There are two supported ways to host a Path of Titans community server in 2026: run the server software on a dedicated Windows or Linux machine, or rent a managed game-server plan from a provider. Self-hosting gives you more direct control but makes you responsible for installation, networking, updates and operations. A provider removes the need to maintain your own dedicated machine, but its panel, slot limits and configuration rules apply.
You need a full copy of Path of Titans to host, and every community server must follow Alderon Games’ Terms of Service and Server Hosting Agreement. Decide which route fits your technical time and the controls your community needs before you buy hardware or a hosting plan.

Choose self-hosting or a managed provider
Alderon’s Community Servers FAQ identifies self-hosting and game-server providers as the two routes. Neither route is automatically better; the practical difference is who operates the machine and network.

If you want the least infrastructure work, start with a provider. If you need file-level control or settings a provider does not expose, self-hosting is the more flexible route. Check the current controls before committing to either option.

What you need before setup
- A full Path of Titans copy: Alderon says a complete copy of the game is required to host a community server.
- Permission to operate a community server: Read and follow the current Terms of Service and Server Hosting Agreement.
- For self-hosting: A dedicated Windows or Linux machine that can remain online for the times your players need it. Alderon does not publish a universal CPU, memory, storage, bandwidth or player-capacity specification in the cited hosting guidance, so do not buy hardware from an invented minimum.
- For a provider: An account with the provider, a selected region and slot/term combination, and the hosting token required by its onboarding process.
- Operational decisions: A server name, rules, message of the day, administrator roles, moderation process, mod policy and backup plan.
A dedicated computer can be useful for self-hosting, but verify current server software requirements and your expected player load before purchasing one. Requirements can change with a server release, operating-system update or mod collection.
Self-hosting on Windows or Linux
The maintained Path of Titans Hosting Wiki setup guide contains the Windows and Linux procedures. Use that page for the current branch, download locations and command syntax rather than copying an old command sequence into a permanent checklist.
Windows workflow
The Windows guide’s flow is:
- Download Alderon’s command-line server tool from the current setup instructions.
- Create a dedicated folder for the server files and give the account that runs the service access to it.
- Build an update script so the server software can be installed or updated consistently instead of being replaced by ad-hoc downloads.
- Run the tool to install or update the server, then complete the configuration described in the wiki overview.
- Arrange the machine’s network access and port forwarding as required by the current server documentation and your router. The exact ports and launch arguments are version-sensitive; use the live guide.
Keep the server folder separate from personal game files. Record the update script, configuration changes and administrator accounts so another trusted operator can recover the service.
Linux workflow
The Linux instructions provide a command-line installation path and note testing on Ubuntu 22.04. They are not a promise that every distribution or future Ubuntu release behaves identically.
- Prepare a dedicated Linux account and server directory rather than running the service as an unrestricted everyday user.
- Follow the wiki’s current package, download and installation commands for the supported server tool.
- Use the update procedure supplied by the guide, and retain a copy of your configuration before replacing server files.
- Configure the service to start and stop cleanly on the operating system you selected.
- Set up firewall and router forwarding according to the current Path of Titans documentation and your network provider.
The wiki labels its setup material as non-exhaustive. Treat it as the maintained starting point, then check the current server release notes when an update changes a command, directory or setting.

Network and availability checks
- Give the server machine a stable local network address so router forwarding does not silently point at another device.
- Allow the server process through the operating system firewall only as broadly as necessary.
- Test from a connection outside your home network; a local connection can succeed even when internet players cannot reach the server.
- Document the router rule, external address or hostname, launch command and rollback procedure.
- Expect home-network interruptions, changing public addresses and device reboots to affect availability. A managed provider shifts those infrastructure concerns to its service, but does not remove the need to monitor the instance.
Set up a managed server
A managed host is the faster path when you do not want to run a dedicated Windows or Linux machine. The exact panel changes over time, so use the provider’s current labels. Nitrado’s published onboarding describes a hosting-token step.
For a managed Path of Titans option, Godlike.Host lists Path of Titans servers with a Pterodactyl-based game panel, free DDoS protection and up to three free backups a day with restore; check the current plan and region before ordering. Not on Alderon Games’ list of Path of Titans server providers (alderongames.com, 11 Oct 2026).

- Open Alderon’s current hosting-token page from the account area and generate a token for the server you intend to run.
- Open the Path of Titans instance in the Nitrado interface and paste the token into the hosting-token field.
- Save the configuration.
- Restart the server so the service reads the new credentials.
- Confirm in the panel and in Path of Titans that the community server appears, then test joining with a second account or player.
The detailed instructions are in Nitrado’s first-time configuration guide. That page is an older guide, so field names and navigation may differ in the live panel. If a token is rejected, generate a new one from Alderon rather than repeatedly editing a cached value, and confirm that you saved and restarted the correct instance.
Check the offer before paying
Nitrado’s live product page, crawled in 2026, displayed a 16-player offer and customizable packages covering 10–200 slots with terms of 3–365 days. It also advertised server administration, supported mods/plugins, shared access, support, daily backups and DDoS protection. These are provider sales-page claims and may vary by country, currency, region, promotion or product revision. Review the live details at the current Path of Titans product page before ordering.
No independent price, uptime or performance comparison establishes that one slot package will support a particular population or mod set. Compare the live recurring price, renewal terms, taxes, region, slot count, cancellation rules, backup retention and available controls.

