To host Techopolis 3, use the current Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge release and its matching Techopolis_3-13.4_server_pack.zip. Run it with 64-bit Java 21, complete NeoForge’s first-run and EULA steps, then allow and forward port 25565 for players connecting over the internet. Self-hosting gives you complete control over files and networking; a managed Minecraft host handles much of the installation and maintenance. The instructions below cover both approaches, client compatibility, networking, memory settings, updates and the failures that most often prevent players from joining.

What Techopolis 3 requires
Techopolis 3 is a technology and automation modpack by benbenlaw for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 running on NeoForge. Its progression includes custom resource generation and research gates, and a new world can use Normal, Hexlands, Skyblock or Superflat generation. Those features are part of the modpack, so the server and every connecting client must use the same pack release rather than mixing individual mods from different versions.

| Mod loader | NeoForge | NeoForge supplies the server runtime and launch scripts. |
| Java runtime | 64-bit Java 21 | NeoForged’s version guidance places Minecraft 1.20.5 and newer, including 1.21.1, on Java 21. |

The server pack contains the intended server-side mods and configuration files. |
| Network port | 25565 by default | Players outside your local network need firewall permission and router or hosting-network forwarding. |
The Techopolis 3 project page showed 489,144 total downloads in 2026. That number is a project download total, not a player limit, a performance guarantee or a measure of how many people can join one server.
Self-hosting or a managed host?
Both models run the same NeoForge server pack. The practical difference is who owns the operating-system, storage and network work.
#1 Best Overall
| Decision point | Self-host on your PC or VPS | Managed Minecraft host |
|---|---|---|
| Installation | You download, extract and install NeoForge, then maintain the files. | The provider may deploy a supported modpack or let you upload the matching server pack. |
| Control | Full access to files, JVM arguments, logs, backups and network settings. | Control depends on the panel, file manager and console features included with the plan. |
| Networking | You handle the host firewall, router forwarding and the address shared with friends. | The provider supplies a public endpoint and manages its hosting network; you still choose the server region and port settings. |
| Availability | The computer and internet connection must remain online whenever players want to join. | The server runs in the provider’s facility, subject to that service’s terms and maintenance. |
| Maintenance | You apply pack updates, Java updates, backups and recovery yourself. | Panels can simplify restarts, scheduled tasks and file management, but you remain responsible for version compatibility. |
| Cost information | Hardware, electricity and internet costs vary. | Current prices, capacity and uptime are provider-specific and must be checked on the date you order. |
A dedicated server is fine: it can be a spare desktop, a rented virtual machine or another always-on computer. It still needs 64-bit Java 21, the matching server pack and enough CPU, memory, storage and network capacity for your world and player group. No official Techopolis document establishes a universal RAM minimum or player capacity, so treat those as sizing decisions rather than fixed requirements.
Download the exact server pack
- Open the Techopolis 3 project on CurseForge and select its Files page.
- Choose the current 13.4 release for Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge.
- Download
Techopolis_3-13.4_server_pack.zip, not only the client archiveTechopolis_3-13.4.zip. - Give every player the same client release. A client on another Techopolis version, Minecraft version or loader can fail during the handshake even when the server itself starts normally.
- Keep the downloaded archive unchanged as a recovery copy. Extract a separate working copy so you can restore a clean installation if a later edit causes a crash.
The matching server archive was listed as uploaded on October 12, 2026. File listings change, so check the filename, Minecraft version and NeoForge designation each time you update instead of assuming that the newest-looking archive is compatible.
Install a self-hosted NeoForge server
1. Install Java 21 and verify the architecture
Install a 64-bit Java 21 runtime on the machine that will run the server. Open a terminal or command prompt and run:
java -version
The output should identify Java 21. Also use the operating system’s package or system information tools to confirm that the Java installation is 64-bit; a 32-bit runtime can prevent a large modpack from starting even when the version number looks correct. If the command is not found, install Java 21 or add its executable directory to the system PATH, then open a new terminal and check again.
