege access for anyone helping administer the server.
- Schedule restarts only after warning players and confirming that automated backups have completed.
CurseForge download counts, pack releases, host availability and resource recommendations can change. The Tempest Protocol project page showed 71,943 total project downloads in a 2026 snapshot, but that number is not a capacity measurement and should not be used to size your server.
Recommended decision
Choose self-hosting if you already have a secure, always-on machine with at least 8 GB available to the server and you want complete control over files and networking. Choose a managed provider if you prefer one-click installation, a control panel and provider-operated connectivity. In either case, the critical requirements are identical: use the matching Tempest Protocol server pack, keep every client on the same 1.21.1 NeoForge release, follow the included launcher documentation, and monitor the server as the world grows.