Configure the server after installation
The wiki’s server overview treats hosting as an ongoing administration job, not a one-time launch. Work through these areas before inviting a large community.

- Choose a recognizable server name and write rules that explain behavior, chat, combat, reporting and appeals.
- Set a message of the day (MOTD) with the rules, schedule, contact method and any mod disclosure.
- Decide whether a password is appropriate. A password can support a private group but adds distribution and rotation work.
- Publish a moderation contact and define what evidence an administrator needs before taking action.
Roles and administrators
Assign only the permissions each operator needs. Keep an owner-level account separate from routine moderation, record who has access and remove former staff promptly. Test an administrator command with a non-owner account before the public launch so an accidental permission change does not affect every player.
Discord webhooks and in-game reports
The wiki lists optional Discord webhooks and in-game reports. Use them only after deciding who will read alerts, how long reports are retained and how a player can appeal. A webhook that nobody monitors creates an expectation of support without actual coverage.
Mods
Install only mods compatible with the current server version and disclose them in the MOTD or community rules. Add one change at a time, restart and test before adding another. Keep a known-good configuration so you can remove a broken mod without deleting the whole server.
Backups and updates
Back up configuration and any community data before a server update or mod change. A provider may advertise daily backups, but verify retention, restore scope and whether mods and configuration are included. A self-hosted operator must arrange and test backups independently; a file that has never been restored is not a recovery plan.

Edit configuration safely
Nitrado’s configuration documentation identifies this file path:
pathoftitans/PathOfTitans/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/Game.iniIts documented section is:
[/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameSession]Put one setting on each line beneath the appropriate section. The guide discusses options involving the server name, password, chat, fish and water. It also states that MaxPlayers cannot be adjusted through Nitrado and is available only for self-hosted servers.
- Stop the server completely. Do not edit a live file while the process can overwrite it.
- Open the provider’s file manager or your self-hosted file path. Confirm that you are editing the active instance, not a backup or template.
- Make a copy of the existing file. Give it a date and a short description of the change.
- Edit the section and keep one option per line. Preserve the spelling and syntax shown in the current documentation.
- Save the file, start the server and test. If the setting does not appear, stop again and check the section header, spelling and active instance.
Nitrado’s guide was published around 2022, so verify every option and path against the present server version and provider panel. A setting documented for an older build can be ignored, renamed or moved.

Pre-launch checklist
- Server appears in the intended region and has the intended name.
- Rules and MOTD are visible and readable.
- At least two administrator roles have been tested.
- Password behavior, if used, works for a new player.
- Mods load on a clean test and are listed for players.
- Discord reports or webhooks reach an actively monitored channel, if enabled.
- Configuration backup and restore instructions are available to another trusted operator.
- At least one player has tested joining from outside the host machine’s local network.
Routine operating cycle
- Check the server status and player reports at the start of each session.
- Review logs or provider alerts for crashes, failed starts and repeated connection errors.
- Schedule updates during a quiet window and announce downtime in advance.
- Back up configuration before changing rules, mods or permissions.
- After an update, test joining, administrator access, mods and the key settings players rely on.
- Keep a short change log so you can identify which update caused a regression.
Troubleshoot the common failure points
The server does not appear in the list
Confirm that the process is running, the hosting token is valid for the selected instance, and the machine or provider region is online. For self-hosting, test the router forwarding and firewall from an external connection. For a provider, check its status page and instance console before changing files.

A configuration change has no effect
Stop the server before editing, verify the exact active path and section header, keep each setting on its own line, save, and restart. Check whether the setting is provider-restricted; MaxPlayers, for example, is not exposed through Nitrado according to its guide. Then compare the option with the current server-version documentation rather than an older copy.

Players disconnect after a mod or update
Revert to the last known-good configuration, remove the newest mod or update change, and test with a clean client. Add changes individually so the incompatible component is identifiable. Do not assume a provider’s supported-mod label means every mod combination is compatible with the current server build.
Administrators cannot moderate reliably
Check role assignment, remove stale accounts, test a lower-privilege role and ensure reports are routed to someone who is online. Keep owner credentials out of public chat and community screenshots.
What changed in 2026—and what is not yet guaranteed
In its May 2026 developer blog, Alderon described self-hosting at that time as requiring server software, a dedicated machine and port forwarding. The post also described work on self-hosting improvements and NAT punch-through, including a longer-term goal of making it easier for a player to start a game and invite friends across platforms. Alderon wrote: “With server self-hosting and NAT punch-through we are hoping to make server hosting much more accessible.” Read the update at the May 2026 developer blog.
That wording describes work in progress and a goal; it does not prove that invite-based hosting or NAT punch-through is available in October 2026. Before changing your architecture, check a current release note or in-game documentation. The same post warned that device load could limit hosting on weaker devices, which is another reason not to infer a safe player count from a generic computer specification.
Which route should you use?
- Choose self-hosting when: you already have a suitable dedicated Windows or Linux machine, can manage router and firewall settings, want direct file access, and accept responsibility for updates, backups and uptime.
- Choose a managed provider when: you want a quicker launch, do not want to expose or maintain a home machine, need a provider panel and support, or prefer advertised backup and DDoS features over infrastructure control.
- Delay the purchase when: your decision depends on a specific player capacity or hardware minimum that the current authoritative documentation does not state. Start with a small test, measure your actual workload and expand only when the live software and provider controls support it.
For either route, begin with a private test server, document the configuration, and invite the wider community only after joining, moderation and recovery have all been tested.