2. Create a clean server directory
Make a dedicated directory such as Techopolis3-server on a drive with sufficient free space. Do not place the files in a general Minecraft client directory and do not merge them with an older Techopolis, Forge or NeoForge world. Extract every file from Techopolis_3-13.4_server_pack.zip into this directory, preserving the archive’s folders.
3. Run the NeoForge installer when the pack provides one
Some server packs include a NeoForge installer. From the extracted directory, run the installer with Java:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →java -jar <neoforge-installer>.jar --installServer
Replace the filename in the command with the actual installer filename in the pack. The --installServer operation creates the server files and launch scripts in that directory. NeoForged documents generated run.sh for Linux and other Unix-like systems and run.bat for Windows. If the Techopolis archive already includes a working startup script and does not include an installer, use that supplied script instead of adding a different NeoForge version.
4. Start once and accept the EULA
Launch the supplied script from the server directory. On a normal first run, the process may stop after creating eula.txt. Open that file, read the Minecraft EULA and change eula=false to eula=true only if you accept its terms. Save the file and launch the same script again. The server should then continue through world creation and expose a console for commands and log messages.
5. Keep the generated files together
Do not move only the executable JAR or copy selected mods into another directory. NeoForge’s scripts, libraries, configuration files, world data and the server-side mod list work as one installation. If you need to relocate the server, stop it cleanly, copy the complete directory and start from the new location.
Set memory and JVM arguments safely
NeoForge-generated installations commonly read additional Java options from user_jvm_args.txt. Use that file or the pack’s documented configuration point rather than editing a generated script that may be replaced during an update.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
- Allocate memory according to the world’s size, view distance, automation activity and number of simultaneous players.
- Leave memory for the operating system, Java overhead and any other services on the machine; assigning all physical RAM to Minecraft can make the host unstable.
- Increase allocation gradually while watching startup logs and operating-system memory use. A larger heap does not automatically fix a CPU bottleneck, a slow disk or a network problem.
- Do not advertise a fixed Techopolis 3 RAM requirement: the official pack and cited NeoForge guidance do not publish one.
After changing JVM arguments, restart the server and check the first several minutes of logs. A successful launch should reach the normal server console without an out-of-memory error, repeated crash loop or Java option rejection.
Configure LAN and internet access
Playing on the same home network
For a LAN group, keep the server process running and give players the host computer’s local IP address, such as the address shown by the operating system’s network settings. They connect to that address and port 25565. A local address is not normally reachable from the public internet, so do not send it to remote friends as though it were a public server address.
Allow the process through the host firewall
Create an inbound firewall rule for the Java server or for TCP port 25565, following the firewall’s interface for your operating system. NeoForged notes that opening the Minecraft port in the system and/or network firewall may be necessary. Apply the narrowest rule that works for your intended network rather than disabling the firewall entirely.
Forward the router port for remote players
For an internet server hosted at home, sign in to the router, create a port-forwarding entry for external port 25565 to the server computer’s internal IP address and keep that internal address stable. If you change the host’s local address, the forwarding rule can point to the wrong machine. Share your public address and port with trusted players, and never publish administrative credentials.
Check the endpoint before inviting everyone
Confirm that the server process is running, the firewall rule is active and the router rule targets the correct host. Test from a connection outside the home network when possible; a test performed from inside the same LAN can succeed even when internet forwarding is wrong. If your hosting network assigns a nonstandard port, use the port shown by that provider rather than assuming 25565.

