For the current Tekkit Classic Reloaded release, download the newest CurseForge server pack, install Java 17 or newer, extract the files into a dedicated directory, assign about 6 GB of server memory, and run the included launch script. Version 1.3.1 targets Minecraft 1.19.2 and Forge 43.5.0. This is a different software stack from the original Tekkit Classic, so Java 8 instructions for the old 1.2.5 pack do not apply.

What you need for a Tekkit Classic Reloaded server
A reliable setup starts with matching all three parts: the Tekkit Classic Reloaded server pack, its Minecraft version, and the required Forge and Java versions. Do not mix files from different releases.
| Item | Current 1.3.1 target | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Modpack server pack | Tekkit Classic Reloaded v1.3.1 | Download the newest file shown on the CurseForge Files tab; newer releases may appear after this guide. |
| Minecraft | 1.19.2 | The client used by every player must also be on the same modpack release and Minecraft version. |
| Mod loader | Forge 1.19.2-43.5.0 | Use the Forge files bundled with the server pack rather than installing an unrelated Forge build. |
| Java | Java 17 or newer | The fan installation guide specifically requires Java 17 or higher for the 1.19.2 pack. |
| Memory | Plan for roughly 6 GB allocated to the server | Increase the allocation for a larger player group, while leaving enough RAM for the operating system. |
| Disk space | At least 5 GB is listed as a minimum by the fan wiki; 15 GB is listed by one hosting provider | Reserve additional space for world growth, backups, logs and future pack updates. |
The v1.3.1 server-pack file listed on CurseForge was 254.9 MB and marked as uploaded April 22, 2025. Check the Files tab immediately before downloading because the latest file can change.

Choose the correct Tekkit Classic Reloaded server pack
Current 1.19.2 pack
For a new server, use v1.3.1, the 1.19.2 Forge pack. Its files are intended to be installed together, which is considerably simpler than assembling a vanilla server, Forge, and every mod manually.
Older 1.12.2 pack
An older server pack labeled R1.2 targets Minecraft 1.12.2 and was listed as uploaded November 6, 2019. Choose it only when your existing client and world specifically depend on that release. The Java requirement for this older pack is not established here, so do not assume that the 1.19.2 Java instructions are interchangeable without checking the pack’s own documentation.
Do not use original Tekkit Classic instructions
Original Tekkit Classic is a separate 1.2.5 pack. A Technic forum post for that older software advised Java 8, but that advice predates Tekkit Classic Reloaded and conflicts with the Java 17 requirement for TCR 1.19.2.
Install the Tekkit Classic Reloaded Java version
The 1.19.2 server requires Java 17 or newer. A current 64-bit Java installation is important because the server needs several gigabytes of heap memory.
Windows
- Install a 64-bit Java 17 LTS distribution such as Eclipse Temurin 17.
- Open a new Command Prompt and run
java -version. - Confirm that the reported major version is 17 or higher. If Windows reports an older installation, correct the PATH or remove the obsolete default before launching the server.
Linux
- Install OpenJDK 17 or a newer LTS release through your distribution’s package manager.
- Run
java -versionin the shell used to start the server. - If several Java versions are installed, select Java 17 or newer as the active runtime, or call the desired Java binary by its full path in your launch script.
CurseForge application users
If you launch through the CurseForge application and the game fails before a server window appears, open Settings → Minecraft → Java Settings and select the Java 17 (or newer) executable. The application can otherwise continue using an older Java path even after a new runtime has been installed.
How much Tekkit Classic Reloaded server RAM do you need?
Published recommendations differ because they describe different assumptions and audiences rather than a single measured requirement. Treat 6 GB as a practical starting allocation for the current pack, then adjust after observing your player count, world size and lag.