Prepare every player’s client
- Install Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 and a current Java-compatible launcher.
- Install the Techopolis 3 client release that matches the server’s 13.4 files and NeoForge target.
- Launch the modpack once locally so the launcher creates its profile and downloads required client files.
- Choose Multiplayer, add the server address supplied by the operator and retain the port when it is not the default.
- If the connection reports missing mods, registry differences or an incompatible version, compare the client profile with the server’s exact release before changing individual files.
Players need a legitimate Minecraft Java Edition license. Bedrock-only installations cannot join this Java/NeoForge server. Keep optional client customizations separate from the server’s files; a visual or performance mod that is client-only should not be copied into the server directory unless its documentation explicitly supports server use.
Use a managed hosting service
CurseForge’s hosted-server workflow supports modpacks that have a corresponding server pack. The documented sequence is:
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstall- Choose the Techopolis 3 modpack and confirm that the host supports its Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge release.
- Select a plan after checking its CPU, memory, storage, backup and player-management limits.
- Select a geographic region close to most players to reduce network latency.
- Enter the server name and other requested details.
- Pay under the provider’s current terms, then wait for deployment and use the panel’s connection details.
- Share that address and port with players only after the console shows a completed startup.
A host may install the matching server pack automatically or provide an upload area. If you upload files yourself, upload Techopolis_3-13.4_server_pack.zip or the extracted contents exactly as the panel instructs; do not combine them with a different NeoForge build.
Questions to ask before ordering
| Check | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Version support | The panel explicitly supports Techopolis 3 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge 13.4, not only Forge or an older Techopolis project. |
| Java runtime | Java 21 is available and selectable for the server instance. |
| File access | You can upload the server pack, edit configuration files and download logs or a complete backup. |
| JVM control | The plan exposes memory and relevant JVM arguments rather than hiding all runtime settings. |
| Operations | There is a console, scheduled restart option, backup/restore control and a documented update process. |
| Network | The region, public port, latency expectations and DDoS or firewall protections fit your group. |
| Commercial terms | Current price, renewal rate, cancellation policy and backup retention are clear before payment. |

Back up while the server is stopped
Stop the server from its console before copying the world and configuration directories. A backup made while files are actively changing can be incomplete. Store at least one copy outside the server machine or hosting panel so a disk failure or mistaken deletion does not remove both the live world and its backup.
Best Value
Update the pack as a unit
When a newer Techopolis release becomes available, read its file listing and confirm the Minecraft and NeoForge targets. Make a new backup, stop the server, install the new matching server pack in a test or copied directory and check the release notes for world or configuration changes. Keep clients on the same release before inviting players back.
Change one thing at a time
Restore the clean 13.4 server pack if the server begins crashing after a file edit. Then add custom changes individually, starting the server after each change. This isolates the incompatible mod, configuration entry or client-only file instead of leaving several unknown causes in one broken installation.
Troubleshooting common failures
java -version shows the wrong release
Install or select a 64-bit Java 21 runtime, update the system PATH or the host panel’s Java selector and run the command again. Do not solve a Java-version error by downloading a random older runtime; the 1.21.1 target belongs on Java 21 under NeoForged’s guidance.
The server stops immediately after launch
Read the console output and inspect eula.txt. A first-run installation normally requires changing eula=false to eula=true after reviewing the EULA, then starting the supplied script again. If the file is already accepted, inspect the preceding error for a missing Java runtime, an incomplete extraction or a failed installer run.
Players receive a mod or registry mismatch
Compare the server filename, Minecraft version, NeoForge version and client profile. Reinstall the client’s complete Techopolis 3 release rather than copying a few JAR files. Remove client-only additions from the server and avoid mixing the older Techopolis project, which used a different Minecraft and Forge target.
Friends cannot connect from outside the LAN
- Confirm that the server console is still running and listening on the intended port.
- Check the host firewall rule for Java or port 25565.
- Verify that router forwarding sends the external port to the server computer’s current internal IP address.
- Give remote players the public address and correct port, not the host’s private LAN address.
- If a managed provider assigns a custom port, use its connection details instead of 25565.
The server crashes after adding a mod or configuration file
Stop the server, restore the clean server-pack copy and confirm that it starts before making another change. Add files one at a time and read the first error in the crash report or console log. A file intended only for the client can crash or prevent a dedicated server from loading.
Performance becomes poor as the world grows
Check memory use, CPU load, disk activity and the number of active players rather than increasing RAM blindly. Reduce the workload through the server’s supported settings, close unrelated applications and consider moving the world to stronger hardware or a managed region closer to players. Keep a backup before changing world or performance settings.