|---|---|---|---|
| Tekkit Classic Reloaded fan wiki minimum | 2 or more cores | 6 GB system RAM, including 4 GB for the server | 5 GB |

| BisectHosting guidance | Not stated | 6 GB recommended for smooth operation | Not stated |
These are host and wiki recommendations, not results from a published benchmark. A server allocated 6 GB still needs additional memory for Windows or Linux and any other programs. On a machine with 8 GB total RAM, assigning 6 GB can leave too little headroom; a 12 GB or larger machine is more comfortable for that allocation.
Tekkit Classic Reloaded server setup: step by step
1. Download the newest server pack
- Open the Tekkit Classic Reloaded project on CurseForge and select the Files tab.
- Download the newest entry identified as a server pack, not merely the client modpack archive.
- Read the file details and record its Minecraft and Forge versions. For v1.3.1, they should read Minecraft 1.19.2 and Forge 1.19.2-43.5.0.
2. Create a dedicated server directory
Create a folder used only by this server, such as C:GamesTCR-Server on Windows or ~/servers/tcr on Linux. Keeping the pack separate prevents a second modpack, an old world or a different Java launch script from being picked up accidentally.
3. Extract the archive
Extract every file from the downloaded server pack into the dedicated folder. Preserve the directory structure. Do not run the archive from inside a compressed file and do not move only the apparent Forge JAR while leaving libraries or configuration files behind.
4. Inspect the supplied launch files
The server pack normally includes a Windows batch file, a Unix shell script, or both. Open the script in a text editor and check which Forge server JAR it calls. The exact JAR filename depends on the pack, so copy that name rather than guessing it.
5. Accept the required server terms when prompted
On the first launch, the server may stop after creating its initial files and ask you to review its terms file. Follow the instruction shown in the console, then restart the script. Do not delete the generated configuration files between attempts; they contain the state needed for the next start.
6. Launch with an explicit memory allocation
If the supplied script already sets memory, edit its values rather than creating a second competing command. A representative Java command is:

java -Xmx6G -Xms6G -XX:+UseG1GC -jar <forge-server-jar> nogui
-Xmx6G caps the Java heap at 6 GB, while -Xms6G reserves an initial 6 GB. -XX:+UseG1GC selects the G1 garbage collector, and nogui runs without the graphical server window. Replace <forge-server-jar> with the exact Forge JAR filename in your extracted pack.
7. Keep the console open on the first successful start
Watch for Forge to finish loading, then look for the server-ready message in the console. The first run can take longer while libraries, configuration files and the world are generated. Stop the server from its console command instead of closing the terminal window abruptly, so pending world data can be written safely.
8. Start it the same way thereafter
Use the included script, or save the working command in your own script in the server directory. Starting from another working directory can cause relative paths to fail or make the server create a second world elsewhere.
Adjusting the launch command safely
Choosing Xms and Xmx
For the current pack, the fan wiki’s example uses 6 GB for both values. Matching them gives Java a fixed heap target, but it is not a universal requirement. If your machine has limited memory, lower both values together; if you have a larger group and sufficient system RAM, raise them together in measured increments. Never allocate nearly all physical RAM to Java.
Windows batch example
@echo off
java -Xms6G -Xmx6G -XX:+UseG1GC -jar <forge-server-jar> nogui
pause
Keep the pause line while troubleshooting so an error remains visible after the process exits. Remove it only if you deliberately want a background-style launch.
Linux shell example
#!/usr/bin/env bash
cd "$(dirname "$0")"
exec java -Xms6G -Xmx6G -XX:+UseG1GC -jar <forge-server-jar> nogui
Save the file, make it executable with chmod +x start.sh, and run it from the server directory. The cd line ensures that relative paths resolve beside the script.

Fixes for common startup failures
The process says Java is too old
Run java -version in the same terminal or script that starts the server. If it reports Java 8 or another older release, install Java 17 or newer and correct the system PATH, the script’s full Java path, or CurseForge’s Settings → Minecraft → Java Settings selection.
The JAR file cannot be found
Confirm that the command is running in the extracted server directory and that the JAR name exactly matches the file on disk. Forge filenames include version numbers; a small spelling or punctuation difference is enough to produce a “unable to access jarfile” error.
The server exits during mod loading
- Verify that the client and server use the same TCR release, Minecraft version and Forge build.
- Re-extract a clean copy of the server pack rather than adding individual mods from a different release.
- Read the newest lines in the server log for the first mod or dependency named in the error. The final stack-trace line is often only a consequence, not the cause.
There is not enough memory
Check both the Java allocation and total physical RAM. Lowering -Xmx can prevent the operating system from swapping, but going below the pack’s practical needs can increase pauses or crashes. Close other memory-heavy applications, move the server to a machine with more RAM, or reduce the number of simultaneous players before increasing the heap beyond 6 GB.
The server starts but players experience pauses
Record the player count, recent world activity and Java heap usage when the pauses occur. A larger heap is not automatically a cure: insufficient CPU capacity, disk pressure, a growing world or mismatched client files can also contribute. Start with the recommended four-or-more-core hardware and 12 GB system-memory guidance when planning a busier server.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsMaking the server reachable by other players
A self-hosted instance must be reachable from the players’ networks, not merely running on your own computer. The exact port-forwarding, firewall and public-IP procedure depends on your router, operating system and internet provider, and those details are not uniform enough to prescribe a single safe set of values here.
- Keep the server computer on a stable local address so router rules do not point to a changing device.
- Allow Java or the server process through the host operating system’s firewall only for the network scope you intend to expose.
- Give friends the address and port configured for your server, never administrative credentials.
- If your internet connection uses carrier-grade NAT or blocks inbound connections, a normal router rule may not work; use a suitable VPS or managed host instead.
Test connectivity with one trusted player before announcing the address widely. Avoid publishing a home IP publicly, and stop the server while changing network rules.

Updating, backing up and changing versions
Back up before every change
Stop the server cleanly, copy the entire world directory and retain the configuration and scripts alongside it. A world backup without its mod configuration may not restore correctly after a pack change.
Update within the same release line first
When a newer TCR server pack appears, compare its Minecraft and Forge versions with your current installation. Test the new pack against a copy of the world before replacing the live directory. Keep the old pack intact until the copied world loads and players can connect.
Do not downgrade in place
Moving from 1.19.2 v1.3.1 to the 1.12.2 R1.2 pack changes both Minecraft and Forge generations. Treat that as a separate server migration: create a new directory, retain the original backup and verify whether the world and mods support the older environment.
Self-hosting versus managed Minecraft hosting
| Consideration | Self-hosted server | Managed server |
|---|---|---|
| Control | You control Java, Forge files, launch flags, worlds, updates and operating-system settings. | The provider controls the underlying machine and exposes a panel for common tasks. |
| Initial setup | Download, extract, install Java, set RAM and handle networking yourself. | Search for the modpack in the provider’s Minecraft selector and install it through the panel; the provider descriptions say this automates much of the setup. |
| Ongoing work | You perform updates, backups, monitoring, firewall changes and recovery. | The provider handles the host environment, while you still need to manage worlds, player permissions and pack-specific settings. |
| Cost model | Uses your own computer or VPS resources; any hardware, electricity or VPS charges are yours. | Requires a recurring hosting fee. The specific prices were not established here. |
| Best fit | Owners who want full control and are comfortable with Java, files and networking. | Groups that prefer a control panel and want to minimize command-line and infrastructure work. |
Managed Minecraft server hosting can remove the Java installation and launch-script steps, but it does not eliminate version discipline. Confirm that the provider offers the exact TCR release, Minecraft version and Forge build you intend to run, and export your own world backups so you can leave the service without losing progress.
Checklist before inviting players
- The server pack is the newest compatible CurseForge file, currently v1.3.1 in the 1.19.2 line.
- Every player has the same TCR release, Minecraft version and Forge version.
- Java reports 17 or newer on the actual launch path.
- The launch script uses an intentional
-Xmsand-Xmxvalue, with unused RAM reserved for the operating system. - The server directory contains the complete extracted pack and the expected Forge JAR.
- A clean startup reaches the ready message without recurring mod or dependency errors.
- A tested world backup exists outside the live server directory.
- Firewall and router rules expose only the game service you intend to share.
- You have recorded the pack version and launch command so another administrator can reproduce the setup.
Final recommendation
For most groups, the dependable route is TCR v1.3.1 from the CurseForge Files tab, Java 17 or newer, a dedicated extracted directory, and the supplied launch script configured around 6 GB of RAM. Start there, verify the logs and connectivity, then scale hardware or memory only when your actual player load requires it. Keep the older 1.12.2 pack and original Tekkit Classic Java 8 advice isolated from this installation.
